Mrs. Romans was born Saturday, June 21, 1924, in Delavan Illinois, the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Brown Carpenter. She lived a full life as the wife of a career Army soldier for 23 years and also worked civil service jobs at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Gilliam, Georgia. After retirement from the Army the Romans moved to Atlanta Christian College for 8 years and then to Lake Aurora Christian Camp. Mae and Charles traveled thousands of miles all over central Florida to churches with a child’s train ride that her husband had made to promote Lake Aurora Christian Camp. Charles was the engineer and Mae was the ambassador of kindness to thousands of kids riding the train. After 23 years at Lake Aurora, health issues moved them in with their daughter Tonya Harris and family. Mrs. Romans spent the next 5 years caring for Charles until he died from Alzheimer’s disease in 2011.

Mrs. Romans is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Charles, two sons, Charles L. Romans, Jr. and retired LTC Jay Romans. She had 8 siblings and 7 preceded her in death, survived by her sister Iola Anderson.

Survivors include her daughter, Tonya Romans Harris and her husband Buddy Harris of Valley, Alabama; her daughters-in-law, Diane Romans of Bryson City, North Carolina and Nancy Romans Snyder of Senoia, Georgia; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
