His Life

Defining

November 4, 2014

Lawrence, Larry, Bear; a kind and compassionate gentleman that found it easier to speak from his head than his heart.  His smile, his warmth and the mischievous glint in his blue eyes made everything okay with the people he shared his life with.  The world feels larger, and sadly, a bit lack luster in his absence.

He leaves in his wake 6 loving children with their partners:
Mike & Ellen, Patrick & Jenny Nicole, Andrea & Philip, Elaine & Ryan, Meredith & John, Laura & Trevor...And 6, nearly 7 grandchildren:  Desmond, Carolyn, Sophia, Meara, Tabitha, Brendan and TBA.

A blessed family and treasured friends, a collection of acquaintances that touched him deeply as he became a member of a sainted group of warriors battling and on occasion enduring, terminal illness.  Larry was strengthened by his faith and the miracle of prayers, the education, training and compassion of doctors, nurses, nurse practioners, medical assistants and staff as well as therapist, fellows, parking valets, business colleagues, students, neighbors, treasured friends and family together with love.

We each grieve the loss of a great, kind and unique gentleman.

Learning

November 4, 2014

In the tumultous times of the 1960's, he protested the war in Vietnam while serving his country in the National Guard, where he became  a leader.  As he worked and served, a recurring theme to his life, he continued his education earning a Master's degree in business at the University of Southern California.

While the Boy Scouts and American Field Service defined him, business polished him.

General Contractor to the Los Angeles World Trade Center, corporate development for a Fortune 500 Corporation, as well as management and sales, he successfully spanned the industries of construction, petroleum, and electrical manufacturing.

He traveled the globe; teaching, learning, and leading while sharing his insights and experiences.

Growing

November 4, 2014

Growing up in southern California, Larry led a traditional life of church, school and the usual boyish pastimes; bicycling, skateboarding and body surfing.
While day dreaming in school, he found purpose within the Boy Scouts of America. He began a wolf cub, Webelo, Scout, rising to Eagle and receiving Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow through community projects and cheerful service to others.  His early business training began with paper routes, delivering Fuller brush products and turning on the Christmas lights in downtown Lynwood for the holiday season.  In high school he was selected as a foreign exchange student with the American Field Service to live and learn on a rural farm in Switzerland.

He spent his college days at the University of California Los Angeles, enduring engineering while exploring and enjoying a multitude of interests.  Playing a sousaphone in the UCLA marching band, member of the ski team, intramural activities with the legendary Frito Bandito's, Larry enjoyed the thrill of basketball in Pauley Pavillion.
