Love and memories last forever...
  • 10 years old
  • Born on June 19, 2007 .
  • Passed away on February 18, 2018 .

Luke Samuel Mercanti, 10 years old from Mullica Hill, NJ left us Sunday night. Luke’s love for everyone, infectious smile and deep belly laughter made seemingly normal days, joyful ones. He had a voracious appetite for knowledge. What he didn’t know- he learned. Whether it was politics, cultures, human anatomy, music, sports or a multitude of other hobbies, he delved deep to learn all there was about the subject at hand. Luke was beyond his age with his grasp of various subjects yet he maintained his childlike personality with his playful behavior. His selflessness, cheerfulness and larger than life smile will be the memory he leaves us with. Luke is the beloved son of Chris Mercanti and Donna Cipollone (DiNardo), stepson to Robert Cipollone, dear brother of Gabriella and Ava, and the precious grandson of John and Marianne Mercanti and Teresa and Fred DiNardo. He is also survived by his dog Cenza, aunts, uncles and cousins. Luke loved his sisters Gabriella and Ava. He was an avid Xbox player, loved the outdoors and achieved a karate black belt at age 9.  Luke played on baseball, basketball, hockey and lacrosse teams and last year received the Hawk award for academic achievement.

A viewing will be held Friday from 9-11 am followed by an 11:30 Mass at The Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit, 17 Earlington Ave. Mullica Hill, NJ 08062

To the Mercanti and Dinardo family-

We wanted to express our sincere condolence and deepest sympathy for your loss. Words are inadequate to express our sorrow that is felt by so many. Please know that our heart is with you. Luke’s smiles and spirit will always be remembered in our neighborhood forever. We wish courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your heart. May Luke fly amongst the angels up in heavens above.

To Luke’s family,
I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Luke. I saw his obituary and had to offer my love, prayers and heartfelt sympathy to you all. I have grandchildren about Luke’s age and this precious child’s passing touched my heart. Prayers to you all

Luke was light and laughter wherever he went. I was blessed to have been able to experience Luke’s strong, sweet spirit on a daily basis in class. May you be comforted to know how his beautiful personality touched all he came in contact with each day. He will surely continue be one of the brightest stars in my night sky.

Our family does not have words adequate enough to express the sorrow we feel for your loss. Luke was a bright, fun and loving person with an inviting personality. I was blessed and lucky to have taught him in PREP, where he enjoyed playing pencil tricks in his spare time. My daughter has known Luke since second grade and was fortunate to have been in his class again this year. We plan to keep his spirit alive with the memories we hold in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during this most difficult time and in the future.

Luke added sunshine to our street the day you moved into the neighborhood. Our son, Cesare, made a new friend that became a great friend to him. He loved being with Luke on the bus, riding bikes with him, playing at the fort with him, voxering him everyday, and practicing many sports on the front yard. Last week, Luke was so excited to teach my other son, Brady, how to play lacrosse. He couldn’t wait to show him all of his skills. Luke had a HUGE heart, always had a smile on his face, and was one of the most respectful, polite boys we’ve ever met. He will be so so greatly missed by all of us.
We are so sorry for your loss. May God give you strength and be with you always. It’s a wonderful thought to know that Luke is now sharing his sunshine with the Lord.
Our deepest condolences and with much love,
