Trauma and Tragedy

May 14, 2014

In September 2002, Lisa was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (commonly called rhabdo), and started chemotherapy and later radiation treatment.

At the completion of the radiation treatment, Lisa's prognosis was optimisitic, however in August 2003 we were told the devastating news the cancer was again very active, and she only had a few weeks to live.

During her whole time of treatment, Lisa showed everyone how strong and brave she was.  The hospital was so amazed at her ability to accept treatments they often used her as an example to new children patients.  Throughout her treatment, she had an upbeat attitude and enjoyed playing and arts/crafts with the staff and carers.

Lisa grew up in Mindarie, Western Australia.  At the age of 4, Lisa moved to Kinross, Western Australia.

She loved going to school and enjoyed many close friendships with her classmates.

A beautiful girl

Lisa was born on 13th May, 1996 at Glengarry Hospital, Duncraig, Western Australia.

Lisa was born 6 weeks premature, and despite the complications of a Caesarean birth, was a healthy girl, albeit very small at only about 2.45kgs weight.

I remember being in the surgery with Lisa and her mum, watching the surgeon's work their magic.  In only what seemed like a few minutes, this beautiful girl was crying and taking her first breaths in the new world.
