Dad's bike

September 6, 2017

Dad always use to cycle to work just as I do myself, and having now reached the age of (nearly) 54, I can understand why he moved on to a moped in the early 80s when he was around my current age (the muscles recover more slowly these days lol)
Dad later passed his driving test again (having driven before I was born) and left the moped behind for a car. But here's a photo of Dad with his moped at his workplace at Wrightsons in Alperton.

Rose Stoten's Tribute To Her Husband

October 14, 2010

 We watched him suffer, day by day;

It caused us bitter grief;
To see him slowly pine away;
And could not give relief.
His weary hours and days of pain;
His troubled nights are past;
And in our aching hearts we know;
He has found sweet rest at last.
'Tis sweet to know we will meet again;
Where parting is no more;
And my dear husband I loved so well;
Has only gone before.
God knows how much I miss him;
He counts the tears I shed;
And whispers, "Hush, he only sleeps;
Your husband is not dead."
Some day, some time, my years shall see;
The face I loved so well.
Some day, some time, his hand I'll clasp;
And never say farewell.

The Missing Hat

September 18, 2010

One year, Nan and Grandad took me and my sisters on an autumn holiday to the Isle of Wight. One day, we went to Sandown, where we started the day with mini golf, and then cream cakes in the cafe. We then made our way to the arcade. Grandad lent me his cap so that I wouldn't catch the sun.

We arrived at the arcade, and split up in order to go on the machines we wanted. After about half an hour, we left, and walked towards the zoo. When we got back to the car to go home, Grandad asked me for his hat back. This was when I realised I'd left it in the arcade. We went back and looked, but never found it.

The Athletes

September 16, 2010

I remember when dad,mum,dawn & me used to go to our nan's on saturday afternoons, we would leave the house for the short walk to the bus stop,and me and dad would always race ahead of mum and dawn,was never quite sure wether it was we were quick or they were dawdlers, but me and dad were always about 50 yards ahead and I used to make out that we were athletes in a race and we were the leaders,mind you I was having to take a couple of steps to his one to keep up myself. Of course when we got to the bus stop we were stuck,because we couldn't get the bus until they caught up. I can remember this seemed to happen on holidays as well, dad was one of the fastest walkers I think I've ever known.

thanks for the memories dad, miss u forever xx
