Pat,
Thank you for sharing your memories. I can remember seeing a few of the pictures Dad had of his youth ... including the weights.

Good morning, Once again I am happy to leave a message for Larry's family. I love rereading the messages left for/to Larry. Our neighborhood was not unique for the 50/60's-we basically got along and had our fun times, all ages. It was a wonderful time to be growing up, feeling safe and everyone in the neighborhood knew everyone else with adults ever watchful. Sadly the children of today will not know that peaceful feeling. Even though the buildings are gone, the people and events are forever etched in my memory-your Dad being one of them. :)

I remember the Henry Street house because we would stay with Grandma Heim. If we were REALLY lucky Grandma Heim might let us walk down to Baskin Robbins. That was usually only allowed if our cousin Ann Treml (Olson) would walk with us.

A belated happy birthday to my dad. On April Fool's Day, my son asked, "Mom isn't it Grandpa's birthday today? I remember because he always liked to play tricks and tell jokes."

So thankful those are the memories Noah has of his grandfather.

Pat -- love that you take the time to post memories of your childhood and acknowledge my dad in them.

Whenever I go down Henry Street-our side all torn down and replaced by a meat business, I can still see the houses I once played by and the boys and girls that I played with. Those memories are forever in my mind, each one of the children are etched forever in my memory. Larry was one of those youths, never to be forgotten.

Thank you Jessica. The smiles are still coming when I think of him on his driveway; lifting weights and telling me stories. Yes he was a jokester!

Happy birthday, Dad! I miss you ever day but no more so than on your birthday -- April Fool's Day -- which is the perfect birthday for an eternal jokster like you.

Pat -- I still laugh when I think of your story -- such a great remembrance of my dad.

Larry, I am still smiling when I think of that episode...you were lifting weights in your driveway when you told me that "story". Thanks for the memories-all we have now of living on Henry St.-all houses gone!

Condolences to Phyllis and all of Larry's family. I miss him and remember his welcome contribution to our weekly bridge group. It was sad when health issues forced him to leave our regular time together.

Having grown up two doors from Larry and his family, it saddened me to see that he had passed. Our entire block of "family homes", was just torn down so I guess it is a reflection of our lives also. Larry was a fun "big" guy and I have one vivid memory of his " one upness" on us younger kids: he had a bandage on his upper arm and he told me that it was from his muscle bursting out when he was lifting weights! I never forgot that and continue to be amused by his sense of humor...Now I see that he was only 3.5 years older than me! He sure put one over on this "young" kid back then. Lots of fun memories growing up on Henry Street...
