His Life
February 23, 2015

MR. LEON “MACK” LONG, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 in Carrollton, GA, Carrollton Nursing and Rehab Center. He had been a resident since August 2013 and transitioned to Agape Hospice Care 11-14. Leon was born on June 3, 1950 to the late Mack McCullough and Vera Long of Hogansville GA. He spent his entire life in Hogansville, GA where he was vigilant in the neighborhood helping others where and when he could.

Mr. Long, “Mack” as most called and knew him, joined Springfield Baptist Church at an early age. Although he never married, he enjoyed life and lived his life to the fullest. No matter what he did, he always included his favorite girl and long, long time friend Willie Ruth Mitchell, a true die hard friend and she proved it so many times when he was well and when he was ill.

He attended West End High School. He loved basketball. His favorite hobbies were, fishing (he loved cleaning fish, but did not really like fish), watching golf on TV (Tiger Wood and Arnold Palmer) were his favorites. His music kept him going, his all-time favorite song by the Drifters “THIS MAGIC MOMENT”. Well Mack this is your Magic Moment. He never took a vacation, but told me that if he had, he loved to go to Jamaica where all the girls were. He loved purple. He asked me in 1993 to buy him a suit and he wanted it purple. Since he was tall and slim, I knew this would be a challenge, not only did I find the suit, I bought a hat and shoes to the outfit. He stepped out and went around town strutting his stuff and calling himself a “DUZY”. I called him my BON VIVANT.

Leon had not driven a car since the 70’s, but if he had a car he wanted a 1950 Ford Farlane.

Mack was very respectful of people. He was very honest, a good friend, trustworthy, and would give anything to you if he had it or if he did not he would help you get it.

Leon leaves to cherish special memories, A devoted niece and care taker of 23 years Ella Bailey, Atlanta, GA; A True to Die for niece and caretaker Tawana Reese, Carrollton, GA (she held his hand as he took his last breath, she promised him when he got sick in 2013 she would never leave his side and would be there if anything ever happen to him, she was true to her words.
