This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Kim McGrady.
Kim died on Thursday, April 8, 2021. While at the beach with his family, Kim heard yelling from the ocean. Many people were caught in a rip tide. Kim was the first one in to try and save as many people as he could. While saving three people, Kim got caught in the rip tide and drowned. Kim was always one to put others before himself. Kim McGrady left this world a hero.
During his life, Kim was humble and truly a man of integrity. He always put his family first and wanted to be the best man he could for them. Even after his death he is helping others by donating his organs. Kim will be missed by all who knew him.
Kim is being cremated. Services to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_dcm=58700006942402311&sc_cid=kwp&sc_cat=b&ds_rl=1285465&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmcWDBhCOARIsALgJ2QdAHYQwyufu1JF_JC26v-U37tdIixLkcowKFsq1GbTLh0Syl-Et5RAaAmz3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Dear Kim, my family is heartbroken and will miss you. We will always be there for your family. We enjoyed the many swim meets at Dynamo and Village Mill, the unplanned yet easy and enjoyable conversations in the street with the dogs in wait, and the special friendships shared by our spouses and daughters. We are grieving and sad, we pray for you and your family, God Bless.

Kim was such a sweet guy and the best person in life. He was someone I admired; he loved Leigh Anne deeply and was so proud to be the dad of Kaleigh and Colton. He was an amazing man; a genuine Christ follower, an enamored husband, a dedicated and proud father, a servant to all, and the kind of person we all want to be. My heart and prayers are with your sweet family.

Kim was a special guy - always smiling, always caring, encouraging whoever he was with, and having a huge heart for serving others. The ultimate professional with a genuinely kind and fun-loving spirit. We will miss you dearly and send our deepest condolences and prayers to LeighAnne, Kailyn, Colton, and all of the McGrady family. May his memory be ever eternal

When I think of Kimbo, I think of his smile. I think of our times in Mobile with Joel, and Russ. I think of him and Leigh Anne falling for each other and us all going to Mardi Gras balls together. I think of the Frank Sanders catch in the swamp and how happy we were. I think of Kim and Kurt becoming friends. I laugh at an ocean swim in Hilton Head! I think of Chick-fil-a interviewing this wonderful man for many months and checking his character before FINALLY hiring him then Kim telling me he planned to end his career with the company. I think of a strong Christian man who loved his family and gave to everyone. Leigh Anne, I am so sorry this has happened to you and will pray often for you and the kids knowing that God is in control.

Kim had just become my first Ops Lead. He and I shared breakfast last Thursday where I got to know Kim. I knew from the start he was selfless. All he wanted to do was ask questions about me and my family. He wanted to know it all. He cared. He talked so much about his love for the brand of Chick-fil-A and SOOO much about his love for his family.

I miss him. He was an advocate for operators and he truly was on my side. At our breakfast he mentioned that sometimes he has to pinch himself because of what he gets to do each day. He thought he was made for what he was doing, but boy was he wrong. The joy he was experiencing fails in comparison of what he is experiencing now.

McGrady family, know he adored you and spoke so highly of you. I got to hear stories of swimming, internships with Banana Slammers, and how mom can run a household.

Be blessed! And take good care!

Dear Kim;
We met many years ago in the field on one of the many grand openings for CFA we were assigned to. In 2019 I was honored to work alongside you with a food distribution for the new Detroit Market. You were selfless, supportive and had the biggest heart. I had so much fun working with you
You lead by example and set that Detroit area up for huge success. You gave me such confidence with your kind words. When I received this news, my heart sank and I am truly sad. In hearing the rest of the story, you saved lives! That is so you! Putting others first always. There are many grateful people for your heroic actions and many more that had the opportunity to even know you.
You will be missed my friend. Be at peace

To your family, lifting you in prayer during this very difficult time

Kim welcomed me into the Chick-fil-A family almost 12 years ago. He was always kind to me and asked me about my family. He truly cared about me as a person. He always reminded me in every conversation we had to keep my family the main priority in my life. I’ve always strived to do that. I will cherish the time we had last year working on the sales recovery team to get food trucks to operators during a pandemic. His love for operators and call to serve always inspired me and will continue to do so. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I’m so incredibly sorry for you loss. I can’t imagine the heart ache you are feeling.

Kim.....you and I had a some really good conversations about 16 months ago when I was in Atlanta. We talked about parenting, about the importance of being a Dad, how much we love every moment with our children. Our daughters and sons are almost the same age, in the same stage of life, and we talked about how each moment is so precious with them. We talked about our wives and how we both found saints on earth. We laughed, we got deep, we shared our faith. Your kindness always drew others in, your legacy will keep us inspired to always be kind moving forward.

God has you and will also lead your family. Until we see each other again in Heaven......

Kim was always someone who was so kind, so humble, and who lives with great integrity. He died doing what he's always done: serving others. For that, and many many other reasons I will truly miss him. I am so glad to have met him on a number of occasions and worked with him. He now certainly sits with his Savior, praising the Lord for eternity.

Kim, you will be missed. Your smile and love for people will always be what I remember about you. From my first interview with you to 6 years in at Seminar, you showed true care for me as a person, friend, & co-worker.

I look forward to celebrating eternity with you in Heaven.

Kim was one whose salvation was never in question before this last, heroic act. I can’t think of a finer or more Christ-like human I have known on this planet. Deepest condolences to Leighanne, Kayleigh, and Colton.

Kim and I began our Chick-fil-A journey together in FRL, 13 years ago. There are too many fun memories to recount here but here are the highlights. Kim had the best sense of humor. He was the best at pulling off a practical joke and playing innocent when it came to fruition.  He never took anything too seriously, but was completely intentional when it came to his family and helping others to flourish. His memory will live on in all of us but especially Colton and Kayleigh. While I haven't spent much time with you, I do know how much your father loved you. I spent many a car ride through the Midwest, learning how to love my now son, because of our talks. I have been thinking about him and all of you this month. We miss you, Kim.

Your Chick-fil-A family misses you Kim. Was thinking about you today about a transition you helped me with. I know you are dancing to the Hamilton soundtrack and smiling ear to ear being in the Fathers presence, but we sure do miss you! Kayleigh & Colton, you have one incredible Dad whose legacy will always be a part of the CFA fabric. Leighanne, you were a big a part of his success at CFA and each of you will forever be a part of the greater CFA family. Thinking of him often and praying for you all daily.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Kim. My famiIy lived next door to him and his family when we were young. He and my brother were inseparable for many years. Lots of memories. My heart hurts for his family. I pray God helps them to find peace and comfort. They are all in my prayers.

I am devastated to learn of Kim’s passing. I met Kim at Murphey Candler, where we coached against each other. He was a great coach and easy to like. I will be praying for the love of Jesus to hold the family close and provide comfort that can only come from Him
