The Early Years

January 13, 2014

Kenneth Camp was born on June 8th 1927 in Derby to proud parents... William Camp & Annie Louise Camp. Before him was born his brother Arnold & sisters Olive, Ivy, Dorothy, Freda & Hazel. Dad thinks he was born in Alvaston but he was not sure...if any family read this could you please let me know where & what time he was born so i can add it on here. Thanks.

As dad was growing up, he said it was great being able to play on the street near his home as there was not as many cars on the street as there are nowadays...being the youngest boy... his older brother Arnold & his 5 sisters adored him & they took him under there wing & he used to go everywhere with them...his sisters used to call him " Our Kenny"...

Dad used to play Football, Cricket...alot of board games & cards as they never had a tv...He used to love playing & running around with his mates..one time Dad told me when he was out him & his mates used to tie string across to each other's houses as they were terraced houses then & only a thin street in the middle of the houses across the road, then they used to knock on the neighbors doors, wait for them to answer & run away so no one could see it was them who had tied string as when one door was opened the other door shut & they were all laughing ...you can just imagine that happening can't you....funny.

Dad used to go to the Roller Rink on Ashbourne Road with Ivy & Hazel... Ivy , dot & freda used to go dancing on roller skates & dad was amazed at how well they all did......

Dads Dad William Camp was in the 1st world war, he was a Seargent in the Sherwood Forresters...He was injured & came home as he had half his head blown away, but survived. Before he went in the army he was a watchmen in the building trades...He died aged 65 never really recovering after his head injury.

Dads Mum Annie Louise Camp formerly Annie Louise Disney never worked...as she was too busy looking after all 7 Children...Annie had a good life & she died aged 93.
