Grandmother and greater grandmother too,
A legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
but in your heart you were always kind.
Inspirational and enthusiastic too,
It is admiration we have for you.
You showed resilience throughout your strife,
Always coming through, energetic and full of life.
Your generosity was always there,
Showing everybody that you care.
For all of us you gave your best,
A grandmother and a great grandmother which words cannot express.

From Cherisse Loo:
“So sorry to miss the event to celebrate her life since your mom was always like a real grandma to me and she took it upon herself to care for me from bringing me Trader Joe’s snacks in dental school to taking me to get my hair done, watching the titanic movie in the theater, exercise classes, discussing life, playing music together, going to get frozen yoghurt, etc.  I really admired how she gave amazing facts bible studies even in her 80s/90s and how she learnt the computer in her 60s. That was quite inspiring.
So I’m really sad she is gone. She was a wonderful lady and I will truly miss her!”

Lydia was a clever, ambitious lady.  She accomplished many things in her life – learning languages, Philippino, Cantonese, Malay, English and maybe more. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, school teacher, music teacher, nursing home owner/manager, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and world traveller.
She was energetic, interested in everybody and everything and lived life to the fullest into her advanced years.
It was a pleasure getting to know her at the wedding of Kelvin and Heather. She was full of life and love for her family.
Even though her life was filled with many challenges, good and not so good, living in various countries and cultures, she was able to meet the opportunities, embrace them and emerge with a winning attitude and a warm smile. She has been a good example to her family, students, and friends about how to cope with life.
Her book “A Child of the Enclave” is enlightening and a good memoir of her long life. This historical record of her extended family and many experiences serves as a memorial to her ingenuity, faith and perseverance.
May Lydia rest in peace knowing that she has touched many people in her 102 years.

Tribute to Lydia Young Williams
What a privilege for me to have known her since Hong Kong where I started to admire her. We had almost 60 years of friendship and kept in touch though sometimes many miles separated us. During these decades, I had said over a dozen times to her that
“I want to be like you when I grow up”.
Reading her book made me also decide to tell my story for my children, though by audio. They tell me they appreciate that.
  You are so missed.
  Blessed peace.
With love and gratitude, Lily Chang

Mrs. Young was my teacher, her geography lessons inspired my curiosity in planet earth, the world and the people. She alone inspired the love of travel in me, my life-long passion.
Mrs. Williams was my dear friend, the twinkle in her eyes and the beauty of her smiles always transmitted the sense that all is well! A grand lady she was. I will miss her sorely.

Aunty Lydia has Jesus close to her heart,  she lives by God s guiding light, knowing God has a plan for her every step of the way.  Her love and care for others radiates out in her calm presence. I  will run to her  with a big hug when we get to meet on that Glorious Day !  I have peace knowing she is resting in deep sleep , though i will miss her.  Love you always Aunty Lydia, your hygienist Danna Kim

It was my privilege to interact with Lydia Williams periodically over the decades. We connected through music in one way. Through another as my best friend's mother. My own mother died quite young and so it was special to watch Lydia live more than a quarter of a century longer. I found her sense of resiliency remarkable and encouraging--rolling with the COVID-19 pandemic and repeated pacemakers. After she had become a centenarian, I was profoundly touched by her willingness to sing in a trio with both Amabel and Eric -- using accompaniments I sent by iPhone. A unique woman, she will be missed until we connect once again in person.

Hi Amabel,

Your mom became a significant person in my life because she befriended my Pops during his stay at the Brookdale facility. One thing I was unable to do was speak with my father in either Visayan or Tagalog. (The only language I'm fluent in other than English is German.) I could tell that was something he was missing at that point in his life. Your mom helped fill that void. My father enjoyed visits with your mom and Mila at Brookdale. For that I am forever thankful for your mom (and Mila).

Your mom has lived a long, productive, and often adventurous life (from what I read in her book).
Wishing you, your family, and especially your mom, God's love and peace.

Grandma and her love taught me so much in life; lessons I will never forget. To share my top six:

1) Finish your liver and onions, then you can reward yourself by practicing the piano.
2) There is nothing that can't be returned at the mall, no matter how long you've had it.
3) Don't be mingy when serving guests. Always be generous with the good stuff.
4) There are no soloists in a Handbell Orchestra.
5) A pipe organ doesn't just go into a room, the room goes around it.
6) Above all else, trust in the Lord and have faith.

Thankyou Grandma!

"The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land,
The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains...
For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains."

Mom, you are forever loved and forever remembered with countless memories that continuously linger in my heart. I'll always be your "Wee One".

Mom, dearest, it’s been such a journey for you these pandemic days: you were born during the Spanish pandemic, and then in 2020 you were a pandemic Great-Grandmother as well! Always a special mother, friend, and matriarch of our family. I miss you so much!  You will always be close to my ♥️ It’s been one month since you left us, and I miss you so much! You were so brave as you waited patiently till everyone you loved came and kissed you their farewells. You waited until the last one, Cherisse, whom you were so concerned about the last few months of your life. But you ‘rested’ on the Sabbath, and gave me the opportunity to attend church after being kept away by COVID all the while you were with us. We had some good days and times together this past year, and I’ll never forget them. The funeral services went well, Mom, and those who loved you made an extra effort to attend your Celebration of Life. The music in the program were especially chosen from your list of favorites. Sleep in peace, mother dearest! I sure miss you and will always love you, keeping you close to my heart. What a great example you showed me, the strength, the courage, and the faith you held onto no matter what came your way. You leave such a memorable legacy for your children, grand children, and great grandchildren, Lydia Emilia Bustamente Cruz Young-Williams. I love you! Until we meet again…..

I have always admired Auntie Lydia. Her poise, talents and eloquence are her qualities that I have always held in high esteem. I looked forward to spending time with her and she always amused me with her witty remarks and candid comments. We had a lot of laughs together. I will always be grateful to the closeness she had with my mother. They were staunch supporters and strengths of each other. Rest In Peace, Auntie. You will always be in my memory and in my heart.
