Happy Memorial Day Grandpa. Thank you for your bravery, courage, and dedication to our country. I visited the Korean War Memorial here in Kansas City today. You won’t believe it; the street the memorial is located on is Lowell street. I keep your can opener on my keys just like you did. Miss you every single day. I love you.

Golden Gate Bridge

June 11, 2019

November 2018

Over Thanksgiving, Grandma and Grandpa came down to Springfield to celebrate Thanksgiving and an early Christmas with us. I was talking to Grandpa about my upcoming trip to California I was planning for my Christmas break. I had never been to California before and I told him how excited I was to go to San Fransisco and drive across the Golden Gate Bridge. Grandpa told me that not only had he been across the bridge but he had also been under it as well. He proceeded to explain that he came back from the Korean War on a troop ship that went under the Golden Gate Bridge en route to get back home.

The next month when I was driving over the Golden Gate Bridge, I looked down at the water and couldn't stop thinking about my Grandfather (at the time being younger than I am now) finally coming home under the bridge on a ship from the experiences his last year brought him. I can't even imagine the thoughts and feelings he felt when finally seeing the bridge that lead him back home after serving his country on the front lines at such a young age.

The Perfect Match

June 11, 2019

Posted for Marge Miller:

“How we met was, I had a friend whose boyfriend was the roommate of Lowell’s and I came over and didn’t know Lowell at all. He was in the apartment next door. I had to burn garbage and needed matches and asked Lowell if I could borrow some. He asked what for and said he would get me some.

The next weekend, I got back from visiting home and my girlfriend’s boyfriend, who was Lowell’s roommate, asked her if he knew who that girl was next door. She was slim and had brown hair and wore glasses. My best friend new it was me, Marge! There were nine girls living in the house. So LeAnne and her boyfriend arranged a blind date for us. We went to the movies, Swiss-Robertson Family. We were watching the movie and a big snake came out of the trees and I sat up in my seat and sprayed popcorn and pop that Lowell had bought me. He was a perfect gentleman about the situation and asked me for another date. The rest is history.”  -Marge Miller 1960

The Can Opener

May 19, 2019
This past Thanksgiving, Grandma and Grandpa came down to Springfield, Missouri to celebrate the holiday with us. During their visit, Grandpa began to tell me about the can opener he had since the Korean War. I told him I wanted to see it next time I came to their house in Nebraska, but he laughed and said well what type of can opener do you think this is? He proceeded to pull out his keys and there was a little can opener attached to his keys. He asked me to get a can out of the pantry and proceeded to show me how this little portable can opener worked just as well as any modern day can opener. I couldn’t believe it! After all these years he had that little can opener on his key chain in case he ever needed it. My grandfather’s bravery and dedication to our country will never be forgotten. He is one of the most hard working individuals and a huge role model to me. I am so blessed to be his granddaughter. I love you so much!
