OBITUARY

Laurence Godfrey   Rudolph Athol was born in   Stewartville, Guyana on March 27, 1926. He was the middle of three children,   Lynette and Simon. He left Stewartville at the age of three and moved to   Georgetown where he lived on Halley Street with mother. Nevertheless he went   back to Stewartville on weekends to stay with his grandmother in the big yard.   Laurence attended St. Stevens Primary School. Later he attended Smith Church   Secondary School where Mr. Pollard was the Head Master. He gave his life to   Christ at an early age and remained faithful to serving the LORD.

During his time in Georgetown, Laurence   was a riverboat pilot apprentice. He later became a police officer and served   faithfully on the force. In 1952 he met Sheila Moore and from this union,   Carol was born.

In 1954 he migrated to Yorkshire,   England and married Eglah Barnwell. They had three children; Keith, Jennifer   and Dawn. While in England Laurence worked as a plane mechanic as he studied and   earned a college degree.

In 1968 Laurence and his family moved to Brooklyn New York. He worked   for New York Bell for 33 years and worked his way up to lineman. He immediately became active with the Guyana Ex-Police Association as Chaplain.

He was initiated as a Mason in February of 1976. He maintained his membership for 39   years. During this time he served as a Worshipful   Master. He was a Past Master of Allied Lodge No 1170- Grand Lodge State of New York and a founding member of Excelsior Lodge NO.1177- Grand Lodge State of   New York. Laurence also served as Past Excellent High Priest - Royal Arch Masons,

He was affectionately known as Butch by all his friends. Laurence was loved by all his   friends. Laurence was loved by who encountered him and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed spending   time with his family and friends. On May   11, 2015 Laurence was called home by the Lord.   Laurence leaves behind his children Carol,   Keith, Jennifer, and Dawn. His 10 grandchildren, Faye, Anu, Stacey,   Ceon, Laurence, Omashola, Lisa, Nicholas, Jaimey aud Rachel,  9 great-grandchildren Kayla, Byron, Lilyanahj Ceonah, xavier, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
