Her Life
January 28, 2016

Laia lived life to the fullest. Although she was born and lived her early life in Barcelona, she always thought of herself as a citizen of the world. From her earliest days she was a natural performer, singing, dancing, playing characters. This lead to her development as a linguist and as a professor in the Department of Education at the University of Barcelona. She taught “Drama & Dreams: Symbolic Languages” for more than 20 years (1978-2000).

She also was fascinated by dreams, shamanism, and rituals of all types. She studied with many teachers, forever thirsting after experience and understanding. She became a puppeteer in her 20’s, and with her husband, Ron Dans was a founder of Puppet’s Revenge (Taos 2001) and founder of Puig & Xinel.lis Teatret (Barcelona 1980). She was a Certified Dreamworker from Pacifica Institute (CA 2004). She gave Dreamworkshops in different settings: prisons (Barcelona and New Mexico) Mental Health Centers (NYC), Special needs children (Barcelona), and Hispanic Women (Santa Fe).

She was the founder of “Interior Gamma Creativity Studio” where she gave workshops in Dreams and Drama and Psychomotricity. Barcelona 1991-1994

She travelled with Puppet’s Revenge throughout USA, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Senegal and Mali performing in small villages as well as in International Puppet Festivals.

She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2012, but even with many treatments she never slowed down, continuing to perform plays, travel extensively, and cook wonderful Catalan meals for all her friends in Santa Fe. She decided in June 2012 to write a tale based on her experiences with cancer, which she finished on Nov. 15,  2015, the day that she had seizures that landed her in the NM Hospital. I am continuing with the publication of this novel under the title, “Mr. C., my favorite monster”. She died as she had lived, peaceful and full of good humor to the end.
