Linda's Life

December 24, 2012

Linda Lou Emmons was born at Allegan Hospital on April 25, 1042 to Robert Skillman and Paulina VanNoordwyke Skillman.  Linda grew up in Kalamazoo until the age of 14.  Linda then moved to a family farm in Gobles, to live with her father, grandmother, aunt, and 3 cousins, Peraletta (Hodge), Duffy, and Wayne Dunifin.  She continued to have a close sister relationship with Pearletta all her life.  She worked at the Variety Store in Gobles as a Soda Jerk.  Linda met the love of her life, Larry, at the Pike Lake Dance Hall, and shortly after graduating from Gobles High School in 1960, Pastor Gail Pike married them on August 6, at Merson Church.  Linda became a part of the Emmons Clan on that happy day, and Eunice and Edwin adopted her as their daughter.  She has worked as a Soda Jerk and a telephone operator in Gobles, at Social Services, Bernae's Food, & Dillon's Hallmark, as well as the family farm.  She and her husband Larry worked together on many different projects, including food wagons, t-shirt printing and even a moon walk.  Linda had 3 children, Krisitne Sokol, Scott Emmons, and Leslie Wilson.  Linda was very proud of all her children and always said the best thing she ever did in this life was to have 3 wonderful children who always loved her.  She was also very proud of her grandchildren, Samantha and Benjamin Emmons.  Linda and Larry loved to travel and spent time with their friends like Larry and Ann Carpenter in Florida.  They spent the last 15 years wintering in Florida visiting friends and family, and in 2007 they took a trip to Alaska with James and Gloria Blackman.  Linda loved yard sales, garage sales, flea markets and managed to have enough on hand for whatever a person needed.  She was gentle, loving, a peacemaker, always generous and kind - - - her door was always open to anyone even if they just needed to talk.  You could always count on her in an emergency, or to be the voice of reason when emotions got out of hand.  She had infinite wisdom and patience, and knew that timing was everything if someone were to truly listen and consider her words.  She loved her animals and thought here were too many to name the most infamous and definite favorites were Sherlock the 6-toed cat and Sassy the beagle.  She loved waterfalls, poppies, pansies and reading.  She was  a good neighbor and a good friend.  She began having strokes around Christmas last year, and was constantly fighting to get well enough to come home and to be with her family.  After a final stroke she entered her final rest on September 5, 2012 with her husband and children by her side. She spent her final days at the Wings Home in Allegan.  So if anyone wants to give donations to them please do they can not be thanked enough for all the loving care they gave my mother in her final hours.
