ForeverMissed

My soulmate, my rock, the love of  my life, Kelly Jean Maguire, went to be with our Lord on August 20 2021 here in Arlington VA.  On March 27, 2021 we learned that the cancer he had been fighting since July of 2020 had metastasized and spread.   He fought hard and bravely.    Kelly touched the lives of all he met and he will be forever missed.

Kelly did not want a service, so in lieu of services we will be having a Celebration of Life/Memorial and final "E&C" meeting (his co-workers will understand this)  on September 25, 2021 here in Arlington, VA from 3pm-7pm at the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Banquet Hall.

If you have pictures, videos, or stories to share about Kelly, please feel free to add them to this site.

Kelly's Favorite Bible Verses:

  • Romans 8:17-"Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory."
  • Psalms 34:19 - The righteous person may have many troubles (and afflictions), but the Lord delivers him from them all.

Kelly and I worked together at DRT Strategies. I appreciated his wise counsel early in my career. He was talented in his work and made an effort to help others. I'm lucky for the opportunity to know him, he made the world better for those around him.

Kelly was my dear friend and collaborator. At Fox Harbor he helped me really enjoy being away, fishing, sitting by the fire talking about every subject, enjoying food and beer--I am cherishing these memories. Kelly helped create new ways of envisioning the church, leading council retreats, developing our online connectivity and presence--he was our unpaid IT department. Singing in the choir was a lot more fun when he was there. His fear of flying monkeys played a role in our friendships too--I remember him telling the story of the RCI encounter. Kelly made a difference in all the places he worked and prayed and played. He loved being able to help figure out sticky problems for others--he had a hard time keeping his office door closed, his office window often had detailed plans in erasable marker, keeping ideas alive. His friends became my friends; his family became mine. We shared a love for all things Minnesota.
He loved his wife, and considered himself the luckiest guy in the world.
I will miss him. I wanted just one more fishing trip.

I am so sad and my heart is breaking for Kelly’s entire family.
Kelly and I met in high school where we laughed and argued, sang and played guitar together and became fast and lifelong friends.
I believe I still have his handwritten lyrics to ‘Uphill and into the Wind’ that I’ll send on to his family.
Kelly was so talented, clever and intelligent; he had the BEST sense of humor! I remember riding around in his Scout with Steve Miller Band blaring, preparing for ‘Mame!’ and, oh, all the laughter!
Life is, indeed, a banquet, Kelly. We’ll sure miss you at the table.

Love,
Jo Fredrickson

I knew Kelly from high school at Redwood Falls, MN. I got to know him mostly through the musical Guys and Dolls. We played the lead's sidekicks and had a great time playing the crowd throughout the show. Rest in peace my friend.

Kelly and I met when he was business manager at Tetra Tech in Rosslyn. He was such a wonderful manager and so supportive. We remained friends after we left that company. Kelly shared his fun perspective on life through his FB postings and he provided a reference for me when I was job hunting. I was so sad when I heard of his passing! Such a great person!

Kat - I just heard you lost Kelly. I am so terribly sorry. I am sure that nothing can bring you comfort right now except for perhaps time to pass and thinking of the wonderful memories you have of him. I did not know Kelly that well but it was obvious that he was a very kind soul and was a wonderful husband and father. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Kelly was very welcoming as I entered my new job around two years ago. He always had a smile on his face and was always happy and willing to help me with anything. His radiance and impact he had on many people like myself will not be forgotten. My deepest condolences to the Maguire family.

I met Kelly just a few years ago through our work with a mutual client. Instantly recognized Kelly as an intelligent, genuine, funny, selfless, and all-around great guy. In our business, that is a rarity. In meetings he was not a part of, when his name came up, instantly people would comment 'great guy.' It was just impossible not to say it. Kelly was more than likeable - he was uniquely relatable. He had mastered a balance between confidence and humbleness. I respected his attitude and demeanor so damn much. And I had no idea about the cowboy apparel and aviation - just makes him that much cooler. I'll miss the guy but feel lucky to have known him. My condolences to his family; Kelly was clearly amazing.

My most sincere condolences to the Maguire family. I had the pleasure of working with Kelly at USDA. I admired his character and integrity, he was an incredibly talented leader, and of course I loved his sense of humor. He was very charismatic and an expert in managing relationships - he always left people better than he found them. He had an impeccable ability to build teams, he perfected the recipe, we all had a bond beyond work or a job. He was a family man and anytime we were around him and Kathy - it was evident how much they loved each other and their family. Kelly will be missed, if there is anything the family needs please reach out. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Very sad news. I met Kelly many years ago while working in Las Vegas. He was a friend and I always admired his knowledge and wisdom. We were not close friends but friends. I had a change to work with him for a brief time and my respect for him grew even more. He added to my life and I’m grateful to have known him. God’s Speed Kelly.

I am so sorry to hear of Kelly’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with him at RMI in Las Vegas. I enjoyed playing pranks on him. He shared with me how much he hated the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz. From there it was “on and crack in’”. Me and a few folks came up with the best pranks! We always had a lot of fun. It was truly a pleasure to have known him. I know his wife and kids will have many stories to share throughout the years to keep his memory alive! I hope as you share those stories, the tears will turn to a smile. Much love to the family.

I met Kelly in 2015 where we started working at DRT around the same time. He was always friendly and had a smile on his face. I will always remember him with his Cowboy hat and cowboy boots walking down the loooong halls at USDA. After leaving the company and coming back 3 years later, he still remembered me and still had that same smile, still walking down the halls of USDA with his cowboy hat and boots. He was by far one of the greatest, kind, and genuine people I ever met in my life. Rest in Peace Kelly, my God bless your family, friends, and former co-workers and bring them comfort. We will miss you.

Kelly was a great guy to me and very passionate/sincere. He truly loved his family and would constantly brag about his son's accomplishments to me. Our banter over the love of football especially his Vikings and Baylor Bears teams. He would always send me texts and jokes during fall season. Last we spoke was during FB season lol. He will be truly missed and one of my favorite colleagues ever. He was very impactful in my growth as a professional and leader. God bless his wife and son during this time.

I have never met a more accomplished person in my life. From flying airplanes and fishing to cooking and training dogs, and that’s just to start. He was naturally funny and thoroughly enjoyed having a beer and a cigar on the porch. He loved the Vikings and was so proud to be a Baylor alum. He loved his country but Mr. Maguire loved his family so much more. He would sit with Dublin (the dog) for hours on the couch and play with her in the backyard. He loved sharing his passions with his son and sharing stories with anyone who would *actively* listen. He was a man that demanded respect only by walking into a room, maybe it was the cowboy hat or the fact that you knew he was smarter than you without ever exchanging a word. Notably, Mr. Maguire was never afraid of showing Mrs. Maguire how much he loved her. From the license plate on his truck to the quiet moments when he would drape his arm over her shoulders while watching a movie. It was beautiful. He was a man of many interests but Mrs. Maguire was his biggest. He was and still is an inspiration. The world has lost quite a gem.

Kelly and I were very close friends when working at RMI. We would often have lunch together at Town Square and have a beer after work. He was always insightful, funny, positive, energetic, and caring. I learned a lot from him and will always appreciate the mentorship and coaching he gave me. The last time I saw him was a trip he had with co-workers here to Seattle and I was able to host them and take them around. It was a lot of fun. He was the eternal optimist and full of life. I can still hear his laugh and loved his debates on all topics! He had an impact and left an imprint. I am so sad to hear this. Sending love and light.

I want to share with you the Kelly I knew. Kelly truly loved his wife Kathy and his children. Very much a family man! He enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods, flying his airplane, listening to music, playing guitar and singing. He also enjoyed going to a Vikings game each year, drinking wine specialty beers and smoking a cigar. He was a very intelligent and hard-working man anytime you had a computer issue he could fix the problem. He had a great sense of humor and was quick-witted. He always had a twinkle in his eyes. A true Irishman! He will be greatly missed by so many. Soar with the angels Kelly Jean! Hug your sister Kathy from all of us!
