ForeverMissed

Mobile photographer and artist Laura Hart Worsham was the daughter of Cliff and Ellie Worsham (both deceased). A Mobile native, she grew up in Springhill, attended Ashley Hall, and held an undergraduate degree from Randolph-Macon Women's College and a graduate degree from New York University. She is survived by her brothers John Worsham (Gray); Cliff Worsham (Karen); Stephen Worsham (Beth); Frank Worsham (Carolyn); and loving nieces and nephews Laura Worsham Delfausse, Dillon Worsham, Clifton Worsham, and Ellie Worsham.

Laura worked as a professional photographer in Mobile for many years and was a long-time member of and exhibitor at Cathedral Square Gallery. She loved living in the Oakleigh Garden neighborhood and was a supportive friend and neighbor. She cared deeply for animals, had several rescue pets including her beloved dogs Dobby and Bear, and volunteered regularly at Mobile’s Animal Rescue Foundation.

Laura was intellectually curious across a broad range of subjects and was a member of one of Mobile's oldest literary 'salons,' or reading clubs, for 26 years. "Laura’s interest in science added a new dimension to the salon discussions, which were usually dominated by literature. I remember her presentations on time and genetics as being particularly well done. Her curiosity was always stimulating. We will miss her," said one long-time friend.

The American impressionist painter Frank Weston Benson was Laura's great-grandfather. His art and the New England influence of that side of her family were important stimuli for Laura's life and artistic development.

On June 4, 2017, Laura was attacked and shot by an intruder in her home. The shooting left her paralyzed. Despite intensive therapy, she never regained the ability to walk, and her health gradually declined. Infection set in, and it became overwhelming. Laura died peacefully in her home on July 8, 2019.

The drawing is a portrait of Laura made by Mobile artist Frank Vogtner in the 1980s, when Laura was leaving for New York. The Guggenheim was before her; USA's College of Medicine, where she had been working as a video editor, behind her. The car is filled with Mobile-related items. Anyone who knew Laura will instantly recognize her profile.

A memorial service for Laura Hart Worsham will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at All Saints Episcopal Church, Mobile, Alabama, time to be announced later. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Mobile Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) 6140 Rangeline Rd. Theodore, AL 36582 http://www.animalrescuemobile.org/ .

What a beautiful, young spirit! I only knew her as a child. I am very glad to see all that she accomplished in her life, and I am sorry to hear of her passing.

Laura was one the usual creative suspects that made up the guest list for parties during my annual visits to Mobile and Selma Ave.
A wonderful conversationalist and an engaging spirit, Laura was a multi-talented child of God. Irreplaceable, she will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to first meet Laura when we attended grade school together at St. Ignatius just around the corner from where she grew up. Always easy to talk to and impressive as an artist and an athlete back then. After many years of no connections I was pleased when shortly after my divorce she agreed to meet me at Callaghan's for a few drinks and many laughs well into the night. Simple friendship that I will treasure. God Speed, Laura, God Speed
