Laura Mae Atkins, the only child of J.T. and Esther Mae Huff Atkins, was born Patsy Kay Wooten in Columbus, Mississippi on May 30, 1962 and adopted on June 30, 1962 by J.T. and Esther who at the time were living in Belleville, Illinois.  J.T. was a detective for the Illinos Central Gulf Railroad and they moved form place to place during Laura's childhood living in various places including Fulton, Kentucky.  They finally setteled in Jackson, TN where they lived until Laura was eighteen.  Jackson became Laura's home and when her parents made their last transfer with the ICG to Louisville, Knetucky Laura chose to stay in Jackson and pursue a career as a police dispatcher with the Jackson City Police Department.   Having known Laura for several years it was during that time that my parents, Huie and Bobbie Allen Stone, took Laura in as if she were their own child and claimed her as their own until they both passed.
