Honoring Kenneth Anderson

October 22, 2016

Ken was born on April 27, 1936 in New Haven CT to Margaret (Schulzberg) Anderson and Kenneth Theodore Anderson, and graduated magna cum laude from Gettsyburg College in 1958 (Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Kappa Epsilon), and from Cornell Law School in 1961.

A passionate advocate for social and economic justice, as an attorney Ken Anderson worked on some of the landmark antitrust cases of the last half century, including as Chief of the Special Regulated Industries Section of the Antitrust Division, where he served for three years as the chief government trial counsel in U.S. v. AT&T, a case which resulted in the deregulation of the phone industry.

Ken approached life as a moveable feast, raising a family on a 36 acre farm in Virginia before moving to Baltimore and then TriBeCa as his wife Patricia realized her lifelong dream of becoming an artist, receiving a BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from The New York Academy of Figurative Art. His love of the water led the family to Dewey Beach every year, and he spent his later years living on the Baltimore waterfront, where he could often be spotted rowing his skiff amidst the water taxis and tankers.

Ken is predeceased by his niece Margot Ann Anderson (2012) and is survived by his brother Richard Anderson (Barbara Anderson); his wife Patricia Marsh Anderson, his children Karin Anderson Ponzer (Howard Ponzer) of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, Erik Anderson (Christine Djuric) of Baltimore, Maryland and Nils Folke Anderson (Alexandra Posen) of Brooklyn, New York, and his grandchildren Katherine, Erika, Cyrus, Bjorn, Celeste and Ava.

A memorial celebration will be held in Ken's honor in Baltimore in 2017. For more information please contact: kcamemorial@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's name may be made to The Cooper Union.
