Lawrence Young, Sr. was born on January 16, 1947 in Birmingham, AL to the late Thomas Young and Lenora Davis.  He departed his life on Monday, July 3, 2023.

He was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Chander in April of 1965.  This union he was blessed with four beautiful children Barbara “Niecey”, Lawrence, Jr., “Larry”, Curtis “Kurt” and Reginald “Reg”.

Lawrence, affectionately known as Larry, Rubberduck or Hummer Larry, received his early education in the Birmingham, AL area and continued in the Wilmington, DE public schools.  He received a Certification of Completion in Auto Mechanics in Wilmington, DE.

Larry worked for University of Delaware, Printz Produce as a truck driver, Chrysler Corporation as assembly worker and a bartender in Delaware.  During his employment in Alabama, he worked at UAB as a sheetrock installer, Eagle Cleaning Service as well as a self-employed Sheetrock Installer.

Larry enjoyed working on cars, playing baseball, and drawing.  While in Wilmington, Delaware, Larry played softball with the Royal Gems - #45 nickname “Rubberduck”.   He was an excellent  cook on the barbeque grill, frying catfish, and cooking his favorite meal.  He also enjoyed attending family outings.   Additionally, he had a keen interest in collecting antiques, coins and toy cars.

This past year, Larry relied heavily on the support and help from his friends – Pole, Jackie, Wadee’ah, Darryl and others.  During his past time, Larry enjoyed watching football, baseball and talking on the phone late at night with his grandson Dimere.  As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was truly loved by so many.  His kind heart will remain in the lives of all who know him.
