Mama darling, it's the third anniversary of your passing and it seems just like yesterday. How time flies. I am lighting a candle all day in memory of you and just thanking God for the gift of an awesome Grandma like you for a whole 37 years. I hope you like the wreath we placed at your grave today.

Mama, you lived well. You fought a good fight, you ran the race and you finished the race exceptionally well.

Three years may have passed, but I still think of you and miss you every day.

Thank you for everything you taught me. Thank you for being not only my Grandma, but also my friend whom I could count on in good and bad times. Your love and support were unconditional and unwavering.

I love you so much. Mama, in life I loved and honoured you. In death, I will continue to love and honour you.

May God bless your soul and the soul of my beloved Grandpa as I remember you both on the 3rd anniversary of your passing today and the 33rd anniversary of my Grandpa's passing tomorrow.

Mama darling, continue resting in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Mama darling, wow 2 years have gone by- just like that! How time flies!!! I can't believe it has already been so long since God called you home to join my Grandpa- on the eve of the 30th Anniversary of his death.

Mama, it was a pleasure spending an hour and half this evening from 8.30 pm (exactly the time you passed away) singing your favourite hymns in memory of you and my Grandpa. My Mum and Josh also sang some of your favourite hymns as solos. I hope you and Grandpa like the wreaths we sent to your graves today to mark the anniversaries of your passing unto glory. I had hoped to be at your graveside in person today, but unfortunately due to my recent illness/hospitalisation this was not possible.

Mama, I remain grateful to the Almighty God for your wonderful and long life. I remain grateful to God for blessing me with a fantastic Grandma like you. I remain grateful to God for preserving us and showing us his mercy. Mama, God has been so faithful and immensely kind to us. I know you and Grandpa have been watching over us too.

Mama, although it has been 2 years, I still miss you every single day. I miss your calls. I miss speaking with you. I miss seeking your wise counsel about almost anything. I miss seeing you. Just yesterday, my German friend Christine reminded of the lovely Cameroonian pepper you had brought us in The Hague and how we all enjoyed trying it out over dinner with her. I could go on and on about the beautiful memories we had. Mama, you were a SUPER STAR. Mama, you were a DIVA. May God bless your soul. May God bless my Grandpa's soul. I pray that you both continue to dance with Jesus and the Angels. May your beautiful souls continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

I love you. Two years on, I still love you and will always love you forever.

I am thinking of you today a lot- like I do everyday.

Lots of love,

Your friend and grand daughter,

Chioma

Darling Mama, Merry Christmas in Heaven!!! I woke up with you on my mind, as always. It is so hard to come to terms with not being able to dial your number to wish you a Merry Christmas. Oh I recall with gratitude to God the excitement and joy in our voices every time we called each other, regardless of the day or time and the great conversations we would go on to have for hours.

Mama, I wish you and my fantastic Grandpa a wonderful Christmas with Jesus and the Angels.

I am thinking of you and missing you today, as I do every day.

Lots of love,

You left us exactly 16 months ago, but you have never been forgotten. Still seems like yesterday.

Darling Mama, Happy Easter in Heaven. I guess you are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ with my Grandpa and the Angels. My birthday this year was not the same without your usual call at midnight into my birthday. Today was also not the same without me being able to call you first thing on Easter Sunday to say “ Good Morning Mama, The Lord is Risen!” and you replying “ Yes Oma, The Lord is Risen Indeed, Hallelujah!”

Oh Mama, may God bless your soul. I miss you every day ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.

The love of a Grandma is unique. God must have given grandmothers to us to liven up our lives, to make our lives more complete, to make us well rounded and better human beings. She taught a lot about love and the meaning of family.
Still, we can’t believe our lovely Grandma was taken away from us. We will miss her, but her spirit and strength, lives on in each of her descendants, and in all those who have been touched by the love, strength, conviction, wisdom, and beauty of her soul. Sleep on Ogbueshi Ogalanya Nwanyi. We love you but God loves you must.
God bless.
Thanks.

Darling Mama, at exactly this time one year ago 8.40 pm (11.40 p.m Abu Dhabi time where I was at the time), I got the worst phone call of my life so far- the sad news of your passing unto glory. Oh Mama. I miss you so much. I know you were 90 and everyone says I should take solace in the fact that you lived a long fulfilled life, but I just feel you could have so easily lived till 100.

Mama, to be honest, I thought you would live forever. You were the strongest person I knew. You were my shining example, full of strength and integrity.

Mama, it was a great pleasure to celebrate your memory today (exactly one year after your passing) at St Johns Church Oba with the large congregation present and to spend time at your graveside both before and after the service. Mama you deserve to be celebrated all the time. You were more than a super star. I hope you and Grandpa like the wreaths with fresh flowers we brought you today and placed on your graves to mark the occasion of the 1st year anniversary of your death and the 31st year anniversary of my Grandpa's death. I will post the photographs and videos on this website in memory of you.

I pray for you and think of you every day. May your souls continue to rest peacefully in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Mama, may the Angels in Heaven continue to celebrate you and Grandpa for the exemplary lives you lived on earth.

I love you and I will never forget you.

Fondly and specially remembered today, as always,

Your first grand child and friend,

Happy New Year in Heaven my darling Mama, can't believe you have been resting in the Lord for 11 months already. New Year's day was hard this year- without a phone call to you or a phone call from you showering blessings upon me for the New Year. God has been so kind and faithful and I know your spirit has been with me- it has been one testimony upon testimony and from one good news to another. Things I would have immediately called to share with you, as we always did.

Oh what a blessing and delight it was to have a Grandma like you! I still Thank God for your exemplary life every day.

Continue resting peacefully with my Grandpa and the Angels.

Will love and remember you till the end of time.

Mama darling, Merry Christmas in Heaven. Life has not been the same without you. It felt so surreal waking up today not being able to call you or see you on Christmas Day.  I recall this time last year with fond memories, when we all spent Christmas with you in Oba a few days ahead of your 90th birthday celebration. I did not know it would be my last opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas on earth. Oh Mama, you were so strong. You were so wise. You were so sharp even at 90! Mama, 10 months on after your passing and it has not gotten any easier! Walking through the streets of Dubai last week, I could not help but think of how we rocked Dubai together- often out sight seeing or shopping till late into the night in your mid-80s! Mama, continue to rest well. Wishing you and my Grandpa a wonderful Christmas in Heaven with the Angels. I love you so much and I miss you everyday.

Mama darling, another 22nd day of the month went by yesterday-exactly nine months after you went to be with the Lord and to join your husband, my Grandfather on 22 February.

Mama, as Christmas approaches, I cannot help but remember this time last year when my heart was filled with profound joy as we prepared to come to Nigeria to celebrate Christmas with you and to celebrate your 90th birthday. Who knew that was the last time I would see you? Who would have imagined that less than two months after that trip, my super strong amazing Grandma would pass on to glory?

Mama, nine months have gone by and it still feels like yesterday. I still remember you and think of you every single day. Your death has left a huge and irreplaceable hole in my life.

Mama, continue resting well with my Grandfather and the Angels. We miss you so much.

Darling Mama,

You would have been 91 years old today. I vividly remember the overwhelming joy I felt exactly this day last year when I took cakes to work to celebrate your 90th birthday with friends and colleagues in Luxembourg, while you, my Mum, Uncle Chorley, family and friends celebrated in Onitsha, before your big party in December.

1. You had the biggest heart of anyone I ever met and a personality larger than life. On your birthday, I find myself missing you so much. Your birthdays were always very special to me. I looked forward to it. I loved calling and singing to you at midnight on your birthdays to be one of the first people to wish you a happy birthday. Mama, I take solace in the hope that some day, we will meet again in heaven. Until then, happy birthday to the world's best Grandma!

2. I cherish the close relationship we had and our long chats. I am so lucky to have had a Grandma like you. You were a pacesetter and extremely strong woman. I could discuss anything with you. You had seen it all in life. I will never forget all the advice you gave me. I hope that the angels are celebrating your birthday in heaven as much as we are on earth. Happy birthday Mama! You are and will always be my Angel. Your Spirit came through for me today.

3. You inspired everyone around you with your generosity and compassion. Although you are not with us anymore, I feel your presence everywhere I go. I know that you are looking down on us and guiding us. I love you—happy birthday, Grandma!

4. The world’s best grandmother can never be separated by time, distance or spiritual planes. While you have gone to heaven, I know that you are still with us in every moment. Happy birthday, Grandma!

5. On your birthday, I just wanted to tell you how much I love you. While I cannot be celebrating your birthday with you on earth, I hope that the angels are throwing you a huge party to celebrate what an amazing person you are. Happy birthday, Grandma!

6. Your life was a shining example of what real happiness and resounding success is. Through everything that you have done or said, you have showed me a better way to live my life. I hope that I can be half the person that you were. Happy birthday, Grandma!

7. Each moment of every day is a reminder of all the little things that you used to do for us. I wish that I could go back in time to eat cake and celebrate your birthday again with you alive.

8. You always had the amazing talent of simplifying any problem that appeared in my life. No matter what happened, I knew that I would come out on top because I always had your love and support. Even though I cannot turn to you physically anymore, I know that you are still there watching me from above. Happy birthday, Grandma.

9. I have been so very lucky in life. I was blessed to always have you in full support of me. Even though you have passed on, your strength and grace still see me through the most difficult of situations. Thank you for everything that you have done for me. Here’s to wishing you an amazing birthday, Grandma!

10. I know that the recipe for the perfect Grandma can never be re-made. I might be able to find the ingredients at the supermarket, but I can never copy the amount of love, care and support you put into my life. On your special day, I hope that the angels love and celebrate you just as much as we do. Happy birthday to my grandma in heaven!

11. Your love and consistent support over the years made sure that no sorrow or sadness could really touch me. The only sorrow you could not keep away was the pain of losing you. I am so grateful that I had you as a grandma, and I know that you are keeping an eye on me from heaven. Happy birthday!

12. My grandma was an expert in advising, baking, shopping, investing and gardening. My one goal is to be half the person that she was. On her birthday today, I just wanted to take a moment to thank her for always guiding me and role modelling the type of person that I should become in life. Happy birthday, Grandma!

13. All of my most precious childhood memories were a gift from you, my Mum, my Grandfather and Uncle Chorley. My one regret is that I was not able to spend every moment of your old age with you and helping you as much as I would have loved to. My only comfort is that you are watching me from heaven and guiding my every move. Happy birthday, Grandma!

14. I always felt like the richest person in the world because I had the world’s best grandmother. Even in death, no other grandmother can hold a candle to the legacy you left behind. Happy birthday, Grandma!

15. Mama, you have left a hole in our lives that nothing can replace. I love you—happy birthday.

16. I am so thankful that God blessed me with a grandmother like you. While I think of you everyday and wish that you were still here, I know that it was an immense blessing to know you for even the 37 years I did.

17. Everyone praises the founder of a company for its success. Because of this, I want to thank you for the amazing family you and my Grandfather built. Happy birthday in heaven, Grandma and well done!

18. Your stories inspired me to go for my dreams. You taught me how to avoid mistakes and be a good person through your example and your wisdom. Even though you are now in heaven, you guide me still. Happy birthday, Grandma!

19. All I want to do is follow your example and live a life of fortitude and virtue. You deserve the best grandchild, so I will always try to make you proud. Happy birthday, Grandma.

20. Here’s to celebrating a life well-lived and the most amazing person to ever walk the earth. Happy birthday, Grandma!

21. I am so grateful that you blessed me with such an amazing Mum who has done you and my Grandfather very proud.

22. May your soul continue to rest in peace my darling Mama.

I love you and I am thinking of you, not only on your birthday today, but always.

Happy birthday my awesome Grandma, Ogbueshi Ogalanya Nwanyi (Onye Nkem). Continue resting with the angels.

Dear Ma'am
It is saddening to learn of your sudden demise. We all came to this world and we all must surely leave and kiss the mother earth goodbye. The things we do to impact on the lives of common humanity and the fruits we produce for the betterment of humanity flag us excellently well as the embodiment of peace, progress and upliftment of humanity. Thank God for the rare gift of life that you have produced for us as one of the most iconic and legendary Generals in the history of Nigerian Army. A General who impacted positively on the lives and career trajectories of thousands of Nigerian Army personnel regardless of religion, ethnicity, tribe and social class. Thank you for giving us the best that the system will forever be proud of. Thank you for nurturing General Emeka Onwuamaegbu and giving him the outstanding upbringing to be exceptional in a career he has touched several lives and made giant strides at various capacities and instances. Thank you Ma'am as you rest well in the Bossom of the Good Lord. We are proud and happier of the time you spent on this planet earth and the excellence you represent.
Rest well Ma'am

My beautiful, sweet, kind and elegant Auntie,
You were always there for my siblings and I. You touched many lives with your kindness and generosity. I will never forget your favorite song/dance, “a na ewepu, o na abata, ewepuro ewepu, o ma abata” which was your call for action to us all. You blessed many lives with your kindness and generosity. My one regret is that I never got to share my gratitude with you. I take comfort in the fact that you ran the race and finished the good work God sent you down here to do. Rest in God’s perfect peace my sweet Auntie Lil.

My Dear Aunty Bessy....where do I begin?
The following verses are from Proverbs 31 which describe such a giving, selfless, role model who impacted my life so greatly.
She is energetic and strong, a hard worker (verse 17).
She is clothed with strength and dignity (verse 25).
When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. (verse 26).
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. (verse 30).
My traditional marriage was a success because of my Aunt Bessy. She made sure everyone and everything was in order. She loaned me her precious and very expensive jewelry to wear on my special day. She always thought of family and how to help. She is truly one in a million.
Anytime I traveled and saw my Aunty she would always spoil me. I felt completely safe and did not worry about anything when I was in her presence. She was always giving and helping others. When I needed advice, she would listen to me and truly provide wisdom. She shared so much with me about Igbo culture, my parents, and life. Aunty was my confidant. She always had gifts for my children and prayed for me and my family. Her presence and wisdom will be missed.
Aunty always has fond memories about my Father, her youngest Brother, Ndubisi Joseph Egemonye and the love and respect they had for each other was priceless. I grew up valuing and appreciating the bond between family and siblings.
My Aunty was very direct and she always wanted the best for me. I remember visiting her years ago in Onitsha and she warned me about the importance of eating healthy and not getting too fat! ‘You don’t want to get Diabetes oooooooo!’ ONLY Aunty Bessy could deliver such a message with loving firmness and conviction. She is truly an amazing woman who has impacted my life forever.
I am grateful my Husband and girls were able to spend time with her in Oba for her 90th Birthday. I told her how much I love her... She is a role model, virtuous woman, and one of the most giving people I know.
She lived a great life. She was an angel on earth and now gets to be one in heaven.
Farewell Mama...Lady Bessy Lillian Uzoaku Onwuamaegbu....Aunty Oba....May your soul rest in perfect peace

This is a tribute to my Grandmother, Lady Bessy Lilian Uzoaku Onwuamaegbu, Ogbueshi Ogalanya Nwanyi.
When I think of my Grandma, I think of someone who was not only my Grandmum, she was my friend, my confidant, my mentor, my role model. My Grandma was very special and unique. She was very strict and had a zero tolerance for bad behaviour, but at the same time she was very kind and understanding. She made friends everywhere she went across the world. When she visited me in The Hague, The Netherlands, she made lots of friends there. My friends who knew her and spent time with her every time she visited were deeply saddened to hear of her passing. The Vicar of my church in The Hague wrote saying “ Dear Chioma, take solace in the fact that your Grandma was extremely strong and sound minded even in her late 80s when we last saw her. We feel privileged to have known her and are grateful for the contributions she made to us as a Parish”. The Pastor of the Redeemed Church there in Holland which we also attended sometimes wrote: “Mama, you were one in a million. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with us, and for your unwavering faith in the gospel of Christ. We love you and will always remember you. May your gentle soul rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus.”
My Grandma and I went on several holidays together to Dubai, India, Geneva to visit my Uncle Ucheora when he was living there. She made friends even in Dubai and India while we were there, and she actually stayed out with me in the Dubai shopping malls till late (around midnight) when they close. People who saw her always remarked on her fitness and agility and were surprised to hear she was over 80. She particularly enjoyed visiting the Gold Souk. Many of you would know that my Grandma loved gold jewellery. My Grandma bought me most of the jewellery I own, including the gold chain and earrings I wear on a daily basis.
I cannot help but recall one particular scenario where my Grandma again demonstrated her kindness and selflessness. This was one of many. About 8 years ago while I was working in East Africa, I had rented out my flat in London to a couple who ended up not paying rent for a few months and when I gave them notice to vacate my property, they vandalised my apartment and stole all my new furniture in what was a new apartment. They stole the washing machine, dish washer and some other furniture and also destroyed the shower in the bathroom as well as messed up the walls of the whole apartment. This meant that I not only had to carry out major works fixing and renovating the damages in my apartment, I also had to purchase and replace all the stolen goods in order to be able to rent the place out within the short space of time I visited London for. I remember phoning my Grandma in my devastated and shocked state of mind after visiting the apartment, not knowing where to start or what to do in the situation. My Grandma told me to calm down and reminded me that this was not the end of the world. She offered to come with me the next day to see the state of the apartment. My Grandma and I visited the apartment and then she said “you know what, this will cost a lot to repair and replace the items that were stolen. I will give you 3000 UK pounds to fix the apartment and replace the items and you can repay me in instalments when are able to”. I was amazed that my Grandma at 83, was able to so generously give me that amount of money at such ease. That was the only way I was able to repair this damage in my apartment immediately and successfully rented it out shortly after, without incurring any financial loss of leaving the place unoccupied for a long period. Thankfully I was able to repay my Grandma that money during the course of that year.
My Grandma always called me to check if I was okay and ask how everything was going. A few days before her passing, I called her in the morning and we had a long chat for over an hour. She called me back the same evening and we chatted again for over 40 minutes. Little did I know that was her last call to me.
My Grandma was my guardian angel. On July 7, 2005 when there was a terrorist attack on a London train, my Grandma called me first thing that morning as soon as she heard it on the news. I had not even heard about it and was getting ready for work as usual. I was planning to take the train to work as usual, but as a result of my Grandma’s call, I took extra safety precautions and went to work by bus instead. My Grandma kept up to date with news and current affairs. She was a wealth of knowledge and wisdom.
My Grandma taught me so many things. I cannot count or name all of them. She taught me the importance of paying your tithes to church, the importance of praying without ceasing, the importance of saving money for the rainy day, the importance of picking your battles in life and not worrying about every single thing; the importance of working hard and being kind to people. So many things.
My Grandma was my friend and hero. I could confide in her about anything. My Grandma always gave me money even though I was working and earning okay. If I brought her presents, she would want to repay me for it and I would say “no thanks, Mama you also have to allow us give you presents”.
I did not expect my Grandma to go so soon. That was not my deal with her. She was very strong and active and her mind was very sound. Having done her makeup for her 80th and 90th birthday parties respectively, I had told her I would do her makeup again by God’s grace for her 95th and 100th birthday parties. She smiled and happily agreed. But God knew best. He called her home to join her husband (my Grandfather) in Heaven on 22 February 2019.
It is therefore with a very heavy heart but with gratitude to God for a life well spent, that I now bid farewell to my Grandma.
Mama, you fought the good fight and finished the race very well. You have kept the faith. Well done. Your legacy will live on.
As per the promise in 2 Timothy 4:8, now there is in store for you the crown of righteousness, which the Lord will award to you in Heaven. Amen.
Mama, Thank you for everything you did for me. Thank you for the huge and irreplaceable impact you made in my life. Thank you for being my friend through the changing scenes of life.Thank you for being there for me through thick and thin. I will never forget you.
Mama, you will forever be in my heart and always on my mind.
May your wonderful soul rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I will always love and remember you.
Adieu Mama, Onye Nkem, Ogbueshi Ogalanya Nwanyi, until we meet to part no more.
Your Grand daughter,

*Tribute to an Amazon(Ogalanya Nwaanyi) by His Hon. Chinyere Ossy-Okoye*
Just as much as the news of your demise came as a shock, I regret terribly that I never had the opportunity of sharing a tea with you. But I have known of the goodness of your heart, the kindness of your spirit, the firmness of your principles and the resilience of your strength, because, they all in one piece reflect in the Honourable Chief Judge of Anambra State, Hon. Justice, Ijem, your daughter in whom the world holds in high esteem. No better way to explain the adage that an apple does not fall far away from its tree.
As sad and as irredeemable as the situation maybe, I remain eternally grateful for being privy to the favors and goodness you blessed this earth with. I currently enjoy the privilege of working closely with your amazing daughter and with no element of doubt, I can say that she is preserving your legacy. This banner of light you have raised high, she and all those who have been opportune to share in your exemplary love and counsel, will continue to raise, even higher.
We will take solace that you left this world, a fulfilled and proud mother with quality numbers to your age and legacies for the world. Continue to rest in the perpetual bliss of God's Love.
Yours sincerely,
His Hon. Chinyere Ossy-Okoye,
Chief Registrar,
Anambra State Judiciary.

What a Blessed Life by by Col. M.Dixon Dikio (Rtd)
Adieu Mama
It seems like yesterday when I had the distinct honor to congratulate you on your 90th birthday. After that brief but memorable telephone conversation, I knew what Apostle Paul must have felt when he looked at Timothy and said in 2 TimotyTim1:5 '1 am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded now lives in you also'. Mama, I can testify that you passed on a good spirit to your children - sterling qualities of selfless friendship very rare to find. I am minded to mention that I did not make a mistake in naming my first son after Emeka who was my bestman. Over the years from the Nigerian Defence Academy till date, I have felt the loyalty which David received from Jonathan. I have moved from believing to knowing that you are in heaven. Be rest assured that your legacy lives on and grows from grace to grace. My family and i bid you farewell. May your soul rest in perfect peace. May God help the outstanding community that you left behind fill the void. God has indeed blessed you.

A TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED AUNT- LADY BLESSIE ONWUAMAEGBU OGBUESHI, OGALANYA NWANYI - by OBIKA EGEMONYE
I got a text message from my cousin Barr. Chukwuma Egemonye on Friday 22nd February 2019 very late in the night informing me about the passing on of our dearest aunt- Lady Bessie Onwuamaegbu. It was like I could not understand what he was saying or I could not reconcile the message. I was confused and short of words.
A writer once wrote “Those who have lived a good life do not fear death, but await it with joy and open hand, but those who have a burden of conscience dread death. The challenge is to live a stainless life so that we shall be prepared for death and heaven at any time”.
Here we are. On 27th December 2018, we celebrated you at 90 in a grand style The entire EGEMONYES were there led by the chairman of the family meeting Chief Nnorukaka Egemonye. We rejoiced with you, prayed for you and told you that we were warming up for 100th year celebration. You told us that you will not be at that celebration. We said ok we shall come for 95th year celebration. You did not reply. We now know that it will be like this.
Aunty, you were too good to a fault. You touched so many lives too numerous to count. You counseled too many individual, families, organizations. What will the churches say, the mouths that you fed, those you trained educationally directly and indirectly. The EGEMONYES will miss you so much especially the Umu Ada and Umu Nna. What about the inyom di. The list is endless.
You were a community leader of note, a devout Christian and a peace maker. Your positive contribution at every meeting in which you were in marked you out and people always wanted to be closer.
Nobody will be able to write completely and correctly about you. Your testimony will continue to spread.
You have not died actually; you have just transited to the great beyond. Continue to be with the LORD till we meet to part no more

TRIBUTE TO A GREAT AUNTY - by Hon Engr Chuck Nwodili and family
My Aunty, my mum’s only sister, and the last of my mum’s siblings the almighty has called on to you.
It was a shocker when I heard that you had left to a higher place, because I thought the massive 90th birthday celebration that you had a few months ago would have given you an extra few more years. But now I understand that at this point of your life you had seen all those you had to see and done all you had to do. My Aunty you had a good life and I know one of your best moments was reunion of your entire family and friends from all round the world who came to see you for your last birthday. I know when I came to see you last September before your birthday you invited me to your birthday though you mentioned that since I am in Nigeria now that maybe I will not be able to make it back. But you had no idea surprise plans for the December 27th party were being made from US for this big celebration. I, my wife and kids were so happy to have been there on that day to enjoy your presence not knowing that would be last reunion with you.
Now you are up there with my Mum, your only sister, you can let her know that her son, daughter in law and grandkids were all together during the Xmas period.
Even with the tough Love and the soft that we shared the memory will remain with me. You will be greatly missed. And to my cousins take heart, just know she is in better place.

TRIBUTE TO OUR MOTHER, GRAND MOTHER AND OUR GREAT GRAND MOTHER LADY BESSY LILIAN UZOAKU ONWUAMAEGBU
       Ogbueshi- Ogalanya Nwanyi 1928 - 2019
Thought it was a dream for only 2 months before the Lord called, we were all with you for your 90th Birth Birthday Celebrations. Like a dream, the BIG STAR and the TREE that provide shade and shelter is no more. To all of us, you are a giant tree with flourishing leaves and many branches; now the leaves no more dance and the branches no more clap that the TREE has fallen.
The call to Greater Glory of our Dear Mother, is a reminder to all of us that the World is indeed not our home and that we are just passing through. Mama's great and good deeds on Earth has reserved a place for her in God's Heavenly Kingdom. Mama showered LOVE to all irrespective of race, colour, religion or ethnic nationality; she was truly a LOVELY SOUL for her gift of Love and Care, deserves the highest commendation.
Mama, your generosity, love, and strong adherence to christian faith are divine assets which your call to Greater Glory has deprived us. To most people, you were like the candle which lights other candles by consuming itself. Mama, you may be gone but we all find consolation that you lived a most fulfilled and worthy life full of Faith, Love and Charity. God the owner of life has called you to rest in Glory. Adieu Mama.

A TRIBUTE TO LATE LADY BESSY LILLIAN UZOAKU ONWUAMAEGBU (NEE EGEMONYE) OGBUESHI-OGALANYA NWANYI - by SIR. DR. DAN & LADY ADA CHUKWUDOZIE
“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” ― Shannon Alder
On this day, we have gathered to mourn ... nay, celebrate the life of a wonderful mother, our dear friend, our Queen of hearts, a quintessential beauty, a LADY in all true sense of it, and a leader who led by example.
Mama’s sterling and rare leadership style was a great inspiration to many, especially to the numerous ladies of the Lady Knight of St Christopher, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha where she tried so hard to refine the conducts and comportments of her Ladies to befit the positions they occupied during her time of leadership.
Mama will be greatly remembered not only for her great love for others through the many selfless services to the needy and the Church, but also for her willingness to share her time and her love with others at all times. It would be difficult to measure the impact she has made on the many lives she interacted with.
She was always loving, humorous to be with and left indelible marks of inspiration on the hearts of her guests by the lively stories of her early educational pursuits in life when it was not usual to educate women. Her life was filled with love, happy moments, and service to others.
We have indeed lost a rare gem, a unique Queen, an amazing pillar and stronghold of love that united us. We know that this is a difficult time to her entire family especially her children.  Ogbueshi – Ogalanya Nwanyi’s demise has indeed left a great vacuum no one can easily fill.
Even though we are saddened by her death, yet we find solace in her legacies and the fact that She was well taken care of and provided for in the most loving way till the end by her loving children.
We pray for the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
May her gentle soul find peace in God.
Yours faithfully,
DOZZY GROUP LIMITED

OF URUAGU NNEWI) - Lady Sophy O. Egemonye
Ogalanya Nwanyi,
Otu Nwanyi as we always call each other,
Irreplaceable Sister in- law,
Ogbu eshi Nwanyi,
Precious Mother.
I find it extremely difficult to face the reality that you have departed this world. It is of great sorrow in my heart, infact, your transition has created a very big vacuum in me. Your absence at ije’s swearing in as Acting Chief Justice of Anambra State created a massive room which will be impossible to fill. I remembered that we always sit together in all - kinds of function, chatting, laughing, to the extent that people do envy us, you always tell them to go and find their own Sister in-law, infact, I really felt so bad being alone that day.
However, my greatest joy is that you lived a life full of great spirituality; you have served God, churches and people to the best of your God’s given ability. You indeed served God with all your heart.
IN GIVING
You had a charisma and character that is incomparable to none, a humanitarian! your spirit of giving is admirable. No hungry person came to your home and left with empty stomach. She never visited without bringing some gifts, I can comfortably say that she was generous to a fault; she reached out to all both rich and poor. Your generosity speaks volume!!
Indeed, the entire Egemonye and Onwuamaegbu families lost a great woman of esteem integrity and accomplishments.
Thank God who allowed you bring up your children-along Christian principles.
May God Almighty continue to take excellent care of your beloved children, Ije, Meto, Emeka, Chinwe, Ucheora and all your grand and great-grand children. May God have mercy on your soul and take you to paradise where there will be no more pain and suffering.
Adieu Ogalanya Nwanyi,
Adieu Otu Nwanyi,
Adieu Ogbu ehi Nwanyi,

TRIBUTE TO A WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE! - by Lady Egosonwa Okafor,
Prof. Ilochi A. Okafor SAN
Celebration of Lady Bessy Lilian Uzoamaka Onwuamaegbu continues. She was an Amazon who was celebrated all the time by her Family. The only difference now is that she's no longer physically present here with us wearing her warm welcoming smile; she has gone to find eternal rest with her Maker.
Lady Bessy was many things to many people: to some, she was the epitome of an accomplished housewife, to others, she was a Woman Leader of repute, but to her Children, she was a Mother to be depended on, she was a guidance Counselor, she was their encourage and Pillar of support. She was a Mother with unlimited supply of love for her family and for Mankind.
The smallest act of kindness or gift meant the world to her. She was simple but very elegant lady, and never appeared to be flamboyant.
We call her "A Woman of Substance" because she was endowed with so much wisdom and had tremendous strength of Character.
Her contributions to Church and Society cannot be quantified and cannot be easily forgotten; especially her reign in Diocese on the Niger as the President of Lady Knights of St. Christopher.
Loss of a dear one, especially a Mother is very painful but we take solace in the fact that we are overcomers.
So my dear Sis, Hon Justice Ijem, we pray that the good Lord will grant you and your Sibblings the grace to bear this irreparable Loss.
Lady Bessy Lilian Uzoamaka Onwuamaegbu, may your gentle Soul and the Souls of all the faithful departed continue to rest peacefully in the Bossom of the Lord until we meet to part no more.

Each time she visits Holy Trinity Church Akaboukwu Uruagu Nnewi she must make something different. The shares she bought for Holy Trinity Church Akaboukwu Nnewi is there yielding dividends. Tribute to an exceptionally outstanding mother of our time .... Ogalanya nwanyi - by Chinelo Dan Nzelu
Beloved Mama, Ogalanya Nwanyi was an encourager and a motivator. Hardworking and very transparent in all her ways .
Whenever I come in contact with her, I feel her strength even at her age and I feel a renewed strength to carry on. Her dressing, sense of humor since during the civil war when I first met her remained remarkably and consistently outstanding. I was her friend on the face book until recently when she relocated back from UK to Anambra state. We always have something to discuss and of course I never failed to gain from our mother daughter jist. I was just thinking of a present to send for her on returning from Omugo when I suddenly heard the news that Ogalanya nwanyi had translated to eternal glory.
That I shall miss her is to say the least. May her very active and loving soul continue to Rest In perfect peace and May the family she left behind continue to take the family to higher strides in Jesus name. Ndonu Ezigbo Umu

Her Life

Bessy Lilian Uzoaku Onwuamaegbu 1928 – 2019

March 18, 2019
by U O

Lady Bessy Lilian Uzoaku Onwuamaegbu was born to church-teacher parents, Mr. Gabriel and Mrs. Mercy Ucheakpunwa Egemonye of Uruagu, Nnewi on Wednesday, 3 October 1928. Her mother was all set to leave for the market when she went into labour.  The baby girl she bore at noon was consequently named 'Uzoaku' (Road/Path to Wealth). Her personality would reflect the urgency of her emergence as she proved a brisk, purposeful person.

Bessy was the third of five children, and her siblings were Benson, Dennis, Grace and Joseph.  Losing her father at the age of eight, she was sent to Agbor to live with her cousin, Mrs. Rose Udegbu, wife of an Anglican Headmaster, who would assist in raising her. One of her enduring memories from that period was learning to make ‘garri’ from scratch.  That skill would prove invaluable in the deprivation of the Civil War. After two years, she returned to Nnewi on her mother’s urging, spending 1939 in her hometown. She daily walked six miles to and from the Central School, Nkwo Nnewi, and another ten miles on water-fetching trips to and from the Obiakoloma stream.  The water-drawing treks, when undertaken in the moonlight, were termed  'Mmili Onwa'.

In 1940, Bessy went to live in Aba with Reverend and Mrs. U. Boyle – the Sierra-Leonian couple who built the present St Michael’s Cathedral, Aba – and from there she attended St. Monica’s College, Ogbunike.  She subsequently proceeded to the Teacher Training College in Old Umuahia for three years, then worked as a teacher in Warri and Obosi.  On completion of her post teacher-training bond of 4 years, Bessy got married to Moses Obumneme Onwuamaegbu, then the Principal of lheme Memorial Grammar School (IMGS) Aro-Ndizuogu, Imo State.  Moses’ siblings were Isaac, Hannah, Gilbert and Jemima.  Their marriage produced five children: ljem, Meto, Emeka, Chinwe and Ucheora.  At the time of her death, she’d had ten grand children – Chioma, Osazuwa (d), Christine, Paul, Grace, Karen, Femi, Natachi, Obi and Kosi – and had two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Joshua.

With her marriage, Bessy joined the staff of IMGS as a teacher. Four years later, the couple left for the UK where she studied Catering and Dietetics while her husband obtained his Law degrees, finishing as the fourth Nigerian to earn a PHD in Law.

On their return to Nigeria, they settled in Port Harcourt.  Bessy worked as an officer at the Shell Petroleum Development Company as a contract staff, and subsequently at the famous Kingsway Stores.  Five years later, on the outbreak of the civil law, she and her family moved to Oba.  The war stripped them of virtually all their possessions, including their properties in Port Harcourt due to the ‘Abandoned Property’ policy of Rivers State.

Facing up to the challenge of starting life afresh, Bessy and her family settled to Enugu. She manifested her entrepreneurial skills, establishing businesses in baking and retail.  In 1972, her husband was appointed the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of the East Central State, which has since become the five states: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.  In that early postwar era, Lady Onwuamaegbu took up an appointment with the East Central State Government as a health sector catering officer.

Her husband was appointed a judge of the State High Court in 1978, and in 1980 the family moved to Onitsha where he was sitting.  Bessy joined the staff of General Hospital Onitsha where she worked until she retired.

Upon retirement, Bessy immersed herself in service to the church and humanity. She was after all the offspring of evangelists, raised partly in a vicarage in Aba. She worked on many church committees and projects in a leadership capacity, including the Lady Knights of the Niger Diocese – comprising the ladies of Awka, Nnewi and Enugu Ladies – which she led for several years. She was a Patroness of both St Paul's Anglican Church and St John the Apostle Church Oba.

Bessy’s generosity and philanthropy were legendary.  Her donations to the church included two marble pulpits at St Paul's Oba, and Holy Trinity, Uruagu.  She gave much towards the building and establishment of the new St John the Apostle Church, Oba. Encountering a widow in Oba, and learning that she and her children would shortly be rendered homeless, Bessy funded the construction of a three-bedroom house for the vulnerable family.  She also routinely paid the school fees of many young people whose education was threatened by lack of means. Considered a fashion trendsetter, Bessy clothed many women around her in the latest fashions over the years.  She loved to bake and from her Port Harcourt days through the Civil war, Enugu and Onitsha phases, was often sought to make wedding cakes for couples across eastern Nigeria, some of which she did gratis.

An effervescent soul, Bessy championed the rights of all in society. Although never keen on flying, her sense of adventure saw her visit various countries on different continents.  She loved to drive, a passion developed in an era when few women could be found behind the wheel on Nigeria’s highways, and which she pursued well into her eighties – until prevailed upon by her children to give up. No mean feat in Onitsha.

Fiercely independent, Bessy was methodical and fastidious, remaining strong, lively and articulate to the end.  She passed away after two days of illness, On 22 February 2019 – a day to the 30thanniversary of her husband’s demise.  Her remains will rest beside his in the premises of St John the Apostle Church, Isu Oba, which they had both striven to establish.

Apposite to an appraisal of her life are the resonant verses of the Bible’s Book of Proverbs, chapter 31.

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value…
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy…
 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come…

The imperishable lines of William Wordsworth are also apt of Lady Bessy Onwuamaegbu:

A perfect woman, nobly planned

To warn, to comfort and command

And yet a spirit still and bright

With something of angelic light.

May her valiant and serene soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.

Mama's vist in Nov 2018 - by Uchenna Onwuamaegbu Ugwu

March 11, 2019
by U O

Mama came to my office in November to bring her birthday party invitation for me but I was not around.

She repeated the second time and I was in the office, I was overjoyed to see her, we walked through the mall together and, in my usual manner with her, I asked her how she was feeling.  She said "I am feeling blessed at 90."

After using the bathroom she gave the cleaner a tip.  With joy, the cleaner said "Mama, God bless you ma" and Mama replied, "No, God has blessed me already. I am 90 years now, I walk on my own and eat what I want to eat and I see clearly, so, the right thing to ask is for 'God to bless me More.'" The cleaner replied and said "God bless you more, Ma!"

I am so glad that my Children and I have always visited Mama and I am so glad that I shared some memorable times with her especially on the 27th Dec 2018.

My only regret  is that I never got the chance to do that long-planned interview with her to record her life experience for us to learn from.

I will never procrastinate again!

The reason I will celebrate mama is that she had always expressed a wish to go peacefully when the time came- without any sickness that would leave her a burden or at the mercy of anyone.  She often said ... when the right time comes, I will go to my maker peacefully.

Mama Rest In Peace.

Uchenna Ada Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu
