It’s with sadness that I learned about the passing of Loren. I think most people would attest that once you met Loren, your life would be changed forever! Loren was a man with a big heart, always trying to bring the best out in others. His humor and relaxed persona put you at ease and made you laugh too! Mike and I called him earlier this year to ask if he and Carol wanted to meet us at Byblos and even though that particular day didn’t work out, in our hearts remembering Loren is like having a happy feast every day! We are so fortunate that our paths crossed with Loren’s and he will be our mentor forever.

NO MATTER HOW OLD WE ARE WHEN WE PASS, IT IS ALWAYS TOO SOON. I will dearly miss this man. I count him as a friend, business partner, and confidant. He was a kind and gentle soul. He approached life with the intent of being of service to others. I hate Monday. Although, he had been sick for a long time, he usually took my calls. Like all great salesmen, he would perk up and listen to me complain. I could hear his voice change, we’d laugh. He always put up with my silliness for 13 years. I will truly miss him but learned valuable lessons on service to other. My wife’s face would light up when she told me that she had seen Loren at the store. He had the same effect on her as he did on me. My wife and I look forward to seeing him on the other side.

A portion of my column today today's column in The Herald Bulletin (Anderson, Indiana):
My cousin Loren Frendt spent several summers helping my dad on the farm during my childhood. Loren, who went to Anderson High School and lived here for many years, succumbed to heart problems October 26 at age 87 in Toledo, Ohio.
He was one of a kind, and you never knew what prank he'd come up with. His introduction to my then-fiancee consisted of him walking up and trying to put the make on her.
Loren starred in football at Anderson High School and then-Anderson College before entering the business world. His three oldest sons, Mark, Marty and Scott, also participated in sports at AHS, and Scott was the Indian mascot.
We were two of 18 cousins on the Miller side. Now 11 remain, of which I'm right in the middle agewise.
His youngest son Todd, trying to bring meaning to the context, found it in another scripture: “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” – Mark 8:35 (New Living Translation)

I’m not quite sure how I could possibly list all of the adventures gramps and I have been on or even the small moments we’ve shared. I do know however, no matter the problem or event, he’d be there to greet me with a smile and a funny saying. Gramps I cannot express how much you meant to me. For as long as I can remember you’ve talked to me about goal setting and doing the best I can in life. Well today I’ve set a new goal, do the best I can to be like you and bring joy to those around me. We love you gramps.

Oh and say hi to the big man upstairs for me

Loren came to visit me a couple of times while I was living in Indianapolis during the 90's and he was passing through for work. I always enjoyed seeing him. Such a kind man. I know he will be missed very much. Thinking and praying for all of you.

I may have not known Loren as well as most on here, but I waited on him at Byblos for the last 15 yrs! He was always so generous and funny! I was thinking about him during all the covid since he hadn't been in in awhile praying both him and his wife were doing okay! Thank you Carol for calling me at Byblos to give me the unfortunate news! I love you both, please come in and see me soon so I can give you hug! He always talked about his wonderful family. He was an awesome guy with a great sense of humor, Ill cheers with a lake erie cocktail in his honor! Hope your in a good place Loren! Oh and one quote I think you may be missing is "I'll see ya in the movies" he ways said that upon leaving!!

When I was just a boy, Loren spent summers on our farm helping my dad with the farm work. After Dad died and we moved to Anderson, Loren became something of a mentor to me. He was one of my Sunday school teachers when I was a youth. I remember the game during his Anderson College football days when he was carrying the ball for a big gain, a would-be tackler got in front of him and he lowered his head to bulldoze the guy (today that probably would draw a flag). He was an usher at my wedding. Years later during my time as a newspaperman he hired me to do a PR piece for a magazine on his company. Realizing how many years have passed is difficult, but I'm confident I'll see him again up there pulling some of his famous antics.

It is difficult to believe Loren is gone. However, he remains in my heart forever. My prayers are for Carol, Todd, Mark, Scott & Marty, that they find peace & comfort, knowing that some day we will all be together again. Loren has been in my life since the day I was born......growing up together like siblings. The stories are too numerous for me to state here on this site. They are wonderful, funny, & at times even a bit shocking. He was one of a kind....love him forever!

Loren Frendt was my life-long friend. Graduating classmates in 1951 at Anderson High School in Anderson, IN, we were best buddies then, and we became even closer over the passing years. Loren was a gentleman I greatly respected and a dear friend who was like a brother to me . . . someone I dearly loved! Over the years, we maintained close contact with each other.

For several years Loren and I attended the Jamie Farr Owens Corning LPGA Golf Classic in Toledo, OH. There, he introduced me to Jamie Farr, many of the attending celebrities and LPGA golfers. Thanks to Loren, I was privileged to do radio interviews with Jamie, many LPGA golfers, and attending celebrities. Loren was a very active member of the Compass Club and he did much to promote Toledo and the surrounding area. Through Loren, I became familiar with several popular sites in Toledo and met many people from the area.

These words are sent to express my thanks, my love, and my appreciation for Loren, Carol, and their entire family. May God comfort and bless them now and in the years to come.

I will deeply miss Loren! He was my classmate, my teammate, my buddy, and my dearest friend.

Grandpa,
Words will never be able to truly express how much you meant to me. I am beyond thankful that God blessed my life with a Grandpa like you. You have been there from day one until now, and although you will not physically be there for me, I’ve got your spirit with me forever. You took the time to come to a countless amount of life events while I was growing up and even made sure that you were at my wedding. You have loved me unconditionally and encouraged me to be confident in the person that I am.

But I am who I am because of you. You taught me to stick up for myself and to hold my ground on what I believe in. You taught me what it means to be driven and to reach for greatness. You taught me how to set goals, not just professionally, but also spiritually, emotionally, and personally. Because of you, I have accomplished so many goals that I have set in every aspect of my life. But even through the drive and the goals, you taught me about passion. Passion being the ability to truly love what you do and share that love with those around you. Without having that passion for what you do, are you really happy with what you do? Thank you for always pushing me to be passionately driven and filled with love.

You shared your love with everyone around you and made sure that everyone always knew that family came first. You have taught me to share God’s love and extend a hand, or hello, to anyone who needs it. You never thought twice about helping those around you even if it changed your life path a little bit. You never stopped bringing a smile to someone’s face everywhere we went. You taught me to enjoy all that life has to offer, and to keep a positive spirit throughout it all. Thank you for sharing your life with me. Thank you for always reminding me that the glass is always full (regardless of what’s in it) and to always keep the faith.

I will miss you every day, but I will continue to love you every day. Thank you for being my Grandpa, and now for being my very own Guardian Angel. Please watch over me and continue to guide me just like you always have.
I love you,
Taylor

A Celebration of Life

Loren W. Frendt, age 87, departed peacefully from this life on Monday, October 26, 2020, and did so with joyful anticipation of his eternal reward. He eagerly welcomed the day when he would meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face.  He was surrounded by his family who deeply loved him, whether they were able to be at his bedside or with him in spirit from afar.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edna Frendt and his sister Beverly.

Loren was born the 13th New Year’s baby in St. Paul, MN on January 1, 1933.  He lived in St. Paul with his parents during his formative years.  His parents were devoted Christians who made sure he had a foundation of faith.  One of his first Sunday School teachers was Charles Schulz, the creator of Peanuts (Charlie Brown).  Loren moved to Anderson, IN when he was 14 years old to live with his uncle and aunt, Helen and Robert Miller.  He went to work for his uncle who owned Roberts Floor Store and worked there until 1959.

Loren graduated from Anderson High School in 1951 where he lettered in football, wrestling and track.  Notably, Loren was known for initiating the first prayer before athletic events in high school.  He was an active member of A Club and Future Farmers of America.  After graduating from high school, Loren went on to study business at Anderson University where he played football for the Ravens until 1954.  While residing and working in Anderson, Loren was an active member of the Optimist Club and taught Sunday School (high school students) at Park Place Church of God with Joe and Dr. Cleda Anderson along with Dr. Hollis and Carol Pistole.

Loren’s professional career involved various areas in the sanitary supply industry.  In 1959 Loren started Duo Sanitary Supply Company, a janitorial supply distributor on Main Street in Anderson, IN.  In 1969 Loren started selling motivational programs for the Paul Meyer’s Success Motivation Institute (SMI) out of Waco, TX.  In 1973 he went to work for HB Fuller Company and moved to Dallas, TX as Vice President of Distribution.  He was involved with the distributors of HB Fuller products and converted many of them from paper distributors to chemical distributors.  He moved to Toledo, OH in 1973 to operate Matt King Supply Company, one of the acquisitions on which he had worked.  In 1976 Loren bought Hammons Products in Fort Wayne, IN and moved it to Toledo, OH.  Hammons Products was a private label custom manufacturer of skin care products that he and his son, Todd, ran together until the business was sold in 1995 to Steiner Company of Chicago.  Loren then became a consultant for business acquisitions, consulting well into his retirement years, under Loren Frendt & Associates Consulting.

During his retirement years, Loren did not know the meaning of slowing down.  He traveled to colleges and universities throughout the U.S. to recruit law students for The University of Toledo College of Law.  He was active in the Center for Family Business at The University of Toledo. He was a counselor for SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business.  He was an active member of The Compass Club of Northwest and branched off from there to form Boomers Resource Network/Great Lake Region.  He was an active participant in the group Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.  He was a principal in Sustainable Resources Institute.

Loren’s mission in life was serving others.  He always looked for the best in everyone he met.  He encouraged others to keep moving forward and to focus on finding the blessings around them. He enjoyed buying and giving books to others that related to their lives. Loren had a big heart, a loving heart and a good heart.  He was a positive and happy man always filled with wit and wisdom.

At Loren’s request he was cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Loren W. Frendt’s name may be given to Anderson University Athletics, 1100 East 5th Street, Anderson IN 46012-3495.

The family thanks the caring staffs at Franciscan Care Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio/Perrysburg.  To view a detailed copy of Loren’s obituary or send condolences go to www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.  The family also has this memorial website where we encourage condolences, fond memories and pictures that may be shared with the family and his many, many friends.

Uncle-Grandpa

November 4, 2020
I can't remember when I actually met Uncle-Grandpa. Honestly I'm sure it was before I was able to actually form memories...but what I will never be able to forget is the continuous way he would leave people smiling. I could walk in the door and have the worst day and he would always manage to make some joke that made even the most difficult days fun. You could always count on him for a laugh. I still don't quite think that it has hit me that the next time I walk through his door I won't automatically be greeted with an ever-famous Birdism. I am grateful for the continuous encouragement that this man exuded. Every time I left the house he would shout "you're a winner!!" before the door could shut. It was impossible to leave without a smile and a thumbs up :). He was always good at listening, good at laughing, and good at putting things in perspective. I think I will miss his smile most. May his memory be eternal.

Always with a smile.

I was a young man when I first met Loren, I’m guessing it was around’ ‘85.  Thankfully, Loren took pity on this young seller, since he had walked in those shoes himself.  It always amazed me how positive and upbeat Loren was every time we met.  He always had a smile to greet you with.

Ironically, Loren was the first person to squirt hand sanitizer in the palm of my hand.  He told me it would revolutionize cleaning and sanitizing. Boy, could I use him now!

Loren Frendt was a wonderful person to spend time with.  Boomers group was so lively.  Loren had a character which led him to take an interest in whoever was speaking and he always made that person feel like the subject was pertinent and important.  He had a cheerful personality and took his Christian faith seriously.  I cannot count how many times he would remind me that his pags were packed and he was ready to go when his Savior called.
God be with all you as you mourn his passing.
