Her Life

Laura Vee Murdock, 81, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on October 2, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Laura’s devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her transition and ultimately gave her peace.

Laura was the third child born to the late Luther and Laura East. She graduated from Lockland-Wayne high school near Cincinnati, Ohio. She was valedictorian of her high school class and attended Central State University.

On March 4,1955 Laura married Leonard Murdock and to this union five children were born. She was blessed with many creative talents. Some of her passions included knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting, reading writing poetry, solving puzzles and playing the piano. She also enjoyed gardening, walking, riding her bike.

She was employed by the City of Springfield as an Administrative Assistant for many years until her health failed.

Laura was preceded in death by her loving husband Sgt. Major Leonard Murdock USMC-Retired; son, Bernard (Jerry) Fitzgerald Murdock; two brothers, Luther Lee East and Harold East; one sister, Mary Jane Gavin; one step-brother John East (Mayetta). Laura leaves to cherish her memory; three sons, Leonardo (Eddie) Edward Murdock, Fredrick (Freddie) Alan Murdock and Gregory (Greg) Alexander Murdock (Catherine), one daughter Michelle Murdock Thrash (Ricky); two step-daughters, Amelia (Millie) Patterson, and Lucretia (Chrissy) King; one sister, Ann Lawson; seven grandchildren, James Richard Thrash III (Kate), Kristen Nicole Thrash, Brittany Nicole Smith, Rasheen Dominique Williams, Monica Ariel Murdock, Abigail Murdock, and Joshua David Murdock; two great grandchildren, Timmothy Julian Thompson and Sydney Abriel Thrash; special nephew, Sidney Gavin; special niece, Cheri Lawson Burgess (Earl); and special friend Dorothy L. Waker, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
