Lyman Leroy Marler, 72, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at The Oaks Care Center in Kingsville, Louisiana . He was born on July 30, 1940 in Tioga, Louisiana   to  W.L.Marler and  Augustine Ball Marler.

Leroy grew up in Tioga. He graduated from Tioga High School   in 1958. After high school  he  began work for The Town Talk  as a typesetter and started his family with Mariguriette E. Webster. Through the years, he worked in numerous positions including:  State manager and eventual brand manager for Seagram & Sons.  Upon Leaving Seagrams, he opened a carpet cleaning business and later a mail service business in Alexandria with his brother, Corbett Marler.  His most proud accomplishment, other than his children, was returning to college and earning a degree in  Radiological Technology. 

 Among his many talents were several years of publishing “The South Mouth” webletter to online readers and writing a novel, “Descendants of Love.” Leroy was a cajun stand-up comic and drew laughs from corporate dignitaries to friends and family.  When he was around, there was always a laugh.  His knowledge of history, especially his family’s genealogy, was extensive and freely shared.  Leroy’s love of LSU football was second only to the love for his children. 

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers:  Kimble Marler, Lawrence Marler, James Richard  Marler,  1 sister: Elva Marler, and daughter-in-law, Kimberley Barrett Marler.

He is survived by his sons Michael Leroy Marler and Kevin Dwayne Marler of Atlanta, Georgia, Austin Brian Marler (Faith) of Pearland, Texas, Brandon Kerry Marler (Allison) of Voluntown, Connecticut, and daughter, Chawn Marler Texada of Alexandria, Louisiana,  brothers Corbett Marler  and Poko  Marler. He is also;  survived by 10 grandchildren:  Jescica Texada, Courtney, Texada, Taylor Texada, Kaitlin Marler, Daisy Marler, David Marler, Kayleigh Marler, Keefer Marler, Peyton Marler, and Payge Marler; 1 great grandson, Zak Hayes and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by special friend, Bonnie Rains and Escapee family of Livingston, Texas.

Leroy chose to donate his body to LSU-Shreveport Medical School.  A celebration of his life will be held on his next birthday.
