Fond Memories

November 20, 2017

Will and I have many fond memories of Kelly.  We both loved working with Kelly while we were at Johnson! He always made the time pass quickly at work with his lively spirit. Will recalls many theological talks with Kelly. He also remembers how patient Kelly was with him as they made repairs all over campus. The time he took to teach Will how to repair his car was also one of Will's best memories. Kelly could have just done the repair but it was important to Kelly that he could teach Will how to fix it so he would know in the future. I, Jess, remember how much Kelly thoroughly enjoyed life. I loved Kelly's ability to push the envelope and to explore new topics. He was always ready for an adventure.

We both enjoyed spending time with Kelly and Wendy as a couple. These two have had a huge impact on our lives as a couple. They mentored us before we were married, and tried to teach Will and I to love each other unconditionally, and to show Christ in our relationship. They helped to set a good example for us in how to talk with each other and how to treat each other with a mutual respect and trust that we still strive to maintain today. Wendy and Kelly always made time for us! They were and still are our family. We love you both.

Kelly, you will truly be missed but we know for sure that you are living it up in Heaven as we speak. Here's to you, Kelly, and the great guy you were to all of us. You truly showed us what it was like to walk with Christ.

With Love,

Will and Jess Smith

So honored to have Kelly read 1 Corinthians 13 4-8 at our wedding, no one better to share such a passage on Love.  Thank you Kelly, we love you.

John's smile

November 14, 2017

Not a lot of people can get John to even have his picture taken, yet alone be smiling in it.  This picture was taken at our house when Kelly and Wendy were back in Grand Haven for a visit.  It was so good to see them after they had moved to Tennessee!!

Forever Grateful

November 14, 2017

I am so thankful for these wonderful, beautiful memories of a wonderful and beautiful man. He was more than just a step-dad, he completed our family. He forged through the walls we had built as a house of 3 women, bonded tight by pain and necessity.
He completed our family in a way we didn’t anticipate, and it was natural - as though he had always been there.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you for the late night theological conversations and for never judging my lack of belief. Thank you for spending a week with me after Beckett was born, and always championing the small successes of a new mother (Yay! You showered today!)
Thank you for marrying me and Brian..I am forever grateful for those memories. Thank you for the Paul Simon lyrics you put into our wedding ceremony, as a wink and nod.
Thank you for loving us through our good, our bad, and our ugly.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I have to many things to thank you for. The list that's been running through my mind goes on and on, without an end. Thank you for being proud of me, no matter how many times I messed up and thought I let you down. You constantly reinforced that it was impossible to let you down, that you were proud of me regardless of my faults and failings. You showed me this in not only your words, but your actions. You exuded unconditional love. I will never have the words to be able to thank you for everything you have taught me.

You completed our family. We do not know how to do this life without you. I am heartbroken, and forever indebted to you. I know that you would hate how much we hurt, and we will try to be strong. We will take care of Mom.

Until we meet again..
Love,
Lyn
