Biography

Larry was born in Shanghai, China on May 2, 1945, the first of four children of Charles & Yubei Liu. In 1958, he moved to Hong Kong with his family. He started high school in Hong Kong even though he didn't speak a word of Cantonese or English. Within four short years he graduated with honors and was admitted to M.I.T. where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering. Thereafter, he studied Decision and Control at Harvard University and Engineering Economic Systems at Stanford University.

He then worked at Princeton University as a portfolio manager, managing an equity fund for the University's vast endowments. His later jobs took him to various parts of Asia where he lived for a number of years before returning to the Bay Area in 1998.

Besides his interest in the stock market and global economic and political issues, he loved classical music and played the violin. He enjoyed attending symphonies and chamber music when he lived in the east coast and Asia. He also enjoyed traveling and has traveled extensively in Asia, Europe, and Australia.

Larry was a very open and genuine person with friends all over the world. He was an integral part of the FF Fraternity and treasured his friendships with everyone. In the last ten years, Larry managed the debilitating disease of Parkinson's with grace and fortitude. He never let the disease define him and showed all of us what it means to have real strength and resilience.
