You are remembered!
Mr. Tomlin
Lily Thao Ngo was born on August 21, 1996 in a small town outside of Boston, MA. She entered our lives and forever changed our worlds.
Lily was very shy and friendly to everyone she met. She would amuse her grand-father by accompanying him on fishing trips and her grand-mother by eating her home made yogurts.
In 2001, Lily and her parents moved near San Jose, CA. Lily became an older sister that year. From that point on, Kathleen looked up to her for guidance and reassurance. They would band together to get their ways with their parents and yet bicker like siblings normally do.
A few years later, Uncle Dale and Auntie Tammy brought younger cousin Jasmine into Lily's world, shortly followed by Alexander, born 2 days before Lily's 11th birthday, whom Lily never had a chance to meet.
On Saturday December 22, 2007, Lily, Kathleen and their parents flew to Houston, TX to have a two week holiday over Christmas and New Year. They were to be joined by family and friends in the upcoming days.
That evening, on their way to dinner soon after landing in Houston, their Honda Accord was violently rear-ended by a speeding Ford F-150 sending the small coupe into a drainage ditch.
The drunk driver of the Ford was heavily intoxicated beyond the legal limit and arrested at the scene. Alejando Sandoval's blood alcohol concentration, BAC, was .12% according to authorities. He is an illegal immigrant from Mexico and has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter and is awaiting trial.
Lily's parents and sister had non life threatening injuries and were rushed to local hospitals in two ambulances. However, Lily had severe injuries and was life-flighted to the hospital. At 10.45pm (CST), Lily was pronounced dead.
Lily was really into Disney's High School Musical; there was a discussion between her and her Auntie Linh whether or not Zac Efron was really that cute. Lily loved that she got her ears pierced (finally!!) and was starting to spend more time at the mall shopping, much like her Auntie Twee. Other times she would patiently show her Uncle Brian how to play the latest video games. The day before her death, she was able to spend time with her friends at the movies.
Lily's smile was brightening and her laugh, contagious. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Lily was the kindest and sweetest student I ever had! Tragically, she was taken from this earth much too soon. At the school where Lily attended, we continue to honor her each year. We do this by allowing our 6th grade students to select one (or more) of their classmates who they believe best emulates the two qualities of Lily which always stood out: kindness and sweetness. We give many awards at our school, but every student is told that receiving the Lily Ngo Memorial Award is the greatest honor that a student can receive.
Lily, God brought you to Heaven because He had a special purpose for you. It saddened us that you left us, and we will always miss you. But I know in my heart that somehow you know that we have not forgotten you.
Your teacher,
M. Tomlin
"It was about Christmas time last year (2006). We exchanged presents. I got a Bratz doll. She got a lamp from our family. At night me and Lily would go next to the game room window. We talked about guys, parents being so weird, and etc. That's my story about Lily! Etheir way she is gone. At least she doesn't feel the pain before she died. She is in a safer place. A place where she isn't hurt. But I will always remember Lily as my sister." - Talena, aged 11, cousin
"...I was devastated by news of her death, and infuriated to learn that the Defendant was not only inebriated beyond the legal limit, but also in this country illegally...Lily was a beautiful and sweet young girl with her entire life in front of her until the Defendant took her life, and brought great tragedy to our family. I have many happy memories of Lily: learning to fly a kite in the park; fishing in a local lake and playing video games with her..." - Brian Curran
