Life Reflections of Larry Richardson

Larry Kenneth Richardson, the fifth oldest of ten children was born on February 18, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the union of the late Robert and Mabel Richardson. He confessed Christ and was baptized at the Morning Star Baptist Church (MSBC) on December 6, 1981, under the Pastorate of the late Doctor Calvin A. Harper. He was a very active member of MSBC, serving in the Men’s Fellowship and Food Pantry. Larry also blessed the church with his melodious tenor voice by singing with the Male Chorus.
On December 13, 1976, Larry married the “Love of his life,” Judy Richardson, who preceded him in death on October 25, 2020. Larry and Judy’s union was blessed with five children between them: LeDon (deceased), Kevin (deceased), Kindel, Bredia and Sanita. Larry loved his “Family.”
Prior to meeting his wife Judy, Larry was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio’s West End. He attended Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary school. Due to the demolition and re-construction of the West End, 47,000 Black families were uprooted and had to be re-located to other communities. The Richardsons moved to Evanston, which caused Larry to attend Withrow Jr/Sr high Schools. Larry Richardson graduated from Withrow High School in 1967. During high school he ran Cross Country and became an expert Chess Player. After completing high school, Larry decided to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. While serving in the military Larry traveled to Spain, Paris-Denmark and fought in Germany. During his military tour, he would faithfully write precious letters to his parents and siblings providing updates on his experience and activities.
Larry Richardson was a fun-loving guy. As a middle-child, he never made waves or caused his parents any grief. However, as a good-looking young Black man, he would give the ladies a fit! That is until he met Judy, his “lady for life!” Larry loved to roller skate, play chess, enjoyed dancing, and watching all types of sports. His sport-of-all-sports was bowling. Larry was a league bowler for 55 years. He started at the old “Frisco’s on McMillan in Cincinnati.
When it came to employment, Larry was not a slouch! When he came home from the military, he was employed at the Nutone door chime company in Madisonville for twenty years. He later became a reservationist at American Airlines until retirement. Before full retirement, Larry thought he would try his skills at being a security guard.
He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather (Paw Paw), brother, son and friend, Larry was a very lovable guy and easy to talk to at times. There were times when he would make very serious statements, but because of the way he said it, you almost always ended up laughing. His siblings referred to Larry as the “Professor.” He had a way with words! As a retiree, his time was spent with his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Paw Paw could be found any day of the week caring for and entertaining the grandchildren. He would sacrifice at a moment’s notice, his time and find ways to celebrate and spend time with his precious grandchildren.
Larry was a very generous and thoughtful person. He would always bring little treasures and giveaways to the family functions. He never missed calling a relative whether near or far, extending a very special Happy Birthday. Having retired from American Airlines, Larry would often use his American Airlines' “Buddy Passes” to travel, especially with his wife Judy before her death.

Larry will be missed by everyone who knew him for his love and dedication to family, quick wittedness, generosity, warm-heartedness and that beautiful head of pre-mature gray hair!!!
