Her Life

Fighting ALS

April 12, 2015

We all watched and wondered what might be the problem.  At first she seemed to have trouble with her potassium level.  So she tried medication and bananas. After a while  the cramping of her fingers.  We begin to notice her tremendous weigh lose.  Her weight went down to 67lbs.  Without saying we knew that something serious was going on.  She continued many doctors visits. Test after test but no results. She seem to eat but continued to lose weigh.  Shands couldn't take her, Major hospitals or clinics wouldn't take her without a diagnosis. She could bearly move about until her doctor hospitalized her for more testing.  She was then placed in ICU. After maybe a month in the hospital a neuro was called in.  He gave us the news ALS and placed her in hospice.

The journey of life with this disease and six months to live was hard.  In spite of what was going on her wonderful girls took on the task of caring for their mother. At first she could still walk and bath a little.  After a while she begin to walk and lose control of her legs.  Her girls continued to care for her by putting in what ever was needed including lifting her into her chair, into the car, bathing and making her smell delightful, and looking beautiful always.  More later I will stop now.

The Dollie Dears

I have much to share about my favorite girls..

Quanjeana was the first of the Dixon girls. She decided to come at eight month as a delightful surprise as they were moving into their first home.  Little did Von expect this bundle of joy to say hello as the furniture was being placed in the house. She was the cheerleader, daddy's girl and a spoiled rotten gal. They simply enjoyed their first born.

After awhile what Will thought would be a boy came a most delightful , happy, joyous make you smile always little one called Monika.  Unlike Gina Von did not sleep through this delivery.  She paid her dues to childbirth.Such a friendly kind little girl

Another sleepless delivery said hello to the world after a few more years  Such a serious, no nonsense little girl came to the world of two other Dixon sisters. Not a lot to say but caring and sharing. Am I speaking of Charmethia.? Yes

The girls were as neat as their home.  Always hair in place, bows, all the same color. Everyone wearing their own set of bows.  Never to mix them up.  Their sleepovers were such a joy as they started with a fashion show and ending with a wonderful movie.

Graduations, weddings, family reunions, trips, football  games. The girls now have their own families.  One of them is a grandmother too. They are now enjpying their children parties, games, etc

The greatest of all is how the girls took care of their mother and her many needs throughout her illness is my next story.

Her entry into Life

March 17, 2015

Von was born on August 14, to Alonzo and Mildred Carlton.  She was the largest of all the babies.  She nursed from birth to almost 3yrs old.  Mut  could never venture very far from  home because miss  Von always wanted some milk from her mother. One day when she wanted to be nursed she asked my grandmother to  assist her in crossing the street so she coud be nursed. I forgot to share that Von had many teeth at three years old, so she really tortured her mother. (Smile). That' the joy of knowing Von.
