The last words I said to grandpa in 2015 was thanking him for teaching us all the value of faith, family and generosity. I want to thank grandma for teaching us the same. Grandma made all of our cherished, childhood memories on Valley Road possible...from the amazing holiday meals, to presents under the tree, to pool time and sodas on the deck. I look back at those memories with so much gratitude now. Grandma and grandpa built a strong, devoted family that we've all been blessed with for our lifetimes. I am so thankful for the legacy grandma has left behind. I'll never forget her smile, her home, her cooking, and her style. It's sad to let her go, but I know she's in heaven with grandpa now. Now we can now communicate with her through prayer, too. Her soul lives on. Miss you and love you grandma!

This is such terribly news, but Lucy had a rich 95 years ! I got to know her and Bill through their great support of their kids athletic endeavors at NCHS. She was a sweet and gentle soul who will be missed by her friends, and my heartfelt condolences to her children and their families.  2-5-0

Sending my condolences and prayers to all of my McCabe cousins and their families. I have special memories of visiting “Aunt Lu and Uncle Bill” with my parents as well as joining several McCabe relatives at their festive summertime parties around July 4th during the 80’s and 90’s! I was thrilled to return to their home on Valley Road with my own family for the McCabe-Reinert-Schwartz 2008 Family Reunion too. Your mother always greeted me with her big smile, twinkling blue eyes, warm hospitality, and kindness. These memories of her will live on in my heart forever.

To all my dear McCabe cousins, I want you to know how special my memories have been of all the many times through the years we gather together, especially the ones hosted at your home in New Canaan. Uncle Bill would come up with all the grand plans and Aunt Lu would make it happen! She was the “can do” person behind his “I’ve got an idea!” My fondest personal memory will be my visit in the summer of 1992 with my four children in my early single parent days. The big surprise, a stretch limo pulled into the driveway to drive us to NYC for a day of adventure my kids will never forget...nor I! No one did life like Bill and Lu McCabe, and I was blessed to call them my Aunt and Uncle. Heaven just got a little more adventurous now that the pair are at it again!

It's been so long since I've seen Lucille and yet my heart is deeply sad at her passing. I remember her as an amazing, strong family anchor who I looked up to. Looking through the pictures she did not change a bit, her bright, warm, welcoming smile stayed with her through the years. What a gift to all!

Rest peacefully with Bill in the arms of God Lucille.

A loyal, devoted wife... a dedicated, supportive mother... adoring grandmother... dear aunt... consummate hostess who always welcomed family & friends to her home with a big smile and warm hug....                "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter now into the joy of your Father" -- Matthew 25: 23.... Rest in peace Aunt Lu!

Today is a very sad day. Thinking of Grandma today and how blessed I was to have so many years of beautiful memories with her growing up. Grandma created such a wonderful home for her children and grandchildren... hosting us every single holiday at 853 in New Canaan! A few days ago on her 95th birthday (Jan 7th), a few of the family members were able to be on a Zoom call with her. Although she was in bed and not doing too well, she was wearing a fun birthday hat and seemed to be in good spirits! Now she will be reunited with Grandpa, and that is a comfort for me. Sending love to the family and praying for Grandma today.

Julie and I send our sympathies to Lu’s family. I always will have deep respect for Lu and Bill. She was a very attentive hostess, and really knew how to throw a gathering. The beautiful family that she has is testament to the amazing woman who she was.
