Kevin Charles Owen
July 29, 1971 - January 4, 2021
Kevin was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to loving parents Mitzi and Charles Owen. Kevin died on January 4, 2021, due to complications from cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Owen and his grandparents.
After graduating from Vestavia Hills High School, Kevin attended Auburn University and was a Sigma Chi fraternity member. Kevin lived in Auburn until he decided to follow his dreams in Chicago. A gifted writer and performer, Kevin became a part of Second City, working with both the improv and musical sketch groups. He was known for creating humorous yet compelling scenarios and understanding and developing complex characterizations.
Upon returning to Birmingham, Kevin reunited with friends that shared his love of sports, including his devotion to Auburn football, the New York Yankees, the Pittsburg Steelers, and Liverpool F.C. Friends and family will most remember Kevin for his kind and compassionate nature as well as his wonderful sense of humor.
Kevin worked for Bob Singleton at My Pet’s Vet in Birmingham as the Corporate Facilities Manager and enjoyed the entire staff that was so kind and supportive. The Kevin Owen Foundation has been set up to honor his memory due to Kevin's love for and devotion to animals.
The Foundation's goal is to care for rescued animals until the pets are adopted into their forever homes. If friends would like to honor Kevin with a memorial, it may be done through the kevinowenfoundation.com.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Mitzi Proffitt Owen, his sister Debra Owen Ball (Chris), his niece Payton Riley, his nephew Owen Riley, his uncle Rick Proffitt, his cousin Luke Proffitt, and Olivia and Carson Ball.
The family wishes to thank Kevin's nurses, doctors, and support staff at Shelby Baptist Medical Center for the excellent care that Kevin received, along with their concern and kindness.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Friday, January 8th at Noon with the Reverend John Ray officiating.
