Leonard's Life cont

September 27, 2012

Leonard started fishing with his Dad at the age of 14. It was not an easy life but to earn a living that was  the way the young men went , fishing with their father's. He fished lobster, salmon, cod fish, herring, mackeral. it was a full time job and a tiresome one. Storms destroyed gear and that was costly to repair or replace.
School was  a short life for fishermen as they had to start early so to get to Gr 7 was a real joy. Although, school was not top list, those men were smart , sometimes smarter than those who made it to University. they learned about life by living it and it was not easy.
I met Leonard when i was 17 and we both fell in love right away. We were married 6 month later. I lived 5 miles from his home town and I was baby sitting for a couple just a few doors from where Leonard lived with his parents. I thought he was the most gorgeous man alive..LOL.. He was kind, caring and loving and I knew it was him or no one.
We married on November 16, 1961. It was  a beautiful sunny day and the priest told us someone was looking down on us as when we got up the next morning the ground was white with snow.
We lived in a little 2 bedroom house  and it was a fairy tale come true for me. I painted and fixed it up so it was comfortable and homey. Leonard continued fishing and I stayed home and kept the home fires burning, as the saying goes.
