WHEN MY MOTHER FELL UNDER HER CARPORT AND HAD TO BE TRANSPORTED BY HELICOPTER TO COLUMBIA BECAUSE SHE HAD A BRAIN INJURY, KENNY AND I WERE SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE HOSPITAL AND WE WATCHED A HELICOPTER LAND.  KENNY RECONIZED THE TWO ATTENDENTS AS BEING THE ONES WHO FLEW MY MOTHER THERE.  HE ASK IF HE COULD TAKE A PICTURE WITH THEM.  THEY COMPLIED. THEY LET HIM SIT IN THE HELICOPTER AND THEY TOOK HIS PICTURE.  THAT IS THE PHOTO ON THIS TRIBUTE AND THE PICTURE OF THE HELICOPTER THAT FLEW MY MOTHER TO COLUMBIA.

I HAVE A STORY TO SHARE ABOUT KENNY.  MY SISTER DONNA HAD A MOBILE HOME AT THE BEACH.  KENNY AND I WOULD GO THERE AND STAY ON THE WEEKENDS.  HE ALWAYS GOT UP BY 6:00AM EVERY MORNING.  WE WERE AT THE BEACH AND HE OPENED THE DOOR AND SAW COPS SURROUNDED IN THE NEXT MOBILE HOME.  ONE COP SAW KENNY AND PUT HIS FINGER UP TO HIS LIPS TELLING HIM TO BE QUIET.  KENNY SHOOK HIS HEAD AND CLOSED THE DOOR.  WE NEVER FOUND OUT WHY THE COPS WERE THERE, BUT THE MAN WAS IN HANDCUFFS WHEN KENNY LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW.

I HAVE MANY STORIES TO TELL ABOUT KENNY, BUT MOST OF THEM ARE TOO PERSONAL TO SHARE, SO I'LL KEEP THEM TO MYSELF FOR NOW.

Driving with Uncle Kenny

August 28, 2012

When I got my license Uncle Kenny would let me drive the red van "Mexican Van" to take him places and to just drive to the river or to my friends house. When I would drive him around, we'd go to Bi-Lo, his house, and the auto part stores in Kingstree.

The first time that I "Almost" got in a wreck was with Uncle Kenny. We were going to his house and I went to turn at the redlight near Mcdonald's another car pulled out from the road near Hardee's hauling tail and almost ran in to me. Well instead of Uncle Kenny fussing at me he told me that I didnt do anything wrong and that it was the other car...thankfully we didnt get hit or anything. He called the driver of the other car some names, but his "roadrage" wasnt nowhere near as bad as the other Wilkes' lol.

Other times I drove with Uncle Kenny He taught me so many things about driving. He'd sit in the passanger seat and tell me exactly what to do and if I didnt listen and do what he said he'd get annoyed with me, but he never gave up on teaching me how to drive and how to tell when something was wrong with the vehicle I was driving.

Uncle Kenny always had music playing...even when he was sleeping! Before we would go anywhere in the van he would have to put the faceplate on the cd player and turning up some Tom Petty, John Melloncamp, or ACDC. Because of this, everytime I get in a vehicle to drive I have to have some kind of music on.

Uncle Kenny taught me allot about driving...and if it wasnt for him I wouldnt be the halfway decent driver with a clean driving record like I am!

Thank you Uncle Kenny, for all you have taught me. I hope to pass everything I learned from you down to Mary-Ann!

Beating the Crowd @ Fred's Grand Opening

August 28, 2012

When Fred's first opened in Kingstree, they had a "grand opening sale" that started at 5:00 a.m.  Well, Kenny and I were going to the sale and wanted to get there early, "before the crowd".  I got up at 4:00 a.m. and called him, he was up and getting ready. Picked him up abt 4:30 a.m. and  we headed off to Fred's. There were abt 5 cars in parking lot, approximately 10 people in line waiting for them to open.  We had a good laugh at ourselves, because we thought there would be a huge crowd and we wanted to get there early.  We enjoyed our shopping trip and got a lot of bargains. I sure do miss him, and all the little things we did together that were  special, even though they may not have seemed so special at the time, they are cherished memories.  Miss you, Kenny.  Rest In Peace, my dear brother.
