Born into the prominent Lagos family of lawyer and industrialist Chief Yinka Rhodes (Bamofin of Lagos) and Chief(Mrs) Elizabeth Abimbola Rhodes (Iyalode of Lagos), Akintoye was the third of his parents' four children.

He attended American College of Switzerland, Leysin Switzerland and Barrington College, Barrington, Rhode Island USA. He read Economics at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston Rhode Island USA.
Upon completion of his education abroad in 1986, he returned home to join their Family business Rosabol Nigeria Limited.
