Mrs. Lessie Marie Boyd Kirby, 97 year old resident of Huguley, died Saturday, August 27, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Kirby was born Sunday, October 12, 1913, in Wedowee, Alabama, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Cora Pearl Moore Boyd. She was a graduate of Wedowee High School, and attended Jacksonville State University and beauty school. She was a retired beautician with the West Point beauty Shop and helped people in the community. Mrs. Kirby was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Huguley, where she taught Sunday School and was a volunteer at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home until she was 95 years old.

Mrs. Kirby is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Mearl Kirby, a son Dr. Jerry M. Kirby, three sisters and a brother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joan and Sonny Johnston of Huguley; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Sylvia Kirby, Sr. of Delaware, Ohio; her daughter-in-law, Avonelle Norred Kirby of Palmetto, Georgia; 6 grandchildren, jerry M. Kirby, Jr., Elaine Alexander, Leslie Brewer, John M. Kirby, Jr., Kenneth Kirby and Cherri Bolt; 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lessie Marie Boyd Kirby will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at 11:00 AM EDT, from McCarthy Funeral Home. Reverends John Kirby, Sr., Darren White, and Kenneth Overby will officiate. Interment will follow in Marseilles Cemetery, West Point, Georgia. The family will greet friends Monday evening, August 29, 2011, from 6:00 PM EDT until 8:00 PM EDT at McCarthy Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama.
