His Life

Greatest Man

April 6, 2011

There is not a moment of my childhood that my Father doesn't come to mind. He was the greatest man that has ever lived! He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Son, Papaw, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He would do everything he could to help someone out. I know that the day the Lord took him from us...the Lord took our hearts!

Before becoming disabled, he drove a school bus for preschool children. They called him Mr. Chick. He loved all children. He enjoyed this work so much and hated to leave it, but his health was taking a turn for the worst. After this, because of his love for children and his family, he spent most of his time with his grandkids...Wyman, Sugarbelly, Twirly-Girl, Leeman and Sherry-Terry...as Dad would call them. (He loved giving them nicknames.)

For most of his life he was a musician, playing in several bands...Southern Crossfire Band, Zephyr and the latest Signal 60. He was the lead vocalist and did a mighty fine job of it, if I say so myself. (What I wouldn't give to hear him sing to me one more time.) Music was in his blood, it was his life...after his family, of course. "A day without music isn't worth living," is what he used to say to me. Now I know he is up in Heaven with God's Angels singing until his heart's content. For this reason, we had inscribed on his headstone..."Peace, Love and Music."

The end came too fast. How does one prepare themselves for the loss of a man this great? It just isn't possible. He grew tired of fighting illnesses for most of his life and decided that it was time to go home to the Lord.

This doesn't begin to describe the man my father was and still is. He is greatly missed. My heart, as many members of family, will never be whole again...not as long as my Daddy isn't here with me.
