Leon Burnice Perkinson ,89, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Monday, January 7, 2012 .

A native of Vance County, the son of the late Elisha Oscar and Minnie Susan Ferguson Perkinson. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Butner, where he was a deacon, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Butner Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Creedmoor Lodge. He was a member of Granville County Shriners and Amran Temple. After retiring as business manager at John Umstead Hospital in Butner, he became President of South Granville Financial Services.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Butner by Rev. Lenny Rogers. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Surviving are his wife, Bess Ruppelt Perkinson of Durham, a son, Randall Wayne Perkinson of Creedmoor, a sister, Laura Frances Wynne of Louisburg, three step-daughters, Nancy Mundorf (Jim)of Charlotte, Linda Wilson (Kevin) of Durham, Phyllis Steele (Luke)of Creedmoor, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Moseley Perkinson, a son, Roger Perkinson and a daughter, Patricia Riggsbee.

Visitation 12:30-2:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Butner.

Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor is assisting the Perkinson family.

Remembering today his gentle nature and humour. What an incredible man. We were blessed to have known him. Praying that God will wrap the family in His love and comfort during this time.

Randy, Thinking of you at this time of sorrow.Mr. Perkinson was a wonderful man in his community and the Butner Baptist Church.Knowing he is in Heaven at rest has to be a blessing to you.
