Linda Claire (Alexander) Battle, 48, of Gaylord, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 26, 2010 at her home. Donald and Violet Alexander welcomed their beautiful daughter to this world on June 19, 1962. Linda was raised in Gaylord with her 3 siblings: Jack (Cheryl) Alexander of Gaylord, Ron (Margy) Alexander of Gaylord, and Laura (Rick) Spreeman of Vanderbilt. Linda attended Gaylord Community Schools all though her childhood. While attending bible camp at the young age of 14, Linda met her husband, Kevin Battle. On June 6, 1980 Linda graduated from Gaylord High School and on June 7, 1980, Linda married the love of her life. Linda and Kevin were meant for each other and knew that from the beginning. Together, they had 3 beautiful children: Kevin Ryan, 27, of Gaylord, Justin Daniel, 24, of Greenville, NC, and Nicole Rebecca, 22 of Gaylord. Linda always knew that she wanted to raise her family surrounded by God, Love and Family so she and Kevin settled in Gaylord where they watched their children grow up together. As a family, they shared their religion with the Gaylord Nazarene and Gaylord Community Church families. Linda’s pride and joy was her Grandson, Blake Jackson Battle, 4, born January 29, 2006 to Nicole Rebecca. Linda never lost her faith in Our Savior all through her life. She taught her family and friends the true meaning of Christ and how to live life to the fullest. The people who were fortunate enough to have known Linda knew that she was a woman of God who could light up any room with her contagious smile. Linda worked at Aspen Ridge where she used her gift working with the elderly and their families. Linda made a big impact on every person she talked to. The Battle/Alexander/Spreeman families were overcome with sadness with her sudden passing, but with God and Linda’s strength that each one lives by, it will get easier for them. Linda has a favorite scripture that she lived by day to day. It was taught to her by her father, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalms 46:1” Without a shadow of a doubt, her family and friends know that Linda is walking with her savior, Jesus Christ in the Kingdom of Heaven. She will live on in memories, and through her family. God Bless Linda Alexander Battle. You will be missed dearly.

May God be with you Nicole and comfort and hold you! And to all of your family who miss your Mom so much!

God be with you till we meet again;
by his counsels guide, uphold you,
with his sheep securely fold you;
God be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet, till we meet,
till we meet at Jesus' feet;
till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again.

2. God be with you till we meet again;
neath his wings securely hide you,
daily manna still provide you;
God be with you till we meet again.

3. God be with you till we meet again;
when life's perils thick confound you,
put his arms unfailing round you;
God be with you till we meet again.

4. God be with you till we meet again;
keep love's banner floating o'er you,
smite death's threatening wave before you;
God be with you till we meet again.

We cannot bring her back but we can go to be with her and with Jesus in that land where we won't grow old and there will be no sickness nor death. Only light and joy.

Aunt Linda....there hasn't been a day passed that I havent thought about you...even the smallest things remind me of you! I miss you so much. I woke up this morning to a bird chirping (yes in the middle of winter), when I looked out, it was a Cardinal (the most beautiful Cardinal I have ever seen) chirping outside right by my window. I immediately thought of you. I love you Auntie.

I love you so much, and every single day, my heart aches for you. You were the most compassionate person I knew. I miss you more than anyone will ever know. I love you.

Thanksgiving Surprise 2009

Shared by Justin Battle on February 4, 2012
I wanted to do something special for Thanksgiving. Living 1200 miles away from "home" and family was hard around the holidays. I was a little homesick. I requested time off work and called Nicole. I told her my plans, but made her promise to keep it a secret. I figured I would need to let someone know I was traveling 1200 miles, just in case something were to happen, heaven forbid. The day I was to leave, I packed my car with everything I would need for a weeks trip to Michigan. I got on the road and headed north. I would occasionally check in with my sister to let her know my whereabouts. My mom called me a couple times to chat, which was normal for any day. I played everything off as if I were just relaxing at home after a long day of working. When I made it up to Washington DC, my GPS bugged out and made me take the wrong exit, landing me right in the middle of the Pentagon. I got to see the Washington Monument and the White House, all unexpectedly and not planned. I laughed at this spur of the moment drive and had to call my best friend Nicole Jones to tell her about it. She also had no idea I was headed home. We both laughed at the misdirection and my random visit to the Capital. Back on the road, I finally made it into Michigan around 5:30am. Crossing the border into Michigan is a relief, but also a let down because it only meant I had 4 more hours of driving to make it to Gaylord! I called my sister once I got into town and told her to meet me somewhere so we could park my car somewhere for the surprise. We met at the K-Mart parking lot and parked my car. I hopped into her SUV and said hi to her and my nephew and headed up to my Mom's office. We had to sneak me in the building. Luckily my mom was interviewing a potential new hire, so she was not out and about the building. Everyone was surprised to see me! They snuck me into a room to wait. Blake decided he wanted to tell "Ama" there was a surprise for her. He interrupted the interview and told her she had to hurry! She laughed and excused herself from the interview (It was also lucky that the person being interviewed was a family friend) while I was in the room waiting for my mom, there were about 7 or 8 people in the room talking to me when my mom opened the door. She didn't see me at first, but did wonder why there were so many people in the room. Once people started moving, she saw me. She started crying and just hugged me as tight as she could. I couldn't breathe she was squeezing me so tight! My Aunt Laura was there too, which was nice. We chatted for a while and she eventually finished the interview. We spent a lot of time together, eating good food, etc. We put the Christmas tree up the next day and spent an awesome night at Uncle Ron's house with the entire Alexander gang. I am so thankful to have these memories, it kills me day after day that I am not able to make new memories with my mom. I miss you more than words can say. I love you Mom.

Christmas 2011

Shared by Justin Battle on January 24, 2012

Since you've been gone, the holidays seem to fade away. I no longer have excitment for the holiday's like we used to in the past. This year was no different. The Christmas lights seemed a little more dim, the smells of Christmas seemed a little more distant. Christmas day, I woke up at Kevan's grandparent's house in Vanderbilt. We opened presents, had a great time together, and enjoyed Christmas morning. After breakfast, we headed to Gaylord to celebrate Christmas at your house. When we got there, it just wasn't the same. I only went because Blake wanted to open his presents, and wanted us to be there. He sure did get a lot of stuff this year! :-) We brought Lola to your house to meet everyone. Nicole and Blake met him when they came down to visit last May, but dad and Kevin hadn't got to meet her yet. She looks just like Jammer! Toby & Sage didn't care for her too much, she piddled on the floor when they went after her! We opened all the presents, but something was definitely missing. It's so hard to have that void when I go home. That house was the house I was raised in. I shouldn't feel that way, but it's not the same. They say each day is one day closer to getting past the loss of a loved one. That is not right, each day is just a reminder that you're gone. I did enjoy spending a lot of time with the family, and I did meet Becky, which was nice. You sure are missed Mom!!! I still question why you were taken from us so soon, it's still not fair - and it will never be.

"Love Shack B-52s"

Shared by Justin Battle on September 22, 2011
I was driving to work today and "Love Shack" came on the radio. Whenever I hear this song, I always think of you. It's the type of song that you just want to blast as loud as possible and jam out in the car or wherever you are. You did just that when we were little. I remember the day we were at home, you cleaning the house, and that song came on. They were doing a contest on the radio where you could win grabbed the phone and called. Sure enough, you were the right caller! In order to win, you had to sing part of the song...and you sure did! Next thing we know, we're all in the car, headed to the station picking up your winnings, and headed straight for Toys-R-Us. We bought toys with the money you won from the radio station...that's who you were. You were the mom who did anything for their were the best!!
