His Life

Mr. Leroy Benning of Columbus transitioned Monday at his home. He was 72 years old and resided at 1351 Kings Mountain Road.

A native of Cusseta, GA., Mr. Benning was the son of Mrs. Marie Byrd Benning and the late Lewie Benning, Sr.

He attended public schools in Buena Vista, GA and after graduation, relocated to New York City. While in New York, he was employed by Bee-Bee Girdle and later with De-Bar Construction Company, working there for sixteen years until he returned to Georgia. After moving to Columbus, he worked for Bill Heard Chevrolet, driving trucks transporting parts to various locations for two years.
He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Upatoi, GA.

Other than his father, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Lewie Benning, Jr and Dexter Benning.

Surviving other than his mother are a loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mrs. Georgia M. Benning; three daughters, Fontella Hosein(Michael), Monica Benning(Jeff) and Chantel Nasib(Andre); four grandchildren, Byron Mackey, Jr., Daja Nasib, Gabrielle Hosein and Jazmin Nasib; five brothers, Melvin Benning(Carrie), Willie Benning(Sarah), Amos Benning(Michelle), George Benning and Calvin Benning; two sisters, Ida Meane(Harold) and Ann Dickens(Ronald); six sisters-in-law, Annie Hayle, Lucy Palmer, Janie Milner, Berdia Honaker, Easter Little and Mae Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
