His Life

Mr. Leon Brooks was born on July 25th, 1953, in West Point, (Troup County) Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Jimmie T. Brooks and Ada Brown Brooks. On June 9th, 2017 Leon entered into eternal rest at East Alabama Medical Center- Lanier, Valley, AL.

He confessed Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and attended Love Union Missionary Baptist Church before his departure to Staten Island, New York in 1971.

Leon was united in holy matrimony to Margaret M. Pembroke in 1984.

“Buckwheat”, as he was known by many, was employed with Huff Roofing for five years. After leaving Huff Roofing he went to work for the New York City Housing Authority where he was employed for fifteen years until his health declined. Leon retired from the New York City Housing Authority in 1999. He and his family returned to his hometown in 2005.

Leon’s favorite hobby was collecting guns. He enjoyed purchasing guns, cleaning them and trading them. The most important part of his life was spending time with his family whom he cherished.

Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by three brothers; Fred and James Brooks and Peter Billingsley.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Margaret M. Brooks. Lanett, AL; two daughters, Tara (Manuel) Titus, Lanett AL, and Janine (Dean) Culley, Lanett, AL; a niece, whom he raised as his own child, Danielle (Damien) Frazier of West Point, GA; three grandchildren, whom he adored, Deshaun Brooks, Tiara Brooks, and Kayla Titus of Lanett, AL; two sisters, Jessie P. Jackson, Shawmut, AL and Lillie Thomas, Lanett, AL; two brothers, Jimmie Brooks, Lanett, AL, and Homer (Brenda) Brooks, Lanett, AL; two brothers- in-law, Daniel (Lani) Pembroke, Humer, AZ, Edward (Dorothy) Pembroke, Allen Town, PA; two sisters- in- law, Mary Ann Briney, Jackson, NJ and Darcine Pembroke, Staten Island, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
