Happy Birthday, Mom. As a family, I've noticed that we've been talking a lot about you and PPJ lately. Nolan brings you up often and remembers how much you loved this time of year. Despite our influence, Codey has decided to become a Cowboy's fan. I think PPJ has something to do with this and I'm sure they would've been great pals. Although Whitney has limited memories, we share pictures of you with her and she knows how much you loved her and how important she was to you. Shelley and I often reminisce of the two of you. Typically they involve conversations of what you or Jeff would think about certain situations and then usually end in smiles and happy tears.

Things are so different since you left 3 years ago. There has been so much change that it is sometimes hard to recognize what is "normal." I miss you so much. I know you are watching over us and we see signs of it all the time. Thank you. Please keep it up. I love you so much! Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Mom. I am unable to express how much I want to just give you a hug and talk to you. You continue to be dearly missed. Nolan is getting big and had a great season in football. I volunteered this season as a coach. Codey has fallen in love with ice hockey and has the biggest smile when playing. Whitney has started dance class and will dance anytime she hears music. I can only imagine that you would be right next to her dancing too. Shell and I are doing well, we are just trying to keep up with life. It seems to have picked up speed. As a family, we talk about you often.

I went through some older pictures today and relived some great memories with you. I got to the picture of you at the Owatin Creek gingerbread house decorating night and started crying. Tonight was Nolan's last gingerbread decorating night as a 4th grader and Codey's 1st as a Kindergartener. I wasn't there that night because I had shift work, but the smile on your face (and Codey's attempt to smile) told it all. I'm sure this was a memory you cherished. As we decorated tonight, I couldn't help but feel like you were missing.

I hope you and Jeff are taking care of each other. We miss you and love you so much. Hugs & Kisses. Happy Birthday Mom!

Happy Birthday Mom, you are sadly missed by a lot of family and friends that love you. This past year was exceptionally difficult without your guidance and encouragement. The kids are getting so big so fast, just like you said. You would be so proud of each of them. They each have pictures of you in their room and we talk about you often at bed times. We are continuing to make our memories without you but it isn't the same. We all miss your smile, laugh and hugs. Happy Birthday again. I love you, Ryan

I’m so saddened about the loss of Lisa, someone so very special who had so much love to give.
...so much, in fact, that I’ve always felt like a part of Lisa’s family, even though we aren’t related.
...so much that she’d give me the best hug every single time we were together.
...so much that she whipped up a batch of mashed potatoes for me at 3:00AM one morning because she wanted to make sure her house guests were always well cared for. (She offered...and who could turn down mashed potatoes?!)

As a close friend of Ryan and Shelley, I’ve known Lisa for so many years. She always opened her home to us. So many memories were made there—picnics, game nights, pool parties, and sleepovers that sometimes included setting up large tents in her basement. So many good times. So many smiles. And so much laughter. And Lisa loved every second of it because she was happiest when those she loved were happy.

To know Lisa was to love her. Her radiating love, her hugs, her smile, her positivity, and that ever-present twinkle in her eye are unforgettable, just like her. She is irreplaceable and is so missed.

I love you, Lisa! Heaven sure is lucky to gain an angel like you!

You can always tell the type of person someone is by how they treat someone that they don’t know very well. That was definitely the case with Lisa. She was such a kind, caring, and, most of all, loving person that she would immediately treat anyone that she had just met as though they were a part of her family.
That is precisely how she always made me feel whenever I was around her.

From the very first time that I met her, she made me feel welcome. I can still remember feeling a bit out of place the first time I was over to her home with Ryan and a bunch of camp friends. After all, I only knew a handful of people out of everyone there. I was new to camp, and they had all worked together for years. That feeling quickly disappeared, however, when Lisa met me. She immediately made me feel at home with her warm and welcoming personality. I’ll never forget her late-night meals either. No matter what time we were up till you could always count on Lisa for some delicious treats!

I cannot begin to comprehend how much this loss has affected you all. Lisa was an extraordinary person. I do know, however, that she loved all of you with her whole being. That was always the way Lisa lived her life. No matter who she was with or where she was, Lisa continuously worked hard to spread love. If everyone were a bit more like her, the world would be a much better place. I know that, for me, my life is infinitely better for knowing her.

I am very saddened to learn of Lisa's passing. we grew up in the same neighborhood so I have many fond memories from our friendship. I especially remember her vivacious smile and the chuckle that came with it. I found it very uplifting to be in her company. The family is in my thoughts and prayers. Stay close to those who matter for the grieving, be strong for the healing and allow time for the rebuilding. blessings, Cindy Stump

Heaven has another angel. Lisa will be missed. She always found a positive in the negatives. She fought the battle as best as she could. Our families had so many great memories over the years- vacations, church camp, Rip & Gerry’s, holidays, playing cards, along with all the great times we were together since your birth (I am 3 days older than you & Linda). Enjoy your time with everyone in heaven as they are welcoming you with open arms. You were taken away too young but we will meet again someday.

I was so saddened to hear of Lisa's passing. She put up one heck of a fight the past 18 months, and always tried to stay positive even though she was in so much pain. Lisa was a part of our Muhlenberg family for many, many years. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, helping staff and students with anything they needed. I will miss our conversations & get togethers. My thoughts & prayers are with her family at this difficult time. Lisa, know that I will be thinking of you whenever my chimes ring. Thank you for being a good friend all these years.

It was my privilege and pleasure to work with Lisa for many years in the elementary library, first in the old primary school which then became the Muhlenberg Elementary Center. Lisa always had a smile and kind word for the students and co-workers. She loved to help kids find the just right book, and made the library a welcoming place for all. From birthday celebrations for the Cat in the Hat, to visiting author parades and programs, to poetry parties and book fairs, Lisa was always working to make events special and memorable. Lisa, Diane Vogt and I also became great friends, supporting each other through all of life's ups and downs. When I think of her I will remember her smile, generous spirit, and unconditional love for her family. Peace and love to Ryan, Kristyn, Nancy, Linda, Patty, Donna and all who loved Lisa as I did.

The world has lost a beautiful soul. Lisa always had a smile on her face and what a beautiful smile it was. One of my fondest memories with Lisa is recent. When friends and co-workers from Muhlenberg School District celebrated Lisa's retirement at the end of May with a drive-by parade, Lisa came to my car and told me how sorry she was about my mom's passing at the end of January and how much she had liked my mom. Lisa had gotten to know my mom because my mom had volunteered for some time in the MEC library when Lisa worked there. And that was Lisa. She was facing her own battle but was showing concern for me. Rest in peace, Lisa. You will be truly missed.

Lisa was such a joy to work with at MEC. I will always remember her as such a kind, caring and absolutely funny person. She always had a smile for us as we entered the library; an encouraging word for children who needed to hear one; and a gentle heart and soul when a friend needed to talk or share. I am so sorry to hear of her passing, and how I wish we could have had more time and made it a point to come together more often. Wishing you joy, rest and peace after your long battle Lisa

I worked with Lisa at Muhlenberg for several years. Lisa had a heart of gold, always willing to help others. I remember one time I went to Giant and did self checkout. I left my wallet in my van. Right next to me checking out was Lisa. She overheard me asking the person in charge of the self checkout area to keep an eye on my register so I could go out to my van to get my wallet and before I knew it, she slid her card in the card machine to pay for my groceries. I told her I would repay her asap, I paid her the next day via interoffice mail at work......her response.....I know where to get you.....lol.....no rush. Lisa didnt think twice to help me out. Sending many prayers to Lisa's family. May God bless you and give you comfort during your time of loss. #cancer sucks

My family sends prayers and condolences to the whole family. Lisa always had such a great smile and had such a great personality. Ryan and Kristyn I came to know you when you were just little things , because I babysat you when you lived in Reading on I think 11th or 12th street. I know this is a difficult time for you both but just try to remember the way her hugs felt, because just having lost my Mom at the beginning of this year sometimes it helps.

Rest in Heaven my sweet Angel, my womb mate. I felt your heart beating before I heard Mom’s. We did life together and what an awesome ride it was. I wasn’t done with the ride and cannot imagine my life without you in it. God had different plans for you. You fought such a courageous battle with such grace, dignity and positive attitude. You told me so many times the past 18 months “Linny I’m having a bad day but tomorrow is another day. Well Dee da boom your body overtook that will and determination you constantly had to keep battling and there are no more tomorrows for you here on this earth. Your body is whole now and you are no longer suffering. I know Jeff, Mom and Daniel and so many of our loved ones are rejoicing in your homecoming. Fly high Lisa....You are the Wind beneath my wings. Until we meet again, Nancy and I will always have a seat saved for you. I love and miss you so much

Her Life

The life of Lisa Ermler (Mom, Nana, Dee da boom)

November 2, 2020
Lisa Ann (Stief) Ermler, of Muhlenberg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 in the comfort of her residence surrounded by family.  She was the loving wife of the late Jeffrey W. Ermler with whom she shared 21 years of marriage at his time of passing on January 1, 2019.

Born in Reading, PA, on December 2, 1956, Lisa was the oldest daughter to Eugene (Yonk) and the late Ruth (Foreman) Stief. She was a 1974 graduate of Reading High School.

She was employed by the Muhlenberg School District for 29 years, before retiring in Spring 2020. She started as an elementary recess aide to be closer to her children after they both started school, and then joined the cafeteria staff. Lisa then transitioned to be an elementary library aide for many years, a job that she loved and fit her calling to help and care for children. In the final years of her employment she worked as an administrator for the food service department. Lisa was also an active member of the Temple Fire Company social club.

Lisa was a proud mother, devoted wife and loving Nana, whose life’s priority was spending time with her family and creating memories.  She loved celebrating and hosting birthdays, special gatherings and holidays, Christmas being her favorite.  She enjoyed hugs, family pictures, her dogs Meisha and Jax, candles, wearing pajamas, shopping at Boscov’s and spending time with close friends and family.  Lisa was happiest seeing those around her at their happiest.

During Lisa’s final years she fought cancer with courage, passion and resilience.  She never gave up.  It was evident that her drive for her fight was fueled by her love for her family.  She remained positive throughout, with a constant outlook that “Tomorrow will be a better day.”

Lisa is survived by her loving children, Ryan Fayewicz, husband of Shelley (Reppert), Exeter, Kristyn Fayewicz, partner of Paul Montgomery, Shillington and step-daughter Jennifer Ermler, Sinking Spring; and four grandchildren, Nolan Fayewicz, Codey Fayewicz, Murphy Montgomery and Whitney Fayewicz. Also surviving are her father, Eugene (Yonk) Stief, Lady Lake, FL; her siblings, Eugene (Beanie) Stief, Muhlenberg, Linda Haines (her twin), Duluth, GA, and Nancy Correll, Alsace; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Lisa’s children wish to thank all family and friends for their continued support throughout her final years and health challenges. They are especially grateful to Nancy Correll, Donna Keller and Patty Duncan, who provided constant love and companionship through her toughest obstacles over the past year. Also, thank you to the doctors and staff at the Penn State St. Joe’s Hospital for their continued care.

Her wishes were to be cremated, combined with Jeff’s ashes and scattered at a place that meant a lot to them.  A celebration of life event will be planned for the Spring of 2021. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Lisa’s life now by joining us and sharing memories at www.forevermissed.com/lisa-ann-ermler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lisa's name may be made to the Muhlenberg Elementary Center Library.  Checks can be made out to “Muhlenberg School District,” and include “Mrs. Ermler - Library Fund” on the note line.  Please send all donations to:

Educator, Co-worker and Scout supporter

November 8, 2020
I met Lisa in the mid-90s when my daughter started school and I became a school and PTO volunteer. In 2000 I started as a substitute teacher at MEC where I became Lisa’s co-worker.  I was excited to have those days to work in the library with her.  Even after my son moved onto the middle school, and I moved onto full time work in another district, I still had the opportunity to see Lisa as she was an avid supporter for the scouting program and helped my son to get to his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.   I am thankful to have had the pleasure to know this wonderful and generous lady.

Pictures

November 4, 2020
Lisa's house was always filled with pictures. She loved taking pictures and surrounding herself with photos that brought her so much happiness. When she moved earlier this year, several piles and boxes of pictures were discovered. Her phone is filled with touching pictures of times that clearly meant so much to her. I'd often text her pictures of moments that were sure to bring her joy. And several times, when visiting within a day or 2 of first sending her those photos, she already had those pictures printed, framed and perfectly displayed within her house. It always made me smile to know those pictures meant so much to her, that she made it her priority to print them almost immediately.

And while she was always excited about those photos, there is so much more to it than just the physical picture. Maybe she was in the photo, but often she was just so happy about what the photo contained. But the pictures were always of people she loved and special moments that were captured. She always derived so much joy from the happiness of others. Lisa lived for making memories. And she was great at it. She lived in the moment. She spread positivity and happiness. And she always had a reminder about what is important in life - "Making Memories!"

Isaac

November 4, 2020
On March 5th, 2019, I came to terms that it was time to let my cat Isaac go. He had been sick for a while, stopped eating, and could no longer walk. On the drive to the vet, I instinctually called Mom, because that is the first thing I would always do when I was upset - call Mom for comfort and guidance.

Mom was still 2 months fresh into the mourning of her husband at the time. She was at work. When I told her what I was doing, she put on her coat and told her boss that she had to go. “My daughter needs me.”

Mom met me at the vet, where we said goodbye to Isaac together. She held me while I cried. I kept apologizing to her - he was only a cat, not my husband. She told me “Honey, grief is grief. It doesn’t matter who it was. If you loved them, your hurt is valid.”

She was there in my time of need, like she always was. And this is probably the hardest thing I’ve been dealing with this week - not picking up the phone to call her and tell her I’m sad. That I need her to hug me. But I like to imagine that in the last 4 days when I find myself really losing my grip, that she’s sitting on the bed next to me, holding me, telling me it’s okay to cry and that I’m strong and will be okay
