Her Life
July 14, 2017

Ms. Lana Loretta Cooper, loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed on Monday, July 10, 2017, in Lanett, Alabama. She was 50 years young.

Born in Valley, Alabama, on March 02, 1967, Lana was the youngest of three children born to the late George Eddie and Mary Lois Jackson Cooper. She loved the Lord; therefore, at an early age, she accepted Christ and joined the Mount Hermon Baptist Church of Lanett under the leadership of the late Reverend Louis Upshaw. She was an active member of the Junior Choir where she would often lead songs as a soloist.

Lana was a proud member of the Valley High School Class of 1985. During her time at VHS, Lana was involved in a number of campus activities and organizations. Most notably, she was a member of the Dance Drill Team, the Flag Corps, the Concert Band, and the Homecoming Court. Lana’s devotion to her studies was reflected in her inclusion on the Academic Honor Roll. Lana held the VHS Class of 1985 near and dear to her heart, while preserving lifelong friendships with many of her classmates.

Throughout her adulthood, Lana committed her occupation to serving the Retail and Manufacturing industries. Additionally, Lana often enjoyed expressing her gifts for hair styling.

On Monday, July 10, 2017, she heard a voice while resting in the comfort and privacy of her home and sanctuary. That same voice called her name. Ms. Lana Loretta Cooper answered the call and transitioned peacefully. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. George Eddie Cooper, and her mother, Mrs. Mary Lois Jackson Cooper.

A legacy of love is entrusted to her one and only surviving child, Mr. Derensky Marquet Cooper (Winston-Salem, North Carolina). She also leaves her love to the following survivors: two sisters, Ms. Deborah Cooper Holliday (Columbus, Georgia) and Ms. Deborah Sujett Tillman (Manhattan, New York); two brothers, Mr. Orlando Dewayne Cooper and Mr. Eddie Mitchell Trammell, both of Lanett, Alabama; one nephew, Mr. Jatorience Jarrell Thornton (Columbus, Ohio); two nieces, Ms. Shakeevah Betillman (Bronx, New York) and Miss Kamia Trammell (Lanett, Alabama); one uncle, Mr. Bobby (Christine) Jackson (Lanett, Alabama); a special friend of many years, Mr. Terry Gilliam (West Point, Georgia); a host of cousins, other relatives, classmates, coworkers, and friends.

Lana will be remembered for her strong faith in God, warm demeanor, infectious smile, incredible strength, and giving spirit. She loved spending time with family and friends and would give her all to help anyone in need. She brought light into the lives of everyone she met.
