This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Kim McGrady.
Kim died on Thursday, April 8, 2021. While at the beach with his family, Kim heard yelling from the ocean. Many people were caught in a rip tide. Kim was the first one in to try and save as many people as he could. While saving three people, Kim got caught in the rip tide and drowned. Kim was always one to put others before himself. Kim McGrady left this world a hero.
During his life, Kim was humble and truly a man of integrity. He always put his family first and wanted to be the best man he could for them. Even after his death he is helping others by donating his organs. Kim will be missed by all who knew him.
Kim is being cremated. Services to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_dcm=58700006942402311&sc_cid=kwp&sc_cat=b&ds_rl=1285465&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmcWDBhCOARIsALgJ2QdAHYQwyufu1JF_JC26v-U37tdIixLkcowKFsq1GbTLh0Syl-Et5RAaAmz3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Kim and I began our Chick-fil-A journey together in FRL, 13 years ago. There are too many fun memories to recount here but here are the highlights. Kim had the best sense of humor. He was the best at pulling off a practical joke and playing innocent when it came to fruition.  He never took anything too seriously, but was completely intentional when it came to his family and helping others to flourish. His memory will live on in all of us but especially Colton and Kayleigh. While I haven't spent much time with you, I do know how much your father loved you. I spent many a car ride through the Midwest, learning how to love my now son, because of our talks. I have been thinking about him and all of you this month. We miss you, Kim.

Your Chick-fil-A family misses you Kim. Was thinking about you today about a transition you helped me with. I know you are dancing to the Hamilton soundtrack and smiling ear to ear being in the Fathers presence, but we sure do miss you! Kayleigh & Colton, you have one incredible Dad whose legacy will always be a part of the CFA fabric. Leighanne, you were a big a part of his success at CFA and each of you will forever be a part of the greater CFA family. Thinking of him often and praying for you all daily.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Kim. My famiIy lived next door to him and his family when we were young. He and my brother were inseparable for many years. Lots of memories. My heart hurts for his family. I pray God helps them to find peace and comfort. They are all in my prayers.

I am heartbroken to hear the news of Kim’s passing. Kim was my next door neighbor growing up in Huntsville and my best childhood friend. Although I have not seen him in years, I am not surprised by his heroic effort. My thoughts and prayers go out to the McGrady Family.

My wife and I in Huntsville AL are devastated by this news. I hadn't seen or spoken to Kim in over 20 years, but Kim was one of my good friends from sixth grade on, and then he was my roommate for a year at Auburn before he moved into the Beta house. I've just spent a week on vacation with our other roommate and Kim's childhood friend, Gordon Sacks, and we were talking about Kim and his parents Don and Gail. Our hearts are with you at this difficult time, and we pray for comfort for all Kim's family.

We are so sad to learn the news about Kim. It was an honor to have known him. He coached Brenden on a few baseball teams and looking at photos sure brought back some wonderful memories. His strength, humbleness, and selflessness was a gift to so many that were blessed to cross his path. His heroic act to save others who needed help likely is not a surprise to anyone who spent time with Kim. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sad to hear about Kim's passing. I knew him in college at Auburn, and have many great memories of our time there together. While we lost touch after graduation, I never forgot him. I've dug up some pictures from back in the day and will post. My condolences to his entire family.

I was so sad to see this on the news. I worked with Kim years ago at Fisher Scientific. I loved when he called in to check on an order or to help one of his labs. He always made me laugh. He definitely lit up the room when he came to visit the office. Everyone knew Kim was there. Such a great guy. He will be missed. Many prayers for his family and friends.

I can't say I spent a ton of time with Kim, but over the years I felt like we had developed a friendship simply because of the care he showed every time we would run into each other at the support center. He would go out of his way to say hello and check in on you, in an incredibly genuine manner that made you feel important. Even without knowing Kim deeply, I could tell he was doing the Lord's work simply from the way he interacted with and loved on people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and dear friends - Grateful to know exactly where he is now and that he left an amazing legacy behind.

Kim was always so kind to me, going above and beyond to make me welcome in meetings with his Operators. He was friendly, collaborative, and a great partner. I always felt better after talking to him or being around him. He clearly has had a huge impact on many, and will be greatly missed!

Kim was an amazing human. There are no words to adequately describe the selflessness of Kim. It's such a testament to the impact he has made on others by reading these tributes left to him. I'm so sorry that we didn't get to spend more time with him. Uncle Don, Aunt Gail, Leigh Anne, Kayleigh, and Colton we love you. I'm so sorry we could not make it to the memorial. We have made a donation to St. Jude in Kim's honor. We are praying for you daily.

Kim was my business consultant in Columbus, OH. Kim was a rock-star at encouraging me and the other operators! I always appreciated how Kim took the time to ask about my family and my walk with the Lord. Kim and his wife were an excellent model of discipleship. Their desire to pour into young couples just shows their investment into the next generation! I echo the thoughts and sentiments of each of these posts! Kim was a hero long before his visit to Destin, FL! Kim is now face-to-face with Jesus, and he has moved into his eternal mansion, and I am confident that he received a "well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master." Leigh Anne and kids...you are his legacy, and you have been covered up in prayers from our family! May the Lord's glory reverse this tragedy into many coming to know Christ as their Savior OR believers growing more deeply in their relationship with Christ! May the Lord bless his sweet family in his absence with all of the peace and comfort of Christ! May the Holy Spirit fill your house and lives with His Presence, Comfort, and Peace.

Although I did not have a lot of interaction with Kim at Chick-fil-A, the time I did spend with him made such an impact on me. Kim interviewed me and I immediately recognized how comfortable he made me feel. Kim was skilled at being attentive, relational, and empathetic. He was a great listener, which really is the epitome of genuine care and respect. To honor Kim, I have taken his exemplary interview skills to heart and will strive to provide this type of experience not only for candidates that I interview, but for all people interactions. What a blessing for me to have met him!

It's hard to explain Kim's smile and joyfulness. Each time I was with him, I left inspired to smile more myself. He took such good care of everyone around him. He was so full of laughter, and a contagious lightheartedness. Being around Kim made everything feel "as it should be."

I pray for peace and patience for the McGrady family. Kim is such a blessing to all of us.

I met Kim over 25 years ago when I first met my husband Russ in Mobile. Russ and I will cherish our memories of Kim always. He was a great friend to all who knew him.

Kim, thank you for living life with such joy, for always smiling and laughing, for being so kind to everyone, and for shining His light in this world. We love and miss you. We know you are now in the arms of our Lord.

Leigh Anne, Kayleigh, and Colton,
We are heartbroken for you. Our deepest sympathy to you. We are praying that God covers you in strength, comfort and peace that only He can provide. Hold on to the promises of God. Please know that we are here for you. Love to all of you.

Only a special person can have a significant, positive impact on you in such a short period of time...Kim was definitely that person! We were supposed to cross travel together in March of 2020 and was not able to do so due to Covid. In November, I was so excited that we were going to be on the same team. Kim was very welcoming and always positive. We finally were able to cross travel together and I learned so much and respected a lot about Kim. A wonderful family man, a great friend and an overall special person! Kim and I were scheduled to cross travel together this week and instead it is his Memorial. Praying for peace and strength for all. May his light and legacy live on.

I had the privilege of teaching both Kayleigh and Colton at N. Atlanta Preschool in Dunwoody. I got to know Kim and Leigh Ann very well. They are such wonderful, solid, 'salt of the earth' types that they immediately became some of my favorite parents ever. Then a few years after I taught Colton, Kim was hired by CFA and my husband, Tim, worked with Kim in the NE Region and then the MidWest Region. Tim had the utmost respect for Kim. We ran into them at the Atlanta airport last August when they were taking Kayleigh to college. It was a family affair and all were going together. Our hearts are aching to the core...Kim was just an all around wonderful Godly man. He loved his kids more than anything and his pride in them was evident. And what amazing kids they are. And he adored his beautiful lovely wife, Leigh Ann. We love this family so very much. We are thankful that we will see Kim soon. Kim has received his crown of righteousness when his Heavenly Father said, "Well done my good and faithful servant". We love you Leigh Ann, Kayleigh and Colton. What an amazing husband, father you were given. The time was shorter than we thought but you will see him soon.

We first met Kim and his family in 2009 when he started coaching our 6-year-old son in Little League Baseball at Murphy Candler Park. We were so fortunate to be on five of Coach Kim’s teams. I have posted some of the photos from those fun times in the Gallery. Kim was such a great role model for the boys on and off the field. He corralled those kids, taught them, and helped them develop a love of baseball. The CFA gift cards for free shakes or sandwiches were always a hit.

Little did we know at the time that we would become lifelong friends with the McGradys. Kim’s light will continue to shine through his legacy, his children and the memories which will forever be in our hearts. Prayers for peace for his wonderful, close knit family. We love you!

My thoughts and prayers are with the McGrady family and may God comfort them during this mournful time. I was fortunate to get to know Kim first at Murphy Candler Little League while we coached in the same leagues and also while serving on the Board of Directors together for many years. A few years later we became neighbors. Kim was a genuinely nice person; he always had a big smile on his face and breath of fresh air to talk to. Nothing ever seemed to upset or rattle Kim. He was a real leader that led with his actions by serving others.
It was an honor to know Kim, he made this world a better place and with his heroic actions left this world a better place, a role model for all. God Bless Him.

What a blessing to have known this man. In a world where it often seems every man is for himself, Kim McGrady reminds us that we are not alone. He was a hero EVERY DAY of his life. One only has to read these tributes to see the impact he had on the world. His smile, kind words, and care will not be forgotten. They live on in his children, his wife, and his friends.  Leigh Ann, Colton, and Kayleigh please know your Rivers family is always here for you.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Ms. McGrady, Colton, and Kaleigh. Every time I saw Mr. McGrady he had a smile on his face and carried his positive energy throughout each person he met. He influenced many people and always put Christ first in every situation. He taught me how important it is to be involved in your faith and his positivity shined throughout the room each time he’d talk to you. He would make you feel very special, but also important as if you were the only one in the room. Mr. McGrady is a hero in my eyes and he left a legacy of what it means to put others before yourself. God bless the family and Heaven has a new angel.

Kim was my business consultant and the one that brought me into the CFA Family. He was so helpful and caring. He always made me feel like I was his only Operator. He challenged me to do my best every day. Every email and text I sent him was always answered-and that's saying something with how much work he had on his plate!

After my FRL graduation from Atlanta to Michigan, I drove straight with no overnight stop (with a 3 month old baby too). Kim was so concerned for me and asked me to let him know as soon as I got home. He gave me a big hug, prayed for me, and was like a dad with his concern and care.

Kim always cared about my personal life too. During COVID Kim and I were talking about what I was going to do for schooling. He and Leigh Ann sent me information so I could research homeschooling. Last summer, I told Kim that my family was adopting. He asked how he could pray for us.

Kim was so proud of his family and his love for them shined through in everything he said and did. I was able to meet Colton and Kayleigh when they came on trips with him to MI. Kim was so proud of his kids and I could tell how much he loved them. I loved hearing updates and seeing how each kiddo was growing in their personal life. He beamed as he talked about Leigh Ann and how she ran the the house/ship and was homeschooling them.

Kim, I miss you so much. My prayers are will your family as they grieve and grow through this new journey.

We met Kim and Leigh Anne several years back and had the honor of being in a small group with them for a year or so. Kim was just starting the interviewing process with Chick-fil-A at that time. He was so inquisitive and wanting to learn as much as he could about this company. In the group he was always so positive and had a small that would light up the room. I can still hear him saying, "DMac, how's it going?" Heartbroken over his loss. Prayers for all of us who knew him and who will see him again.

I was a team leader with Kim and a few others at Brinkmann/Eppendorf.

I echo many of the comments about Kim that have been mentioned here and express my deepest sympathies to his family.

Kim had a high level of integrity, friendliness, and love for everyone. He was intelligent, athletic, and optimistic. When I heard he had died, I could not comprehend why something like this would happen to someone who had so much more to give in this life. The future impact he would have had on other lives certainly would have been significant.

A quote I heard from Richard Petty when he was being interviewed by Graham Bensinger came to mind and provides some solace; “Don’t put a question mark where God put a period.” Kim’s memory and reflection on our friendship will be with me forever. Rest In Peace Brother...

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Kim’s family for their loss.
I had the pleasure of being Kim’s coworker at Eppendorf. He was an inspiration to all that he met. He had an incredible sense of humor and I will never forget the way he laughed. We shared many of those laughs on the golf course. I will treasure those memories.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Leigh Anne, Kayleigh, Colton and all of Kim's family and friends. Kim was more than a coworker - more than a friend even - he was someone I dearly admired and looked up to. As a husband, father, and man of faith I aspired to be as good as Kim was. Kim and I shared a bond like so many others around him because he made time for all of us. His heart and soul were full of love and compassion for God, his family, his friends, his work and his play - and we all felt it. That's why we've all come together in such a magnificent way to honor him.  I'll continue to striving to be Kim McGrady-like for the rest of my days and miss him deeply while doing so. I love you man.

I met Kim during the Summer of 2008. We'd both joined Chick-fil-A and were living in the Dolce Hotel in Peachtree City with 18 other FRL Class Members. Kim was warm, inviting and engaging. He always made a point to connect with me, ask about my day, and share an Auburn memory or two. The thing that impressed me most was how devotedly and sincerely he talked about his wife Leighanne and his children Colton and Kaleigh. He talked about the importance of family, and putting his wife and kids first, serving God and others. After 6 weeks of training Kim and Leighanne opened their home to our entire class and served a delicious home cooked meal. I remember thinking to myself "This is the kind of marriage I want, and this is the type of family I want to have". I was 24 that summer and Kim's example has stuck with me to this day. Thank you for being an incredible role model, Kim. I am forever grateful and you will be deeply missed!

Total admiration for a guy I never knew, but wish I had. John 15.13 says it right: 'Greater love has no man than this...' To take it one better... Mr. McGrady laid his life down - three times, no less - for people he never met before, as it seems. A perfect and amazing example of what Jesus did for us all. As a former lifeguard, myself - and lucky / blessed enough to survive the same rip currents before - Kim McGrady was - and still is - a TOTAL HERO and WARRIOR. Love and prayers for your family and friends. We grieve together.

I am so very sorry and shocked. I worked with Kim at Eppendorf and have so many great memories. We shared so many laughs especially while traveling to Eppendorf Germany for meetings. He might have been the only person who loved college football more than me. I would always text him or send pictures of tailgating during the season. He got a kick out of these, I am sure. While at Eppendorf and when I got sick, he stepped up and managed much of my team until I could travel again. Guess it is no surprise he passed while savings others, that is exactly who he was!

Kim's final actions are representative of the life he lived- selfless, willing to serve, and ready. Not only did he save the lives of those on the beach, but he's also encouraged me, and so many more, to also be selfless, willing to serve, and ready. I'm so grateful to have known Kim.

I am so saddened to hear about Kim's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Kim on the Midwest Region Team for several years. Kim was always so kind and friendly. He didn't wait for me to speak to him - he always greeted me first, like I was someone special. In reality, he was the special one. He was so humble, yet he always stood out, not just due to his stature, but because he was a true servant and put others first. I remember our last trip to Chicago. He was so much fun and such a gentleman, always willing to help with my bags or anything else. I am so honored that I had the opportunity to know him and work with him for awhile. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with his family, as I know they will miss him terribly. Treasure the memories!

I'm relatively new to CFA and Kim was one of the very first on staff to go out of his way to spend some time getting to know me. I always appreciated how Kim would always stop or pause what he was doing to catch-up and hear how things were going. He was always so encouraging and was always smiling and quick to make a joke. It was evident that his faith was central to who he was and that he loved life. It was truly a pleasure getting to work with him in a couple of different contexts and he will be dearly missed. Kim is leaving behind an incredible legacy of demonstrating care and always making others a priority.

Isaiah 55:12,
“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

Kim exuded joy. No matter the circumstance, Kim lived life with a smile on his face. It is hard to comprehend such a loss, but, those who knew Kim are comforted that he was welcomed into the arms of Jesus. Sending prayers to The McGrady's as they walk the journey of loss. May you be overwhelmed with precious memories and may you be filled with peace that surpasses all understanding.

Talk about a bright light with a million dollar smile...that was Kim. It was always such a positively rich experience to bump into Kim no matter if it was in the office; on a road trip; or at a swim meet. Kim McGrady is the epitome of being a Positive Energy Bus and we were all fortunate to ride on his bus over the years at Chick-fil-A. He was such a positive influence on all who came in contact with him. Kim was also others focused and he lived that out by saving others before himself. What a role model and hero for all of us. Prayers for the entire McGrady family. Come Holy Spirit.

I am devastated to learn of Kim’s passing. I met Kim at Murphey Candler, where we coached against each other. He was a great coach and easy to like. I will be praying for the love of Jesus to hold the family close and provide comfort that can only come from Him
