We, her colleagues and friends at IHG, have created this site in memory of Kim Hucker, and as a way for our work colleagues to share stories and messages about Kim with her family and friends.
Kim was the beloved wife of Alf, loving mother and mother in law of Sian and Jabin, Erin and Ryan. Kim was also the cherished Mim to Archie, Asher and Clae, the adored daughter of HJ and Ron (deceased), and a fond sister to Michele and Lisa.
Kim brought an unsurpassed energy and compassion to every situation and person she met, and a wonderful care to all those who had the privilege to know her.
Kim was an integral part of the IHG family for over 25 years beginning her career at Crowne Plaza Terrigal on the front desk, moving into food and beverage and conference sales and then as Executive Assistant to the General Manager in 2001.
In 2006 Kim moved back to Sydney with her husband Alf and became Executive Assistant to the General Manager at InterContinental Sydney. During her seven eventful years at the hotel, Kim supported three General Managers, prior to joining the Sydney head office as the Executive Assistant to Bill and George and transitioning to supporting Karin in January 2015.
In all her roles, Kim was in many ways the quiet achiever who thrived on supporting others. Her unwavering loyalty to people around her was inspiring to us all. Naturally vivacious, she was armed with a healthy sense of humour to be able to tackle any unforeseen hotel dramas or stressed out executive......and over her 25 years she would no doubt have experienced many!
Kim brought colour and light, fun and laughter into work. We were all blessed to be welcomed by her beautiful smile and joyful spirit every morning.
Kim will be fondly remembered forever as an amazing lady who made our lives a little richer every day.
Our deepest sympathies and support are with Kim’s family.
Hello
It is with such a heavey heart that I wrote about Kiiiiiiimmmmmmmmm, as Mr Rey used to yell from his office. Kim would roll hers eye's like here we go again, jump up, go into his office and come out without about 35 things to do, notes everywhere, she would laugh and get on with it.
I worked with her for four years, we laughed, cried, got mad at each and she constantly reminded me about what was important. To look after my wife better and buy her things. I can disctinctly remember her standing over me telling me to "do it, do it" when I was hesitant about buying Penny an above my comfort zone priced present...I pushed the yes go ahead button, too which she laughed and clapped. I am sure she then text penny to tell her she pushed me out of my comfort zone.
I could always rely on Kim to keep us from getting ahead of ourselves. We had so many strong personailities in the hotel who would each need a good kick to bring us back to earth. She was a mother figure for all of us.
After each weekend, it would be time for a catch up on the weekend events. Lynda would come up to the office and start telling us about her life with two teenage daughters, late nights, boys, going out and about as teengers do. I would look on in horror as my two princesses who were aged 6 and 8 and still very innocent from that world. Kim would be laughing saying I am all past that and Adam, look what you have to look forward to!!!!!
We lived near each other in Waterloo and would catch the bus to work, she was a great friend as well as a work colleague. Friday night would be a time for a few drinks, normally catching Alf and maybe some Chilli Crab at some Chinese places they knew on Liverpool St. Or it would be to the Clock tower or the Dolphin for a few bevies.
Her and Alf both travelled which she loved and looked forward to the next "Junkit" She would constantly to be telling us how lucky Alf was to have her in his life. By far the happiest I ever heard her was when she talked about her grand kids, over joyed and filled with pride when she spoke about them.
She was so proud of her two girls and what they were achieving. The weekends they used to have and go for a big night out with Kim normally being the last one to bed. To Erin and Sian, I am so sorry for your loss. You were so lucky to have her in your life and always know that she was just so proud of you both.
I have been away from Australia for 7 years now and would call Kim a couple of times a year to just hear her voice, get the gossip, find out who was "useless" and just get a sense of normality in her Sydney life.
I will miss her dearly, a great friend, I will forever cherish my memories of our happy times together.
Love to all - Adam, Penny, Molly and Ella XOXO
I've worked alongside Kim for the last 10 years in our varying roles. Kim has 2 girls, like I do but they are a few years ahead of mine. I've always enjoyed her insights, tips and tricks on what works as they grow up. Kim also loves holidays, like I do. But Kim takes the cake for the best ones and every year I'd hear about the plans for the next ones with Alf. Wow, they had some amazing times and she loved the planning too. I cant tell you how many conversations over lunch we've had and the joy of the arriving holiday. Interestingly, when she did take these holidays, Emily often stepped into her shoes and funny now to think the same is happening now. I've added some work photos here of my time working with Kim at InterContinental Sydney. We both arrived at the end of 2006 but Kim had been with IHG at Terrigal for a while so she got me caught up on who was who and filled me in on history. We journeyed through 3 General Managers at the hotel, each one a great person but all very different. We had some laughs as we bought them all into line and neither of us took things too seriously! I will miss her company, smile and partnership at work along with her stories and guidance on the girls. Enjoy my photos...
