A little poem:
Hearts Heavy
Hearts are heavy from the bevy
Of sad news even Covid-19
Has become part of the
‘Things common to men’
A something they can not mend
The question ‘what to do?’
Being asked by more than a few
Your loss is my loss
I feel your pain cause
I have loved too...
We must focus
On the promises of tomorrow
Of a future and a hope
There by we can and will cope
For the One who rewards
Keeps an eye on the tears cried
You know He never lies
Look back at all the facts
of the past see the evidence
it can’t be erased,
it will always last
His word never fails
So the pain now will pail
Into oblivion as a forever
Never memory. ❤️

I first met Kevin and Toni when they attended Murray Hill Congregation with my aunt, Regina Buchanan, and my cousin Candace in the early 80's. I personally appreciated how attentive, kind, and patient Kevin was with my Aunt Regina. Her husband was not in the Truth, and my aunt was not naturally outgoing, and very private. Even still, Bro. Dortch found a way to win my aunt over with his Christian qualities, loving personality, and warm smile. She became comfortable with Bro. Dortch, and was very fond of him. My mother and I knew how hard it must have been to get my aunt to open up, and really appreciated everything he did to look out for her spirituality, and how he checked on her and my cousin regularly. This is the kind of person Kevin was, and for that, my family will be forever grateful! Kevin will always have a special place in our hearts, and will be missed! Toni and Kalyn, Kip and I are very sorry for your loss.

I met Kevin when he worked for JL Stone and I worked for Michigan Bell in downtown Detroit. I would go on my lunch hour and buy suits from him. He used to call me ‘handsome’ as a nickname. But he was really the handsome one. He and Toni bought my house in Detroit from me when I moved to Missouri to serve there. There are so many memories and history. Jehovah has Kevin in his memory. So I’m looking forward to seeing that handsome guy with the great smile!

Losing Kevin; is losing a Brother. Kevin and Bob were like Brothers for 40 years (and Kevin was there for him until the end) I will miss his smile and his cool excitement for life. What Kevin would want more than anything is to know his ‘girls’ Toni and Kalyn were loved and supported. He would be happy to see how Jehovah has opened his hand and provided unending support and love for them. So now with a very broken heart; with my Little Sis Toni and my Beautiful precious Niece Kalyn I will wait for Jehovah’s voice to call. Until then Love to all those who also loved Kevin❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

When you lived in Highland Park, I recall a little young man sitting quietly in the corner with a beautiful smile. I only knew you by the name "Pest." It was later, when I came to Murray Hill, I asked your real name. I truly appreciate all you did for the family, your faith and endurance, and your loving concern that mere words cannot express. Be assured of our love, prayers, in your behalf and the sure hope of the Resurrection.

Dearest Toni,
I'm in pain of heart at the lose of your husband. I've known Kevin since he was about 10 years old, maybe younger. We went to the Glendale & I believe Murray Hill, or Cambridge Congregation. My mom, Sis Plata loved him very much, he had such a calming personality, and very friendly. We all look forward to the time when "the sting of death", will be no more. Much Christian love eternally my friend/sister.

Kevin (I usually called him "KD") was my fine friend, and always will be. The first time we met was in a work situation, and by the time I left that day, I knew he was a special man. Over the years that followed he helped me figure out many things and was always there to support me. Having him ask about my kids, and my family, and sharing, every time we'd see each other - made me a better man. Upon meeting Toni, it all made sense, they were made for each other. Kevin and i figured out we were born about 1 month apart. It was not a big deal talking about it with him, but it is very significant now. This world was a better place with you in it KD. Until we meet again my Brother.... Blessings!

Ricardo and I have known Kevin and Toni since 1987, while attending the Murray Hill congregation in Detroit. They were a couple made for each other. Toni, very stylish, coordinated jewelry, and short haircut. And then there was Kevin. He was "GQ" long before the magazine became popular. Great smile, with a penchant for great combinations of: shirts, ties and pocket squares. Whatever the occasion, Kevin did not disappoint. We spent many good times together and we look so forward to welcoming him back with open arms, when he awakens from sleep. Stay strong Toni, we are all with you during this painful time. Just take comfort in knowing that you and Kalyn are loved by all who know you. Philia, Rick, Pat & Siyani

We will miss Kevin’s smiles and encouraging talks at assemblies and conventions. Upon seeing him, we were always greeted with a warm and sincere ,”How are you”.
As parents of two sons, who grew up at Murray Hill with Kevin, we are so grateful for the example he set as a ministerial servant, elder and friend. He humbly and willingly extended a listening ear in times of need. We are so grateful to have had the privilege to serve Jehovah with Kevin . We look forward to seeing Kevin’s “welcoming” smile in the new world, where suffering and death will be no more.

Toni,
During this time, I think of how Kevin is just taking a nap...and soon, He Will Call, Jehovah will awaken him and he'll see your smiling face and Kalyn. Just imagine yourself hearing of ones that have been resurrected and you hear Kevin calling you. Picture yourself there, because it's almost here. Don't give up, we are a day closer, an hour closer, a minute closer. I'm looking forward to seeing you all there in the New World. Hold on, it's just around the corner. Love you always, Cheryl Paschal

My dear Brother, will be missed by all. When I first came to Murry Hill I was a little scared of Bro. Dortch , he was always so serious. But the more I knew him the more he became a friend. Out in service or at a gathering, he had a very friendly smile and demeanor. Rest in Jehovah's love your beautiful wife and daughter will miss you dearly, as well as your multitude of family and friends.

I remember meeting Kevin for the first time while we worked at J.L. Stone together as teenagers! He was always kind to this unseasoned brewster project boy! Very mild tempered and reasonable when I would speak to him about things! Never Judgemental! Toni, you truly married a treasure and a God fearing man! And may these thought carry you through the hard days and times!

I was introduced to Kevin and Toni 31 years ago by means of the "Keys Family" and I immediately recognized why they thought of you more like family then friends! The both of you embraced my family as though you had been knowing us for years. I especially admired your relationship as a married couple. The two of you were so in tune with one another and witnessing the love and affection displayed in your relationship was a beautiful thing to witness!  The fine example that you all set as a " Christian" married couple made me think that if I ever get married this is the type of relationship that I want to have with my husband.  When I did get engaged 8 years later I was so proud to introduce you to my fiance and have your approval. This picture was taken at my wedding 22 years ago and the two of you have not aged since then.  Although we cry tears of sadness now I look forward to the tears of joy when we welcome Kevin back in the "New World" and I look forward to making more memories with the two of you! We love you Toni ❤️❤️❤️
