Sometimes I think of Laurie when I get stuck with some internet/computer “challenge” and start cursing at my computer. She was a self-taught wiz on all things internet. I miss her so much!

As she did with everyone she encountered, Laura captured and inspired my heart like no other. Love radiated through Laura in the most meaningful ways because she gave of herself through her time, her attention, her affection, and her sweetness. She could and did cause me to was laugh out loud with complete abandon so many times. Despite her brilliance and her radiance, Laura was a bit of a klutz but she owned it.  My baby girl, as I called her, would charge in to help you like a "bull in a china shop." It was at those times that we would laugh out loud together. There will never be words that can adequately describe my relationship with her. Never will I forget her. Never will I stop missing her. Never will I love another "daughter" as I loved her. I still love her and I miss her oh so much. Who wouldn't? I cannot name another person I have known who loved with such acceptance and sincerity. If you were asked at Judgement, how did you live your life? How did you love? Could you answer as Laura can. I loved with all my heart, with all of my might, and with all of the kindness I could muster. I am a loving person, but I could not say that I compare to her. I know my sweet baby girl is in the company of divine radiance.

Birthday Tribute

40 Years ago today, Karen and I were blessed with the birth of our first child, a baby girl, Laura Lianne. For more than 39 years, she brightened our lives, returned our love, tirelessly offered her time and help when we needed it, and made us proud in so many ways. Judging by the comments by friends and acquaintances on her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/laura.hill.357622), her family members weren’t the only ones touched by her life in these ways.

Today we remember her. We cry once again at the reality of losing her and missing talking with her and feeling her heartfelt hugs. We yet again feel the Laura-sized hole in our hearts and wonder when or if it will completely heal.

But we also once again celebrate her well-lived life and the example of selfless love that she left for us. We celebrate the lives she saved by signing up as an organ donor (see the “The Lives That Laura Saved” post on the “LIFE” page for an update!). We remain proud of her successes (see the “Laura’s Professional Work Continues to Bear Fruit!” post, also on the “LIFE” page). And we realize how fortunate we were to have had so many years with her.

So, today we give great thanks for the gift of having traveled down a stretch of life’s road with our Laura as a loving companion. May the sweet memories of her time with us continue to light the paths and brighten the days of all those who knew her!

Laura was the light of our lives. From the day she was born until her last day with us, she brightened the lives of everyone she met. She cared deeply for others, and perpetually sought to help and show kindnesses to family, friends, and strangers alike. She repeatedly rescued dogs and cats from shelters and showered them with care and affection. Her love and thoughtfulness seemed limitless, and throughout her life she thought it no sacrifice to give even her sleep hours to help someone in need of a favor or simply a shoulder to cry on. So, it came as no surprise to us to learn that she wanted to give one last time at her passing, as an organ donor forwarding the gift of life to others. May her light continue to brighten the lives of those recipients who she helps now, and of all those whose lives they go on to touch thereafter. -- Laura's Family

Birthday thoughts -- August 6, 2022

August 6, 2022
We’re thinking of you today, daughter, on this anniversary of the day you were born. Just now re-read the “Birthday Tribute” we left here one year ago today (below). After a good cry, we realized we said it all then, and there is little more we can now add…other than to say that you are ALWAYS on our minds and in our hearts. We think about you, Laura, every single day. And every single day, we miss you dearly. We love you more than we can possibly find the words to express. And we look with great hope to a day when we can once again share a hug—one of your strong, heartfelt hugs that always instantly conveyed your deep love—and, face-to-face, wish you a Happy Birthday!

All Our Love, Always,

Mom and Dad

9/9/2021 UPDATE: It just happened again!

September 9, 2021
Who would have guessed that professional work by Laura that ended last March would still be yielding successes a half a year later?  Exactly one month after we added the "8/9/2021 UPDATE on 'Laura's Professional Work Continues to Bear Fruit" post (see below), Laura's former employer, CIT, has informed us that, incredibly, the company has just won a SIXTH contract since her passing based on bid proposals that she had produced before her untimely passing.  Laura didn't live to see this stunning string of successes, but she would be quite proud of it...and so happy for her company and the team that worked with her on those projects!

8/9/2021 UPDATE on "Laura’s Professional Work Continues to Bear Fruit!"

August 15, 2021
Mere days after we posted the report on the amazing series of four contract bids won by Laura's employer AFTER her passing based on proposals that she created in the weeks before (see post below), her supervisor has informed us that a FIFTH contract has been won based on Laura's work!  While it is unfortunate that Laura didn't get to see the great continued success of her efforts while here with us, we and the company she served celebrate her ongoing victories and the talent and professional dedication that she brought to her work for her team.  She continues to make us proud!

Laurie’s Kindness, Thoughtfulness, and Generosity

August 6, 2021
Laurie was so kind to both humans and animals. She saved two dogs from the animal shelter. This included nursing and caring for each when surgery was required. And paying the vet bill $$$$. She also saved a few cats along the way.

Laurie lived with, and lovingly took care of, her grandmother (my mom) for years. Mom eventually needed to be in a nursing home, where she passed away. Laurie baked cookies and took them to the nursing home staff as a thank-you for the care they gave mom. That was how kind and thoughtful she was.

When I had back surgery, she took time out of her busy life to stay overnight with me. Kind and generous.

I am still having difficulty processing that she is really gone. I didn’t see her for more than a year because of COVID. And then suddenly she was gone. I really miss her.

Her Awntie Kate
