I know my precious Larry has already found Uncle Loy in Heaven. Larry loved Uncle Loy as much as I did. We were blessed to spend a good bit of time with him when we traveled. He will ever be forgotten.
You were a special man and we miss your phone calls and your wonderful stories. You always brought a smile when we heard your voice. Thank you Uncle Loy for being such a wonderful man. We love you.
I still have on phone a Merry Christmas message from Uncle Loy that I just cannot erase. Happy Birthday to a very special person (son, father, brother, and uncle).
What a special man; he came to hear me sing at the Embers in Monroe; as a kid I hid behind the oak tree in Statesboro and listened to him and Uncle Paul tell dirty jokes; his favorite restaurant, Barbara Jean's became mine; he was a great story teller; no matter where I was, periodically a phone call and that voice that reminded me so much of grandpa saying "Hello Everett"
I miss Uncle Loy very much. I miss his phone calls from SC, and cherish the times that we were able to visit, and go get ice cream, after he moved to TX. He had a gentle spirit, just like my mom and Grandmother, that I wish that I had.
Loy was the epitome of what this Nation was founded on---hard work, diligence, and dignity. I appreciate him calling my son,Tyson, his own grandson and for making me feel a part of a special family. We will do our best to insure that his legacy lives on. He is in the arms of his everlasting Lord now---We love you, Grandaddy and Loy
Dad, I promise that I will help keep the memory of you alive. You may have left us bodily, but your spirit will live on in your children! I know that you are now looking down from heaven and smiling upon all of us that knew you well and loved you. We miss you!
he was the Father I never had. Always ready to talk, to give advice or to tell a story. No one appreciated a good meal more, gave better hugs, or helped all of us out like Dad.I will miss his jokes that we heard 100 times, the stories of his childhood and the love he showed to all. Rest in Peace Dad, I love you!
Uncle Loy was a special person and a wonderful uncle. Even though I did not see him often, it was comforting to know he was around. I will miss his phone calls and the interesting stories about his life. He always wanted to know about every family member. Uncle Loy, I will forever miss you. Love, Harriet Shumate Mangum
To my dad, I did not realize how much I would miss you until now. Now that you are no longer with us, I can no longer ask you for advice when I am troubled. If there is a heaven, you ARE in heaven . You earned your place there....I can only hope to have been as good a father as you were to us. Thank you dad for all you have done for me, Linda, Dean and Bill. We love you! Your youngest son, Jim
I have such wonderful memories of Uncle Loy and Daddy! Uncle Loy was always warm, loving and caring. When Daddy passed away it was so comforting to know that Uncle Loy were still there. He called and checked on all of us. Love you Uncle Loy!
Dancing with you Grandaddy, to Eta James- "At Last" and Frank Sinatra on my wedding day was such a precious moment for me. I remember how we laughed, and cried, as we held one another on that dance floor. I will always look back and remember that day as the moment I shared with my three most special men in my life- my husband, my dad, and YOU Grandaddy!
Because of you Grandaddy.... I will often add: "Bless the cooks, the eaters, and the dishwashers!" to suppertime grace. You also used to say: "I'm gonna get your sugar little girl" and smother us with kisses and hugs. You prompted me to take up lifeguarding, to avoid smoking, to start my first Roth IRA, and eat figs! Beacause of YOU...my world was a little more wonderful! Miss you!
Rachel, I want to thank you for setting up this very thoughtful website for your grandad. It was so sweet of you. This way, many more friends and family will be able to share in the memories of his passing. God bless you. Love, your favorite uncle (haa haa) Jim
May the memories held deep within your hearts help to soothe your spirits at this difficult time. You are in my prayers. Thank you Rachel for this website. One of the pictures looks exactly like I remember Dean. Love, Diane(Plummer)Rea
Goodbye Uncle Loy. Thank you for the many stories about Grandma and Grandpa, Mother and my other aunts and uncles and their childhood - sharing a room at Michael's wedding, the trip to the Hagan reunion, The phone calls when I was in New York, the visits at Fripp Island, the fishing and for introducing me to Barbara Jean's restaurant and the fascinating stories about Billy Sol Estes.
Oh, how I will miss hearing Cousin Loy's voice and feeling his warm embrace. However, we were certainly fortunate to have experienced mutual events in our lives over many years. Just know the prayers and thoughts of Mildred Hagan Hendrix's family are with you at this sad time.
Most people who knew Granddad were familiar with his work ethic, selflessness, and generosity with his family.
Albert Einstein once said, “Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.” So let us celebrate Granddad’s life and continue his legacy.
