Leiping's work

July 18, 2014

Leiping was awarded a Master's Degree in 1989 from the North China Electric Power University.  He also got an MBA from the UK's Cranfield University in 1999.  He worked in the Beijing Economic Research Institute of Electric Power, working his way up to becoming Deputy Director and playing an important role in China's power system planning.  In 2000, he joined the consulting firm Environmental Resources Management working in both Hong Kong and London.  He joined the World Bank in 2004 where he quickly established himself in the East Asia region, working extensively on Indonesia, laying the foundation for today's large and varied program there.  After a short spell in Europe and Central Asia region, Leiping joined South Asia as the Lead Energy Specialist responsible for the Pakistan program and based in Islamabad.  His work there helped establish the Pakistan energy programme as one of the largest in the Bank.

Leiping was a consummate energy sector professional bringing education, experience and hard work to all of the many tasks on which he worked. Despite his illness, he remained engaged and interested in the Bank's.  He stayed in close touch with many, offering his support and thoughts with the same mixture of intelligence and humor that characterised all that he did.  He was a true friend and great colleague and he will be greatly missed.
