Dear Margie and girls, so sorry to learn of Ken's death. Condolences to all of
you. I remember Ken from attending gatherings of the dialysis group from back in the 60s-70s at your home. He was always welcoming. Margie, I did not know you had relocated to Vermont to be near the girls and grandchildren. I have been retired for 10 years. Jim and I still are in our home on Lake Mcbride with the help of our 3 children and 9 grandchildren. We winter in Arizona. Best wishes to all of you. Gloria Bulechek

Sorry to hear of Ken's passing. My contact with Margie and Ken was minimal, but if memory served they used to live next door to us when I was small. Then they moved to the "mosquito flats" area of Iowa City and I babysat for the girls one nite. We had Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on the stereo. Over the years I ran into both of them periodically, mostly Margie. Sweet and motivated people. All should be proud and he will be missed. Take care.

Fred was my math teacher at Prairie - he was definitely one of my favorite teachers of all time. It was such a joy to be in his class - he made learning fun. He also tutored me for my statistics class at UI, making it so much easier to understand than my college prof. I loved his infectious laugh and great humor! I also remember how he loved to play on words “do you itch a scratch, or scratch an itch”. Fred will live on in my memory. RIP! It is impossible to think of my time at Prairie High School without thinking of Fred. His infectious laugh and mischievous smile. His wicked intelligence and his grand stories. And his deep and genuine love for his students and teaching. As a student I not only learned while sitting in his class but I learned from the conversations with Fred during free periods and after school. He could have used the time to prep for his class but he always gave the time to us...his students. I was lucky to have many impactful teachers in my life and Fred was one of the best. 

I remember playing numerous card games of Golf..we always had such fun even though I am sure you cheated. So much fun meeting you and Margie in Hawaii many numerous times every winter..the four of us(me, my sister ,Margie and you). We shared lots of laughter and you were always the ambitious one in the group.. tennis walking and swimming. Ken you will be missed but always remembered with a smile and love

I am very sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I fondly remember our time coaching Girls T-Ball together in the 70's.

I HAVE SO MAY FUN MEMORIES OF YOUR JOKES, CARD GAMES, HAWAII VISITS AND LAUGHTER. THE TRIPS TO HAWAII WITH MY SISTER KATHY AND RUNNING AROUND WITH YOU AND MARGIE WERE SO MUCH FUN.I CAN SEE YOU NOW PLAYING TENNIS IN A PLACE FAR BETTER. YOU WERE VERY SPECIAL TO US.

So sorry to read in today's paper of Ken's passing. Ken was an active supporter of the Military Affairs Association and active in the Iowa City community. He also ran for County Supervisor as a Republican in a very heavily Democratic county, but it did not dissuade him. 

We will miss him. My condolences to his family. Thanks for sharing him with us.

I remember one day they announced that the next day we were having an ugly tie contest. Fred was gone that day so he was unaware that there would be a contest the next day. He came to work the next day dressed as only he could and won the ugly tie contest hands down. He was an absolutely awesome teacher to cared deeply about his students. Some of my fondest memories in high school were because of him. He will be missed.

‘Fred’ always cared deeply about his students really learning math. He was one of my favorite teachers. Before anyone had computers, he allowed some of his students to ‘program’ one in his office. A key influence on the major I pursued in college. He surely has left his mark in many many people. RIP and prayers to the family.

I truly believe that "Fred's" wish to leave smiles behind in his remembrances have been answered! What a fun and nurturing teacher he was. Someone who always seemed to genuinely enjoy his students! He knew how to make what could have been complicated lessons fun to learn and inspire those around him to enjoy life. Was always fascinated by the hydroponic tomatoes too! A life well lived and we appreciate him for it!! 1976 Prairie graduate from his advanced math classes and fun potlucks!! Diane Buresh Reist.
