I was saddened by the news of Beloved Mrs. Lineth Sylvester’s death. It was an honor to have known such a great person. I will surely miss the presence of a truly loveable and kind person. Of course, I wish that I had more time…more time to tell her how much I enjoyed getting to know her closely over the past five years…to tell her how much I enjoyed our long conversations about her beautiful family, our faith in God, flowers, sewing, baking, cooking…more time to tell her how much I admired her poise and grace. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. She has left an awesome legacy for her family. I rejoice knowing that she is in the Father’s arms. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. I pray that God will embrace you in comfort during this difficult time and strengthened you during this difficult time.

Estella and I met Lineth and Larry about four years ago when they became our neighbors here in Clermont, FL. Lineth had the gift of serenity which endeared her to people. She will be missed and we pray that God will comfort Larry, the children, and loved ones as they grieve the loss of their beloved wife, mother, and friend. It is in dying that we are born to eternal life - St. Francis of Assisi

Death is not the end, so we can have hope to see Lineth again once we remain faithful until the end.
I fondly remember the times I spend with Lineth over the years. I admired the way she cared for her family, her expertise in sewing, baking, decorating, and her posed and pleasant demeanour.
As Lineth quietly slipped away from her loved ones, I pray everyone especially her immediate family members will take joy in having had her in their lives. Trust in the Lord and lean not to your own understanding in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.

Nene Lineth,

It took me some time to formulate the right words to say. It was only fitting that the words would begin to come to me as I sat in church. As I sat there, I thought about you and all of the memories we shared within those four walls and throughout my life. Not only were you in my thoughts, but your presence was all around me, from the linens on the altar, to lessons you taught me, and even to the yellow breast that flew around the Cathedral. All I could do was smile.

From the many dresses, school skirts, and other beautiful garments that fill the back of my closet, to your delicious birthday cakes (with my name often spelled incorrectly). From the countless days and nights I would spend at your house watching you sew or waiting for you to finish the batter so that I could lick the bowl, to Pepe Larry ensuring that my favorite vanilla ice cream was in the freezer. From being a flower girl in LaVerne’s wedding, to us getting Jasmyne ready for prom. It is clear that you were ever-present in my life and always will be. Thanks to you and Pepe Larry, going to church on Sunday was a regular occurrence growing up. You taught me the love and teachings of God, and my faith is stronger because of you.

While my heart breaks knowing that you are gone, I am grateful for the few hours we spent together when I drove to Philly to see you in August. Looking back at it now, I see why I felt the need to make it happen. I also take comfort in knowing that you are resting peacefully and that you are now one of God’s angels.

A godmother is a gift from God, an extension of a child’s mother, and a friend. She loves her godchild as her own, showing her what love is, ensuring that God is present in their life, and someone to look up to. Like everything else you’ve done, you exceeded all expectations. I cannot thank you enough for playing such a major role in my life and making me a part of your family. Your children are my brothers and sister, and your grandchildren are my niece and nephews/cousins (that part gets a little tricky). The bond that I share with them and Pepe Larry will continue forever. You, my dear, beautiful, Nene Lineth, will forever be in my heart and our memories will live on. I will love and miss you all the days of my life.

Love always,
Your goddaughter,

Khadija A.V. de Lagarde

TRIBUTE TO SOROR LINETH SYLVESTER

To the family of our dear Soror Lineth Sylvester:

The members of Mu Eta Chapter Chi Eta Phi Sorority Incorporated are all saddened to learn of the untimely passing of our dear Soror Lineth.
She was a charter member of Mu Eta Chapter who worked cohesively and diligently with other Chapter members to promote the Sorority’s goals and its moto “Service to Humanity. She served in several capacities within the organization. Her most recent office held before relocating to Florida was that of Dean of Membership.

Lineth was blessed with many talents which she displayed with creativity and sophistication. She gave her utmost to her family, community, church and Sorority. Her wisdom and talents were often sought in executing the chapter’s mandates both nationally and locally. Each year she spearheaded Mu Eta’s Valentines Day flower sale which was the most successful fundraiser each year.

Yes, a limb has fallen from our Sorority’s tree which will never be replaced. We will however remember the good times and the laughter we had when she was strong. She surely will be missed, especially for her ability to interact with us in a warm and positive manner. She was the epitome of Sisterly Love. We will try not to grieve for her because we have that hope that we will meet again and we know that her soul is at rest.

Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is as ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed .
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls
I miss you dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we're together again.

My Aunt Lineth “My Rose” in the garden.

Your spiritual and physical beauty radiated from the skies that painted the hills and waters of the Virgin Islands. This beauty could never be explained but was always embraced and admired by many. Your class, kindness, generosity, and sweet spirit was intricately tailored by your mother to share with those blessed by your presence. She knew how special you were, and I know how special you were and will continue to be in my life. I will pass on your teachings to my future daughters in faith that your wholesome nature will positively influence all generations birthed after me. She “Mary” would be so proud to see the woman who you’ve lived to be—brave, selfless, God-fearing, and nurturing. I vividly remember the moments I’ve shared with you throughout the years. I will always cherish those moments for the rest of my life. As I reminisce on one of my most treasured moments, I remember your warm embrace and loving expression as I became a wife before God. I will never forget your encouraging words and the sacrifice you made to witness one of the most beautiful moments in my life. You never knew how tight I held you near and dear to my heart. You were like a mother to me. I was like a daughter to you. You were my first aunt, and forever I will strive to make you proud. I love you with all of my heart and soul. May you rest in eternal paradise.

Forever in love and admiration with my first aunt “My Rose,”

To The Family of Lineth Lenora Sylvester

Today I will lay this flower in memory of my dear friend, my confidant and comadoo , Lineth Lenora Joseph Sylvester; a vibrant, straightforward, talented and beautiful woman.
Just as the Bird of Paradise, hers and my daughter's favorite plant, stands erect , firm and oh so colorful, so was the life and spirit of my dear friend who had a lovely garden.
Lineth , along with her husband Larry are my daughter Khadija's godparents, true to its meaning and responsibilities. Lineth made most of her dresses especially for church, school skirts, and other outfits right through high school, saw to it that she attended church, was confirmed and participated in church activities.
This is just a sprinkling of her many talents as she was a designer and
seamstress , who produced gorgeous clothing, not just for herself , her daughter and granddaughter , but many others , including me. This was in addition to draperies, valances and tablecloths for her home and whatever the church needed for its altar ; all done with love. Larry had his hand in that too as he would have to put up the rods and prepare the frame for the valances.
Lineth's culinary skills led to her pulling up recou , a form of cilantro from my yard ,which I thought was weed , using it for her Spanish Rice and other tasty dishes which she did so well. Birthdays, holidays and other special occasions wouldn't be the same without Lineth's ,made from scratch , Vienna and other cakes and tarts ; even the cake she made once , forgetting an ingredient halfway through its baking ,as we laughed about it ,while eating it and sipping tea.
The Christmas Holidays were festive as she got us involved in her tree decorating , wreaths everywhere and an entire town/city displayed with
houses, churches, trees, lights, and many other ornaments collected over the years as she and the family lived overseas. This was in addition to celebrating her birthday and their wedding anniversary.
What a phenomenal woman, multitalented and gentle by nature, just
as the profession she chose; one of giving and caring ,as a nurse , though she had a short term in teaching on the elementary level.
She loved children and after having LarryJr. , Laverne and Lecaldo,
her heart was really touched with her grands as she traveled to be with them or as they did during the summer coming here to be with her and Larry , enjoying the beach, the outings and her delicious meals .Their moving to Florida separated us from being the houses around the corner from each other ,giving and sharing, but didn't separate the love
we shared for and with each other. Constant phone calls, pictures of their home and decorations made, family updates, and seeing each other in Maryland at times were all heartwarming.
Getting the best healthcare was a major priority as family and friends were there to assist. After years of great progress and beautiful times, came sad news and hope for brighter days .
As we spoke , prayed and asked for the Almighty's blessings, we knew that it was all up to him.
To my dear friend Larry and your beautiful children and grandchildren, along with your son-in- law, other relatives and friends , I ask that as time goes by, may your sadness lessen and only beautiful memories remain in your heart.

        Because The Angels Came
No more grief or sorrow ,
No more suffering or pain,
Now there's everlasting peace
Because the angels came.
              Excerpts from H. McCarty

Into the arms of the Almighty,
rest on my dear friend Lineth

Eric and Betty Dawson

Throughout our friendship with Lineth and her family, we were able to observe that she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted herself to her family. Her grandchildren spent many summer vacations from school with her and their grandfather on St. Thomas. She looked forward to their visits.

We experienced her hospitality and she made sure that we were comfortable. It was always a treat to break bread with her and Larry. Eric knew Lineth while they were growing up; they were from “down street”. He felt honored when asked to become godfather to their youngest child, Lecaldo. I became acquainted with her and Larry after Eric and I were married.

Lineth excelled in her God-given talent in the field of nursing. She demonstrated her love and compassion for patients whom she served, whether in St. Thomas or abroad, during Larry’s service in the U.S. Air Force.

Equally important to Lineth was her church – All Saints Cathedral Church. She served as a guild member and partook in functions related to our Lord.

May she, through the mercies of God, rest in peace.

Eric, Betty and family.

Mr. Sylvester, Larry, LaVerne, Lecko --- When I think about Mrs. Sylvester, I am reminded of her radiant smile, her thoughtfulness, her awesome culinary skills and her ability to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary. She was beautiful inside and out and by example, has left a legacy for family and friends that will continue through the generations simply because we were in her presence. In the physical realm, I was saddened to learn of her passing. However, I am delighted to know that the life she lived on earth has earned her a special room in the home that our heavenly Father has prepared. Lineth has been through many health challenges over the past few years but she faced each obstacle with fight and determination. God saw her suffering and called her home and said, “Peace be Thine”.                                                                 “I have fought the good fight ….” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Lineth, we will miss your infectious smile (dimples) and your soft gentle tone. You treated your friends as family and we loved you as the same. We draw strength in the knowledge that you have moved on to a far better place of great peace and love. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who truly had the great fortune to share in your life.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, especially Larry, LaVerne, Lawrence, Jr., and Lecaldo. We share in your mourning and pray for God’s comfort during this difficult time.

Hanging out with Lineth on our trips to Johns Hopkins was some of my favorite memories. I was always so amazed at how well she took chemo, stayed upbeat and remained energetic. Her words of wisdom, her unmoving faith in God, her love for her family and her positive approach to life have moved me to be better, love stronger, and to always keep going. She has left an unyielding mark on me and I am forever grateful.

The Sylvester’s have been with the Wallace Family all our lives. Lineth’s kindhearted generosity was always on display. My two sisters (Cherrie and Nyra) remember the many marital conversations with Lineth as she and my mother designed and constructed their elaborate wedding cakes. The wedding present from the Sylvester's was a large family bible. She said that she wanted them to start off their marriages on a solid foundation. My sister Nyra said that she thinks about her often. Nyra remembers Lineth insisted that she use whole milk and real butter instead of margarine if she wanted her Vienna cake to taste like hers.

In much appreciation, last Thanksgiving Lineth (as they say at home “gae up fo-de-marning”) and made Tarts for our entire family. As usual, they were excellent! Lineth did all this while not feeling well. My brother Darryl, spoke of a time where Lineth took masterful care of his very ill son. Just talking about it brought tears to his eyes. For her last birthday, Lawrence, my parents, and a host of family and friends threw a surprise birthday party for her. It was such a delight to see so many people show such appreciation and love for such an awesome, classy, beautiful, charming and extremely pleasant woman of faith.

So, speaking for the Wallace family, we share in and are saddened by your loss. We will hold on to the beauty Lineth has brought into our lives as we keep your family in our thoughts and prayers throughout this trying time. Please accept our deepest condolences. I know this goes without saying, but we are here for you, just as your family has been here for us throughout the many years. Please do reach out should you need a shoulder of support.
With much love and empathy,

The Wallace Family
