Best Friends

November 3, 2022
Kim was my best friend growing up. From 2nd grade until I graduated and moved away we were inseparable, wearing matching outfits and going everywhere together. Sometimes I was even grounded to Kim’s house when I got in trouble. Lol We put on shows for the neighborhood kids. We made a stage and did plays. We set up chairs and sold tickets.  We put on circus acts and added our younger siblings and dogs to the shows. From dance parties listening to Leo Sayer, Peter Frampton, Stxy, Bostonand ELO to overnights making prank calls and sneaking and smoking. Laying in the sun with baby oil and iodine and lemon juice in our hair!  We thought we were so cool!  The big deal was walking to Airway shopping center and buying shoes at Gallenkamp’s, eating at the lunch counter in Kressgees and stopping in the Gift House for cards and nic nacs. We went out raked leaves, shoveled snow and baby sat to earn money. In high school we both took cosmetology but I was a year ahead and we drifted apart. I lost touch with my dear friend and would see her now and then at the Hickory carry out. We’d always say we were going to get together but sadly we never did. I wish things could’ve been different in the later years but we all have our own journey. I have some of the greatest memories I will cherish from having such an amazing friend in my younger years. Fly high my sweet friend! I’ll see you again one day! xoxoxo Brenda Mitchell Morrow
